The biggest celebrity endorsements! The snappiest jingles! The most aggressive advertising companies working for us! We're dominating on television, on radio and the internet! I want answers, now!" Hollywood is in, as Gary from Nerdrotic calls it, a doom loop where the situation has gotten so much out of anyone’s control that collapse is inevitable. To put it in simple terms, it’s like a ship that’s sailing the North Atlantic during wintertime. The smartest people see that the captain is steering them towards a massive iceberg, one that can’t be broken by the bow of the ship, and decide to take a life raft to save themselves. Those who remain balk at the idea and say that the captain has never steered them wrong before so why should this time be any different. Some time passes and the waters are beginning to be filled with smaller icebergs that the ship can handle, but they’re steadily getting bigger as the ship approaches the unbreakable one. The smartest of those who remain now see that the first group to leave was right and they bail o it as well. Those who remain sing the same song as before and nothing changes. Some more time passes and the ship starts getting hit by larger icebergs. Some of these cut gashes in the hull, but the ship remains afloat. The smartest of those who remain see the writing in the wall and bail. The same song and dance is had of those who remain. A short period of time passes and now the ship has hit the iceberg. It’s now apparent to most onboard that this ship is going to sink and they scramble for the life boats. Remarkably, the captain along with a decent amount of people choose to remain on the ship, not because of some sense of honor or duty, but because they just can’t believe that their ship is sinking. They didn’t believe that it was even possible and cognitive dissonance prevents them from seeing that the unfolding crisis will have fatal consequences if they fail to act. The ship goes down with those who remain aboard while everyone else is cast adrift. Those who left in the first and second waves managed to get picked up by rescue vessels while only half of those who left when the ship sank do so since their lifeboats were crushed by the ice. Hollywood, and many aspects of the west in general, are at the sinking of the boat stage now. People tried to warn them of the impending disaster, but most refused to listen. Now we’re here at the crisis and many people still refuse to believe that it’s happening.

They have no choice as ESG has them bookended and the top 3 companies in finance own 80% of American business. It's the old "gotta nice company there, it'd be a shame if something happened to it". ESG has them on the backend with threatening to sell their shares which is 10% or more causing their stock to evaporate and no one will be "allowed to invest in them" (using the same tactic on investors) and on the frontend by forbidding any agent to buy into the company causing them to collapse in a day. So the choice is "lose it all or lose half or more". There should be an antitrust suit filed for StateStreet, Vanguard and most of all Blackrock. It's a mob like RICO.

@@bobothecryptohobo8513They did, and still do, have a choice, but they refuse to make the hard decisions because they are also onboard with “the message.” These industries had the cash flow to be able to self finance for some period of time but they, like most other industries, fail to plan for worst case scenarios. They refused to stockpile some dry powder like Amazon and Apple for a rainy day so when that rainy day came they just continued doing what they were doing and that was deficit spending (sound familiar). If they really wanted to avoid preaching “the message,” they could have gone after financing from smaller banks or they could have gone overseas. They could have scaled back on the high spending, refused to participate in the streaming wars (all but Netflix have lost money during that time since Netflix had first mover advantage), cut a lot of the middle management bloat, had scripts that weren’t changed mid production, etc. Again, rhetoric problem is that they refused to change because they were so onboard with the message and so separated from the immediate consequences that they had a decade’s worth of material shot through the production line. That material is still being squeezed out now and will continue to be for at least the next 4 years assuming that the executives changed today (spoiler alert: they won’t). The only solution to this problem is an Elon Musk styled takeover of the whole industry with massive purges on all levels of the corporation. Nothing short of that will save hollywood

If they can't figure out the elephant in the room then I don't have much hope for the future of this industry. If we lose our job we are switching industries. We have almost 20 years each in this industry, our studio has laid off at least half it's employees for the past 6 months and our studio is one of the lucky ones. Another important thing that desperately needs to happen is that the film making industry needs to decentralize. The reason why woke has polluted every single one of the major studios is because they are all in the same echo chamber that is Hollywood. This has made them disconnected from the average customer’s wants and needs to the point where foreign competitors actually have a chance in the U.S. Decentralization will also allow for many smaller studios to try new ideas, something which an industry full of sequels and remakes is in desperate need of.

