Have had a editing misshap. The video was cut short.

Thread sealer is still a good idea on those 304 head bolts as I’ve seen a few leak even though they are supposed to be blind holes. Good luck.

Looks prime mate. Wont be a major powerhouse, but will be a small step up from the old eco-tec. Will be running far more smiles per gallon, that's for sure.
@Joedennett69 Жыл бұрын
It sure will be worth it. The old eco was leaking somthing horrible and seemed tired. 5L conversion seemed to be the way forward.

Enjoying the build mate! Motor looks great. Fyi I believe Holden utilized those smaller specific Allen key bolts to allow room for the factory exhaust manifold

Brilliant job mate Many years ago, I did a motor, and I packed theoil pump with Vaseline long story short. It made a mess because it sent a slug of Vaseline straight to the oil filter, blocked the oil filter and blew it off the side of the motor…….. But every other time it’s been okay
@Joedennett69 Жыл бұрын
worked a treat for me this time. After a couple seconds of running it had oil pressure.

@Joedennett69 hey mate, any chance you have a greggory manual with torque spec sheet for the vs, currently putting one back together and have found conflicting specs online. Cheers Keep up the good work

Its looks so sick all cleaned up and painted black well done good sir 😎🍻 is it easy to remove the engine from the car and can you do it by yourself or you need a few mates to help out ?

Would dumping oil in the pressure switch hole on the oil pump not be a option so the gear drive is coverd with oil so u can avoid the vasiline priming process?

Good video mate, just wanted to to know, how did you time the motor to be at TDC compression
@Joedennett69 Жыл бұрын
By using the marker off the front of the timing cover and using the rockers visually (after the intake valve closes) to determine when its on compression.

Hey mate awesome job are you sure the number 1 mark you had om tbe dizzy was right? I thought number one was facing just right of center facing the firewall or back of the motor if ya looking from the front

currently rebuilding a 5l as well and i believe youre right i came straight to the comments when i seen his dizzy position to make sure im not the only one
@thegolfhack941711 ай бұрын
@@alextrainor13 yeah i recently replaced my dizzy and mine was facing about 1 o'clock from the front at tdc

Nope sorry My advice would be to take the higher spec Oil the threads Then reduce that higher spec by 30% And tighten to that But the threads have to be tapped out and cleaned, and the bolt needs to be oiled Standard engineering principle is with clean oiled threads theres a 30% drop on the spec ……. Otherwise leads to overtightening

U dont regret it u have not put in flat top pistons so u have a better basis for more power as these dome pistons make the compression ratio horrible...
@Joedennett69 Жыл бұрын
Was not building it for horsepower. I just wanted the sound. No regrets. I think you mean dished pistons.
