It cannot be understated how influential the SF2 anime movie was to the franchise as a whole moving forward. Street Fighter Zero/Alpha (1 to 3) made several references to it, and even today Capcom still likes to do the occasional homage to it.

Back I was a kid, watching this for the first time, I cracked up like Suba did when I saw Bison driving a Capcom truck toward Ryu. A terrifying final boss decided to honk and drive a truck as his entrance just straight peak 90s anime moment. Sadly, Chun Li's scene was cut out, so I didn't know bout how they animate that scene with one hand as a kid.

"Dhalsim is so young!". He always looked like mid 40s to mid 50s to me. Even during SNES times. 😅

Watching people who only know SF6 consume early media of the franchise is fascinating.

LOL I love her insight. Having grown up with SF2, it's SF6 that's so wild to me. It's a great change - it's about time the characters aged and the world progressed. I really appreciate their direction with it, but SF2 will always be the most iconic SF for me.

The ending really hit her like a truck, I remember watching this when I was a kid and I also laugh so hard at it, because it looks so dumb and random. He could be in a plane or a tank or something different, but nope, he is just driving a truck towards Ryu like this is the ultimate villain plan of all existence.

I think in an interview with one of the SF devs they mentioned "i think we accomplished what we can with animation in a fg" then this movie came out. Because it was so impressive he went back to the drawing board, its how we got the Alpha/Zero games and you can see the movie's influence everywhere.

Every time I see that shot of Ryu jumping up to kick Bison through the truck window, my brain automatically inserts "AAAAAAAARE YOOOOOUUUU REEEEAAAAADYYYYYY?!"

The shower scene is literally the only part of that movie I had seen before. lol I love seeing how into the movie Subaru is, and it's so funny seeing her reactions to learning the story of the game. It makes me really wish they did a movie like this for all the games.

man i love that movie so much, it’s basically just a animated 80’s action movie. my favorite scene has always been the fight between Chun-Li and Vega, it’s just so brutal and actually a bit scary and yes i definitely went out of my way to buy the uncut version of the movie 😮 some of the other Street Fighter animated movies were ok but none ever topped this absolute classic, which really did flesh out the characters personalities well and i think honestly inspired the games that came after it. heck one of the Street Fighter Alpha games basically recreated the opening scene as one of the best stage backgrounds they’ve ever done! Subaru is right that if you are at all interested in Street Fighter lore you should definitely check out this movie! heck even if you’re not as long as you enjoy classic anime with a lot of fighting in it you can’t go wrong!!

As a kid I watched this movie and was in love with it. The version I had censored the shower scene, but seeing Chun's silhouette was definitely a moment 'girls? 👀' for me. The janky tekken anime movie was also formative, because it was the first tike I'd seen so much random blood animated. The amount of times people just spit up blood after a punch is hilarious in hindsight.

Fun Fact: Ryu is actually loaded and carries around a bank card that works internationally. Ken helped setting that up, making sure he can actually move around effortlessly and had enough money for food and shelter. Ryu gets money from joining tournaments worldwide and part-time gigs like being a bodyguard or a bouncer.

I did a watchalong with Subaru which is the best experience I've ever had, even I've seen it for several times. (Amazing fact about the animated movie was the fight choreography which was done by none other than the Swiss Kickboxing GOAT Andy Hug who is a huge star in Japan K1.)

Yep, Capcom loved the movie so much, they incorporated alot of the story beats into the Alpha series. So cool seeing the perspective of someone that got into Street Fighter from SF6.

Definitely a must-see feature for fans of fighting games. Still easily one of the best film adaptations of the genre.

As a fan of SF since 2 in the early 90s I completely forgot how the newest fans would look at the older games and notice the characters changes, granted this didn't really become noticeable probably till V(but the changes weren't too extreme) the time skip from V to 6 has definitely been a positive move I feel .

For those who don't know, the 3 villainous characters got their names changed around from Japanese over to english. Vega, the dictator, became Master Bison(that's what the M stands for), Balrog the spainiard ninja became Vega, and the boxer Mike Bison became Balrog. As for the Gouki/Akuma thing, the "Early canon" for the US, Akuma was said to have been possessed by a demon. (Though this isn't in effect anymore.)

If you listen closely, you can hear Subaru calling Bison by his Japanese name Vega. The boxer Balrog was originally called Bison as a play on Mike Tyson, but fearing a lawsuit from Tyson, Capcom changed some names around when localizing for the US. The head bad guy Vega became Bison, the boxer Bison became Balrog, and the claw guy Balrog became Vega.

I watched this movie back in the 90s, when i bought the DVD the uncut and uncensored version i got surprise to see chung li naked in the shower 😄, i wasn't expecting to see any nudity in this movie and i am glad i bought the movie 😄.