Audiences also have a responsibility to support lower budget/smaller scale films as well if they want more diversity in the film projects that are made. Indie filmmakers take huge risks in making content that differs too far from the mainstream, and unless audiences respond it is difficult to justify the risk. There are people that have managed it of course, but it is very difficult. Outlets like Film Threat are in a great position to shine light on indie filmmakers, and I know they do, but we need more awareness of streaming platforms dedicated to low budget/indie films as alternatives to the big streamers. If anyone knows any good ones, I’d like to know about them.

The other problem is that they greenlight all of these projects so far in advance that they are incapable of pivoting when market forces show that their projects aren’t viable. Top Gun and No Way Home were greenlit long before woke became terminal in Hollywood. Oppenheimer was a personal project from Christopher Nolan and Minus 1 is a foreign film. If, and that’s a big if, Hollywood learns from these films then, at best, it will take them four years before we get to see some non-woke films. Unfortunately for them, I don’t believe they have that long before the general public completely abandons them.

That won’t happen until at least one of the major studios collapses and even then it won’t be an open admission. It’ll more likely than not take the form of a gradual (or sudden) change in the films being greenlit and produced than an open admission of wrongdoing for one simple reason: they don’t want to be sued. Saying you did wrong opens you up to lawsuits that none of these companies have the stomach for, so don’t expect an apology from them.

I think it will take at least two to collapse before anything is done and Disney has to be one of the two. A depression indicates that there's a chance that Hollywood could have a resurgence, but I am questioning if that's possible thanks to the egomaniacs that are the ones responsible for nose diving the industry? A lot of the studios is even relying on Canada to save the cost of films, for animation both Canada and Asian countries. Not that I have a problem with outsourcing certain projects abroad; however, if we're not careful to keep some of the industry in the US, not just LA but Atlanta has some venues there for films, same with other states, we could face a similar issue that happened to our manufacturer forces. These idiots are killing both the industry and Hollywood, and they are in for an awakening as they have made themselves irrelevant.

I am a in rural small town so i am forty five minutes from the nearest theater on days with good weather, Bad weather it's an hour. So just the gas costs me $12 to get there. That is before i even buy a ticket and soda and snack. So by the time i buy those i am out $42 for one person. Why the hell should i spend that much money to go see something that is gonna disappoint me when i can watch it on a streamer in a month or two.

An "executive" used to be defined as essential management personnel. One of the most important reasons why there is big unemployment amongst entertainemnt's putative "executive" class, is because of the overuse of fancy titles that attempted to re-define many mid-level non-essential managers as "executives."

My wife is a marketing executive in SoCal and was canned right before Christmas. She spends her time every day sending out resumes and networking. It's true....companies are not even acknowledging her submissions. We expect she'll be out of work for a while. Good thing we're savers and have a reserve to fall back on. The last time she was RIF'd was when DT was President (she's a lefty and hates him) and she got a VP job within two weeks while still was on severance. She better hope DT wins again....companies won't open up and spend on talent with Sleepy Joe in office.

Serious question. What do these people actually do? What skills or talent do these c suite executives bring to a project that makes them so valuable? I don’t recall any of these types of positions, or at least this many of them in the entertainment industry 30 years ago. What changed that it’s so imperative that these jobs need to even exist? Perhaps this is natural selection taking its course, weeding out the unnecessary and wasteful money being spent on these “jobs” in the first place? This reminds of the scene in The Player when Vincent D’Onofrio asks Tim Robbins what can he do when he’s out of a job, where at least he can write.

And this is happening in every sector of the entertainment industry. Videogames also have a similar problem with CEOs with obscene salaries to do what? Plan scummy ways to grab money from gamers, but at what cost? AAA is colapsing. They are not needed. The same is true with the comic industry. Because Marvel and DC belong now to big corporations and paid huge amounts of money, and their CEOs want their big dat check, they are going to milk them until bleeds with nothing but crap.

