JTR Captivator RS2 are the most impressive subwoofers I have experienced in my home theater to date. With dual 18's in each cabinet, powered by a 4000 watt amp and capable of solid output down to single digits, saying these are impressive is an understatement.

Okay I love that you gave our boy Scott a shout, he deserves it. He's put SOOOO much into his theater. I love that he's starting to get attention to a bigger audience. Also THANK YOUUUUUU!!! Sealed subs are amazing for that low end extension. Even JTRs ported subs hit those super low notes but there's a reason why all of my subs are sealed. 8Hz!!!

03:59 "My door is literally shaking" Welcome to my problems. I actually had to go through and run weather stripping along all of the doors, cabinets and refortify the STUDS in my basement. 15,000 watts, 6 15s and 3 18s, my house didn't stand a chance. This, though . . . . man oh man. Those JTRs make me want to build more!!! I'm too excited that you got this video up.

@Randommmmm204
@Randommmmm204 4 жыл бұрын
You think door rattling is a problem? I've got a single SVS PB-2000. Good sub, pretty powerful, but not the most powerful. However, I think because my room is only 14x14 ft, my doorframe cracked, and so has the outside of one of my walls which is made out of bricks. Along with some other fragile things. When your house starts coming apart from a single damn 12 inch, THAT is a problem.
@budgetaudiophile6048
@budgetaudiophile6048 4 жыл бұрын
@@Randommmmm204 Yeah small rooms can have issues like that. Which sucks but it's cool because you don't need much to build pressure in a small room. I can't imagine my theater being pressurized by a PB-2000 let alone it doing any damage. There just isn't enough cone area. It takes quite a bit and while my subs have done some drywall damage in my theater and have even dislodged some of the crown boards I haven't damaged any frame work.
@Randommmmm204
@Randommmmm204 4 жыл бұрын
@@budgetaudiophile6048 Ever since I've been into audio my dream setup has had 2 JTR 4000ULF's in it. But right now, a single PB-2000 is way more than enough. I need a bigger house. My neighbor though has these exact subs. JTR Captivators RS2 plus a pair of Monolith M215's because apparently 2 18s is not enough for him. It's absolutely insane. He lives half a mile away and sometimes I can feel and hear him while he watches movies or plays music. His setup is just pure insanity. Sometimes I feel the ground and the frequency goes lower and lower. He likes playing the edge of tomorrow intro. And I don't blame him. When I'm over at his house and we watch movies I feel like I'm a Bassnectar concert. I feel like I'm getting punched in my chest.

@@Randommmmm204 There's no such thing as "enough" when it comes to subs, haha! It's why my theater has taken on a life of its own, I've had to consciously tell myself to stop building otherwise I'd go even more overboard. That said, I bet two monolith 15s and an RS2 sounds phenomenal. Good stuff!

Your review and the Audioholics review of of minidsp is what led me to the decision that I am going to build 4 18" DIY sealed subs instead of getting 2 SVS PB 16s. I've always had a sweet spot for sealed subs just because I always notice and really dislike port noise. I love SVS and they definitely opened my eyes to the bass levels that I now crave, but as it stands right now I can't justify the price of getting 2 ported 16" subs from them when I can build 4 sealed 18" cabinets to use with Dayton Audio Ultimax subs and a serious Crown amp for cheaper.

I think JTR uses SpeakerPower as their amplifier OEM. The SP1-4000 (120V) and the SP1-6000 (240V) in the double 18s. I've emailed SpeakerPower asking if they'd custom build an SP1-2400 240V and if they'd be able to ship it "across the pond", explaining that it would more than double the power of my current 6 8s setup, which has to be powered by a single amplifier, from 850w RMS (at 6 ohms) of my UK BK Extreme 1000, to 1825w RMS, and nothing else would be able to do it in a fanless unit with built-in low pass filter.

It can only be seen with lights on and I never watch a movie with the lights on. Youthman Mike I've been watching some of your videos and I enjoy them very much. I've been looking to do up a small room in my basement and do some sound acoustics. Two of the walls are concrete and the other two walls or wood beams and compressed old fashioned wood design I guess you would call it. So I was going to do compressed wood on the side that divides to the neighbours put a little bit of sound insulation in. Probably go to Home Depot or something like that cuz I live just outside of Toronto Ontario Canada. Open for your suggestions Youth Man Mike thank you so much happy 2020,

@youthman have you tried or heard the Rythmik subwoofers. Apparently they have a patented servo driven woofers. Just want to know if it’s a real deal or snake oil. Where I live Rythmik doesn’t have a 45 day return policy. On a lot of forums they receive a lot of recommendations, but not a lot available on KZfaq. People on forums have rated the FVX12 better than Pb2000 classic and the fv15hp better than pb3000. Would appreciate a video if possible. Thanks

Michael A year ago you said SVS PB16 is giving you deep sub tactile bass. Myself and a few others said at the time how about trying PSA or JTR before committing to SVS? You responded with I'm sure there's better subs out there but the dual SVS PB-16 pressurize my room and give me tactile deep bass and are making me smile from ear to ear its more than enough bass for my theatre. I'm not one to say I told you so but hey.
@Youthman

Haha busted. 😂 The PB16 has much deeper bass than my previous Klipsch RSW-15’s. I’m still very satisfied with the PB16’s but was curious to hear what others were experiencing with JTR. I could sell my PB16’s and upgrade to the JTR RS2’s and right now I cannot conceive upgrading to anything else but who knows...in a year, I might be curious how 21” drivers sound. It never ends does it 🤣🤣🤣
@Cybertron-cs7sk

The build quality of JTR is incredible albeit a little subterranean in looks over the slick SVS but the sound is a tad better even over my personal fave PSA dual 18's. For future possible options there is a very good JTR 21". Also a company that escapes me make an amazing 24" driver that is truly unbelievable it goes to 1ohm and requires 2 decent large mono amps to drive it and unfortunately also requires a DIY build, but with the right build and right amp as a future goal when you're ready for the ultimate challenge try a pair of dual 24".

It's not that the PB 16 is crap. Far from it. It's that you can get a sub that's capable of more output, especially down low, for the same price or less. The Rythmik mentioned earlier is a perfect example. SVS makes good subs, but they're expensive for what you get. You're paying for marketing, free shipping both ways, an excellent warranty etc. Not all manufacturers offer that.

After hearing sealed 18’s, I’m really liking them over ported versions. Bass sounds tighter but still has ridiculous output due to the much larger surface area of the (4) 18’s as opposed to my dual 15’s.
@JTRspeakers
@JTRspeakers 4 жыл бұрын
Ported can give you more max output around the tuning frequency. However, ported can't do much below their tuning. If you have a sealed room you'll see about 12db per octave room gain and a sealed sub rolls off at 12db per octave so if the sub's roll off starts about where the room gain begins then you'll end up with a flat response down into the single digits. For a ported sub to dig that low it would have to be tuned that low.

Also keep in mind it's not just low-end output. It seems like SVS is basically strong from 20-30hz and then poops out not only below, but above that range. The JTR's are apparently MONSTERS above 30hz from what I've heard. (Youthman feel free to confirm or deny). And this is where you get the really audible bass that doesn't just shake your house, but impacts your chest. One thing I've always noticed about my SVS is my room will shake, but meanwhile I won't really feel much tactile impact in my body. Curious to hear Youthman's take on the SVS vs JTR in this regard.
