I've done several of these, problems with them can be attributed to installation error in the following areas ground and power should be attached to the battery as stated in the instructions ( battery works as a filter ) not just connect to 12v and a ground somewhere . Next issue vacuum leak especially at sniper to intake seal. And finally upstream exhaust leaks header gaskets, flange gaskets . I've probably put 10k on one of mine in the last couple of years . You have only driven it 10K miles in a few years? Not much of a test.

They should come better protected than that. All oem stuff is protected against electrical noise and surges better than these.