Not canceled. The audience can forgive hiccups like saying TWAM, or DEI principles were maybe forced agressively. Iger has shown he'll say whatever is popular in the moment as long as it keeps him getting money and seeming relevant. There's no way he doesn't see the tides turning. I believe it's that the company will lose huge sums of money from the ESG-enforcing investment firms, which would tank stocks for everyone, as Alan said in the vid, but most importantly, the greedy execs running the show. If it weren't a matter of money from Blackrock/Vanguard, I am convinced they'd have shown changes in their storytelling.

The history of "woke" for over 100 years shows that things can become much, much worse before they become better. Look at Russia from the early 1900s until well through the 1990s, East Germany until the 1990s, China since Mao & still today, Cuba since the 1950s, Venezuela since the 1990s, South Africa or Mexico, etc, for decades. As for Germany's infamous leader of the 1930s, he was a socialist into veganism & animal rights---his version of DEI/ESG.

The upside though is that the U.S. adopted a decentralized form of government, so at least half of the country will be spared from the worst of it. States like New York, Illinois, Washington, and California will unquestionably dive into the depths of despair before they finally reform while states like Florida, Texas, and Tennessee will happily eat their lunch. This is almost exactly what happened in the Roman republic/empire. As one region became decadent another region took the reins of power. Control shifted from Italy to Spain, to Illyria, and finally to the East before the western half fell.

They have only themselves to blame. The crazy thing that gets to me is that they just don’t get it. They keep making movies and tv shows that have “The Message” in them and audiences are not responding. They refuse to tune in or spend money at the box office. Inflation is nuts right now so if a movie premieres, it better be good or entertaining enough for the public to pay their hard earned money to go to the movie theaters. Spider-Man No Way Home and Top Gun Maverick were hits because they both were pure popcorn entertainment. They both made over a billion at the box office each because the audience responded with their wallets.

In the early '60s, the studio system essentially collapsed under the weight of its own vanity and excess. The phoenix that rose out of the ashes of that collapse was New Hollywood. Most of the legacy studios were still around, but just barely. They were bailed out by a new generation of counterculture filmmakers who took the medium seriously and were more inspired by international cinema than the big-budget tripe that the studio system was crapping out. The studios had no choice but to try to tap into the new counterculture, which, at the time, was a new brand of rebellious liberalism that was extremely anti-authority and nonconformist. The films of New Hollywood had small budgets but were big on ideas and originality. We'll have to see if there's another phoenix on the rise, but if there is, and Hollywood is willing to invest in it, it's going to be a phoenix that comes out of the new counterculture, which is boldly anti-woke and even hotly conservative. And just like New Hollywood, there will have to be some fresh executive blood at the studios who are willing to roll the dice on the new mavericks. I live in Hollywood, and I can promise you that we're here. If you want us, we'll make you relevant again. If you don't, then we'll find our own way and be more than happy to watch you destroy yourselves. Your move, suits...

The goal is to divide the people of this nation--pit us one against the other--and it's working. Revenue loss doesn't bother them; that's not their game. Even during the writer's strike, when a top exec was reported to have said he wanted the writers to lose their homes, money wasn't the issue; it was control. "The narrative" is told by who's in control. And social engineering is the least of it. (Side note: a couple of years ago I'd have thought that notion was crazy. Now I view the scenario as a given. They've played the long game, and now we're at the demise, almost to the point of no return.)

Hollywood execs did a cost benefit analysis and realised that profit comes from the audience. They found the content output did NOT appeal to the existing audience. Two possible solutions. 1) admit they are wrong and change the content. 2) glory in being right, carry on and change the audience. Option 2 was picked as the studio execs can't be wrong...one slight problem. There is no replacement audience...bonuses all round for the execs.

Filmmakers also refuse to give up their colour grading addiction, which is the second biggest bane of the industry. These incorrigible idealogues are hellbent on running it into the ground.
