Stephen Kapos spent his his early life hiding from the Arrow Cross, the Hungarian Fascists who would round up Jews and shoot them into the Danube.
Separated from both his parents during the Siege of Budapest, Stephen was hidden in children's homes on false papers.
Stephen's story is horrific and needs to be told.

He was asked if he would speak on an online event to mark Holocaust Memorial Day and he accepted the invitation. A few days before the event, Labour sent him an email warning him that he would be expelled if he spoke as it was run by a proscribed group, Socialist Labour Network.
He has decided to resign from the Labour Party after 35 years membership as a result of its McCarthyite clampdown on free speech.
On 'Not the Andrew Marr Show', he spoke about his feelings towards Labour and read out his resignation letter.

The Labour Party under Starmer will expel any member for criticising the state of Israel. Just criticism of the state counts as antisemitism. No member is allowed to support Palestinian rights.

Mr Kapos deserves nothing but full support and praise. The Labour Party deserves little more than pure contempt. It offers nothing but a further widespread disillusionment, even IF elected, leading to a further rightwing British polity for years to come.

People will vote labour only because they think they are less bad than the tories, left wingers probably won't. Starmers offers nothing, his rule of sticking to fiscal policy and paying off the national debt means more austerity in reality. The tories are corrupt, they are also liars, so is Starmer but worse he's become in affect a dictator in his own party, that's something Sunak isn't even though he's as detestable to me

As soon as sir Keir starmer was elected leader of the Labour party I knew the writing was on the wall I never believe he would implement his 10 pledges he was Tony Blair reincarnated without the so called charisma I resigned my membership not long afterwards just as I had done when Tony Blair was elected and new labour came into being just with starmer new labour Mark 2 and this is where the party finds itself at the obscene situation of threatening to expel a Holocaust survivor for speaking on this tragedy that took place in history but they don't like where he is talking about his experience so 35 years is ended as a member someone like Steven will be remembered years after someone likes the Keir starmer is just a footnote in the Labour party history he is someone of true principle and honesty

The root of this whole thing lies in geopolitics (remember that Sir Starmer sits on the Trilateral Commission.) The deep state will not allow democracy to compromise the existence of a faithful Middle Eastern client state; from the perspective of realpolitiks the human rights of non-aligned, non-citizens hemmed in by a colonial asset are not even a consideration.

Corrupt Media is supplied its 'oxygen' by a cynically deployed State Ed. system - any of us can draw on our own experience to find evidence of this > who of us were taught about PFI, Corporate Taxation, MMT, the bloody reality of London imperialism etc etc .... Destroying the Critical Thinking capacity of a population, and therefore their ability for intellectual self defence - this must be the most important pillar of Establishment power. In a parallel universe, it's easy to envisage the usual suspects would go bankrupt in short order - the bbc, CNN, ch4 'news', ....... (notwithstanding State subsidies of course! - which tells us a great deal about how important these entities are to elites!) I always recommend people read Paulo Freire's 'Pedagogy of the Oppressed', such an important work!

@Pat M he's also been named as a friend of Israel by Israel, he accepted a donation from a Israeli lobbyist in the leadership contest, that alone should have been seen as a red flag. I'm not a Labour member, I don't vote for them as I am in Scotland, Starmer thinks hrs going to take snp seats in Scotland, he's wrong, he may gain from the tories but not the SNP. Professor John Curtis has already stated that the current issues with the SNP have not changed people's minds about voting for the SNP, he's usually right in his predictions

Solidarity with Stephen and my utmost respect for his principled stand. It seems the party leadership has abandoned any pretence of fairness or morality and this latest move, to threaten a holocaust survivor with a choice, effectively, of ‘stay silent or you’ll face punishment’ has obvious parallels and is grotesque and reprehensible. The Labour Party as an engine for social change has, one might say ironically, had a spanner thrown in its works. It’s crashing gears and burning oil. But at least the tool was created by a real working class engineer so … there’s that. 😫 🙏🏼❤️✌🏼⚖️

Tragically, this episode is only the latest set of intrigue and machination in Labour. Since it's creation, the Establishment recognised the threat posed by popular politics, and set about controlling/destroying it from within. There's been some interesting commentary on this lately. Starmer is an ignorant deeply offensive man. His brand of politics is cheap and tawdry with zero substance. That this courageous man can be subjected to this type of treatment is frankly outrageous and downright wrong. The Labour Party unless they get their principles back are finished. I feel it will only become apparent to many when they see clearly what Starmer,s Labour Party stands for. Only then with clarity can England begin to heal. At that point I think the breakdown of the U.K. is inevitable. Scotland and Wales will leave, Ireland will unite.

