In this video, I show you a homeless encampment at the doorstep of Bill Gates and his Gates Foundation headquarters near the Space Needle in Seattle. I also show you homeless tents near the Broadview Thompson School in Greenwood in North Seattle.
I have been a resident of Seattle for over 15 years and have witnessed the city go through many changes, but this is the most dramatic change I have seen.

Nothing should be done for these people. The more you give them...it will only make it easier to stay that way. I lived with them for 12 years, and can honestly say that the majority will not want to change as long as they can keep using substances. I know many who were given housing and benefits, only to ruin that with drug use. A person must hit severe hardship at rock bottom to inspire them to change. Also the taxpayers in this nation are having a hard enough time getting by. They should not have to pay to support people who refuse to help themselves. Let them fall as far as possible, so there is nowhere to go but up.

As you have stated 100 million dollars a year is spent on the homeless, it's not a money problem, it a people problem, if someone wants to live in a tent, do drugs and steal no amount of money is going to change them. There are plenty of money and programs to help those who want or need help, the people in these tents it's a lifestyle choice.

Attacking the Gates foundation is ridiculous with respect to this matter. As a Seattle resident I know that throwing money at the situation will not fix it, and in fact the hundreds of millions spent in the past several years by local government and charity has contributed to the problem by not focusing on treatment and limits. The Gates Foundation does impactful work largely globally. They are free to choose their priorities and there are more than enough local resources to address the situation. The problem is lack of will and vision to intervene effectively, which would ruffle many feathers.

In 2017 when I worked with Operation Nightwatch we had approx 3000 unsheltered at night and today we have 13000+. It is not purely because of the economy, people moved here to use drugs and not get arrested. These are 98% drug addicts with unresolved traumas. They decriminalized all drugs and now the cops can’t arrest anyone for literally shooting up in public. Our idiotic city council wants to be Uber liberal but not create the foundations of rehab facilities, shelters, and counseling for it. It’s a real shame. Seattle used to be so beautiful, smart, and now it’s dead.

The greatest majority of the people who live in those tents don't want "help". I worked next to a large homeless encampment near the waterfront, and I'd offer to buy a hot lunch for a couple people every day. Most of them told me to just give them $20, one guy told me I was a walking garbage can, and the he was a man with 'good taste' and he doesn't eat junk food. The very few who accepted explained how the majority don't want anyone interfering with the way they live. My parents did something similar to an encampment under I-5, and only ONE man wanted help. My parents wound up giving him a round trip ticket home, when he returned he'd been signed up for his pension from the union he worked for years prior, reconnected with his sister and would be living with her permanently. Don't blame the Gates Foundation, go and do it yourself

Good points to make for sure. There's not really a solution because we've never seen it this bad. I mean the homeless encampments have been going on in Seattle for almost 10 years. It's everywhere around the city. What he shows in this video is just one or two of the maybe thousands of encampments all over town, there's some under the freeway in Sodo that are giant. They keep throwing our tax money at it and it gets worse. These people come from all the country and the world to get these homeless resources that they get. At that there's not a good solution, it's not just here but all over the west coast. It's goiing to start happening all over the country with the coming recession were already in. Things will get worse. I noticed you made this a few years ago now, and yes it's getting even more to the tipping point because of how many fires these places are setting off. If they would just enforce the no camping law already in place this could end. If they could tow all the RVs this would end. It's a mess, but a newer mess that doesn't have a good solution. I can't think of anything to do if I were them, can you? Also about 90% of these people are addicted to smoking fentynal, it's really a drug crisis
@kell5674
@kell5674 3 жыл бұрын
You don't say why you know "Nothing is being done about it". Have you asked to interview the Gates Foundation about it to see if they have any plans un the works for a solution? Have you interviewed city council and state municipalities to find out what programs they are already providing for the homeless? Please don't just assume that there isn't already plenty of services available to help the homeless, because there are. Interview the homeless and ask them why they're choosing to stay homeless. Lets get a better overall view of the situation, not just what you see and think at first glance.

An awful lot of those homeless who tell you that they served in the armed forces have in fact NOT served at all nor were they abused. It is a mere emotional tactic to separate you with your money so that they can go and buy whatever drug that they have an addiction to. The attrition rate for those that work with/for the homeless is incredibly high because so many realise that you simply cannot help the majority and efforts to do so are mostly in vain.

I was a vet , a degreed industrial electrician with thirty years of work history and no criminal record . I was never offered help or housing . While homeless I was stabbed and raped . NYC, Seattle, Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, San Jose, Honolulu and San Francisco are constantly on the news for their high rates of homelessness: what's the end game here? For one, there needs to be more oversight for funding allocated to addressing homelessness in the first place. A large chunk of these nonprofits that receive local/federal funding, are a HUGE part of the problem.: the people who want to get off the streets, can't. They give them just enough resources/information to check off a box, but not a real ladder to escape chronic homelessness/drug addiction.

Good job in reporting this bizarre phenomenon in one of the riches countries in the world. We have all the know-hows and all the resources to solve the homelessness and many other social problems. However, if you look at those older problems like drugs and illegal imbrications, rising health care costs etc, you can quickly deduce the prospect of resolving the homelessness problem.

