This bizarre fact has been confirmed by the people who live in the Home Alone house in Winnetka, IL.

That's not the only time the Home Alone house shows up in Friends. The exterior of the house is also in the season 10 episode where Rachel's dad has a heart attack and Ross and Rachel go to his house, which is the same house she grew up in.

After reading this commented, I turned on HBO Max to check it out. A very very similar house...but not the same house.

Years ago I have seen a making of Home Alone. All interior shots of the house take place in a 1:1 set built in a high school gym. To make it look realistic, the set designers took images outside of the physical house. These images were printed in 30 foot canvases and placed outside the widows. These back drops were most likely saved since they are so expensive. Or friends used images to over lay them digitally.

I did not understand the stock footage part. Did filming actually happened in the winnekta home ?

Nope, it was definitely on a sound stage in Los Angeles.

As of the End of 2023 I’m pretty sure it has been confirmed that Home Alone & Friends is in a shared universe together