Thank you, Stephen. I, along with many other people have done as you have. I no longer recognise this iteration of the Labour Party as having any relationship to the one that I was a member of. The ongoing alignment of the party that grew out of the labour movement itself with corporate interests and increasingly right wing sentiment is anathema to any committed socialist. For a very brief moment we had a vision of a new beginning for our society which was so comprehensively crushed by vested interests and the rising tide of what can only be described as fascism that I fear for the future of all right minded citizens. Walk in peace and power my friend.

I found Stephen Kapos' resignation letter here very sobering. I could listen to him talk for hours, very moving speaker. I have no doubt his speech to the gathering on Holocaust Memorial Day was well received and digested. What a terrible shame on the honchos of Kier Starmer's Labour, that they should cause such an eloquent and valuable individual to resign his membership. The party is now all the poorer

I don' t know that Holocaust survivors do support Israel's oppression of the Palestinians. Israel doesn't even care that much about Holocaust survivors. I remember reading newspaper articles in Israel and in the Telegrah about the tens of thousands of Holocaust survivors who live in poverty in Israel. The survivors are of no real use to Israel, they only want victims to help perpetuate the victim narrative they project to the World to justify continued violence against Arabs and any others who try to stand up to them.

Hmmmm.... if he condemns Israel, people will leave. If he defends Israel, people will leave. If he says nothing, people will leave. If anyone leaves, the Mail and Express make a huge song and dance about it... regardless of what is happening in the UK... regardless of the deaths caused by an underfunded NHS, regardless of how many children go missing under the Home Offices watch, no matter what scandal the Conservative ministers are embroiled in. Indeed, anytime Labour gets close to popular, someone pulls this nonsense.

This is not nonsense. Huge lies have been told. Democracy has been trashed. Trust is in jeopardy. No difference between the parties. We need fundemental change. The Labour party is a democratic socialist party. Every membership card says so. What is needed is the same plan as the Labour government in 1945. It is affordable and doable. In 2019 over 130 economists backed the plan. The money can be found. After WW2 the national debt was 240%. We survived. The economy grew quickly and the debt fell. There was full employment. Young folk like me and my siblings bought our own house. House prices were 2.5 times the average wage. Interest rates were low as was inflation.

Dodds & Kinnock are serving under Kier Starmer who made & broke pledges to get elected leader... did a complete U turn from "not a Zionist" (or was he lying?) to promising to "rip out anti Zionist antisemitism" in a matter of weeks... then subsequently claiming he had: Honesty, Integrity and Patriotism!!!... (Zionist) Labours lies, deceit and Hypocrisy is quite something to behold... I don't know how they keep a straight face, and stop themselves from sniggering, when they criticise others over lack of "integrity"...

Massive respect for your stance on this issue Stephen. However, let's be frank here and accept that the Labour Party's attitude towards you should not cause you any loss of sleep, because this is no longer the organisation that you joined and served so admirably. It will be interesting to see how many others have left, or been expelled, from this Tory Lite party for daring to stand up for basic socialist principles.

However, the last comment I put on here had no swear words, but was rather derogatory to certain members of the cabinet, i.e; Jonathan Gullis, Grant Shapps and the Home Secretary. Extremely interesting -- I saw Stephen's contribution at the recent SLN public zoom event which was both highly moving and informative (and I was delighted to note the music books on the shelf, to digress, I've been a Bartok fan since I was a kid). I don't think I can this time vote for Labour in the next GE, which is also a problem since often in the recent past I've voted Labour not so much FOR its manifesto but simply to keep the Tories out (and most of my life I DID vote Labour, and was even a member of the party). Starmer and his associates are no longer true even to the spirit of any kind of socialism or social democracy. There's nothing left about Labour now and indeed I'd say there's nothing left of Starmer either, in any meaning you'd like to take from that depiction. Thanks for posting that fascinating interview.

I was so angry with his group you forget there are actually proper and normal people caught up in this whatever you wish to label it! to all like him, please accept my apology if I have said anything that offended the types like him as HE is NEVER the problem!