His foundation works in many developing countries in which these individuals have no anything no schooling no housing not even a tent. I disagree his foundation led them to be in tents. A lot of factors play a role in this situation. Mainly the cost of living has risen for Seattle which hasn’t much to do with Bill. The cost of living in Seattle has significantly risen in the past decade due to gentrification, a statewide ban on rent control, lack of publicly owned affordable housing, and the economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. I’m sure those billions of dollars do not and are not issued out to these individuals for certain reasons. You have to submit application to his foundation if you wish to make a change and I’m sure it should need approval. A lot of homeless people are actually comfortable with that lifestyle in the US.

Bro I'm from the Philippines l think the authorities their in America does not really bothered by huge problem that your country is facing, the homelessness and drug adiction. This might be because many of your law makers, your government in particular are just busy interfering the affairs of other countries like our country Philippines specially now that election is approaching. It's so sad to witness, and hear from you the true color of America, the neglected people which is the true asset of every country. The Philippines has also a problem, but our government has clear solution to drugs and even homelessness, there are many ngo's and religious institution helping our government to provide homes. Bro keep up your good work, someday somehow authorities might be awaken. Keep safe.

If they are physically fit to work, well they've got to work in order for them to at least rent a decent home. If we want something, we really have to work hard for it and we should not ask hard for it.

i agree this problem is out of control, even with the new great leader bruce harrell. the rich move to bellevue where the police squelch this problem, and bill gates actual neighborhood madrona or whatever is a small area with its own well funded police department and giant walled houses with cameras everywhere, no homeless of course. look under the tall buildings here garages full of high end cars, the rich dont really walk the streets here. im curious if russia is any better? usa seems like...... something.

Melinda will be the one to help We would be good working with her I love this one ☝🏾 it’s amazing This encampment...I don’t understand why these grown people don’t pick up after themselves. In social work I can go in homes with a dirt floor and they sweep it and it’s clean 40% of homeless are reported to have been in foster care. I can tell you there are multiple programs to mitigate this situation from 18 till 26 with social services the problem is the perspective. There is something expected of the people bc you can’t get money and do nothing all day and that’s not good for your mental health you need a purpose it’s important. Young adults who were in foster care can get 715.00 a month get the education/trade paid for and even stay in a home where your rent is paid. Unfortunately individuals view this as a controlling component for example a laundry day is not ok it’s them trying to be controlled by someone ....we do need to have affordable housing and incentives they find necessary to get better but basic life skills and some pride are necessary to want it. I think outside Bill Gates place is perfect the foundation should do sponsored housing I think there’s a movie about this and it’s creepy but .....

The reasons why is because liberalism doesn’t work. It starts at home with leadership,parenting,family, church, rules and laws that are enforced. Yet you keep voting to tear that down. You say most of these people come from foster homes well who do you think their parent were? Druggies,criminals,drunks etc so those people have these kids that have to get out into foster care and put into this system. They never learn because they don’t have to. When are idiots like you going to realize there are consequences in life for not behaving or doing the right things in life like not being a thug or criminal or bum. These people have never had to work a day in their life been given hand outs housing and they don’t want to work or pay their part. Let’s face it why should they? They get free money free stimulus money and plenty of cheap drugs and nice weather to live outdoors it’s one big party. Most of these people are not from Seattle or even the state of Washington they are bused in from other states by other states who don’t want them. There is no accountability for their actions or no responsibility for their own lives they expect others to provide it for them. We are breeding generations of non productive non contributing of groups of people in society. Then we get idiots like you saying we need to give them social workers give me a break. Social workers are not going to fix anything. You think throwing more money at the problem solves things it doesn’t the data the history shows that it doesn’t work! it starts in the home with family values and teaching kids responsibility and accountability for your own actions. Stop enabling these people. I am disgusted after serving my country in 2 wars and I can’t get a appointment at the VA for 3 months yet these dirtbags get free meals and spit on fireman and police that try to help them? Screw that you people are out of your mind. Elderly people can’t even get medication or buy groceries and you want to spend more money paying social workers to give a bandaid to those lazy dirt bags? What is wrong with you. Our country is on the brink of civil war because of it. Trust me I seen it in other countries. You have the shootings that just happen in San Jose California because some guy was so sick and tired of working his ass off only to watch others sit around and do nothing to earn their paychecks at the VTA light rail repair yard. The guy just had it with people taking advantage of the system and not doing their fair share of work. People are not going to tolerate this monkey crap show much longer. I am ashamed to be called a west coast person born and raised. I am glad I am living in Europe as the west coast begins to implode. Liberalism doesn’t work.

They can lay around on the beaches in the sunny weather; and have their meals in the food pantry!

the thing is people think that if you are millionare or rich person you are obligated to give money to people who dont have, but in reallity you are not obligated, is not your responsability to feed poor people, or eaven take care of them, that way of thinking is very comunist and socialist, in capitalism your money is your own money and if someone dont have the same amount of money as you, is not your problem
