Hey everyone, sorry for another update video. Hopefully this explains some of the issues I'm having with releasing content, and with life in general. I don't mean to cry about my problems every time I get on here, but there are times where I need to let some of this out I think, and I can't afford a professional. I also feel that given the support I have gotten from this community, you all deserve to know where I'm at.
I think we all hoped for a fairytale comeback story here, and I've really been trying to make that happen, but I'm not sure it's meant to be. I feel like I've just been struggling to get off my knees here for ages, but I'm hitting dead ends a fair bit. I'm going to keep going, and looking for the opportunities, but I feel like I need to focus on solving at least some of these problems as my main priority for a little while. This just means the content on the channel will remain fairly lite until I can find some kind of comfortable place to lay my head and start working through some stuff.
I miss having the interactions I get from this community, it's a rare source of support for me at the moment, but I feel like I'm slowly killing this channel with these updates, so I'm going to lay low for a while and sort my stuff out.
Take care and all the best to you guys. Hopefully I'll be back with positive updates and hobby content soon.
Love you all,
Shawn.

Uncle Shaun it's Andrew, Leah's son. Please, please try contacting Liz or Brian and seeing if they can house you for a time so you can get back onto your feet. I've been following your channel and situation for a while and always found comfort in your optimism for a better future. You can and will find a way back, please don't give up. And I look forward to seeing you post content more regularly again. Love you uncle Scrub

Big love to you, man. Weirdly i used to live in my music studio for a long time, and grew to be real comfortable with it. But that was always by choice, so i can't really offer advice there. All i can suggest is don't worry about posting content. Just put stuff up when you're comfortable and vibing again, and we'll be looking for when it comes out. Hope things settle for you soon

Thank you mate. One thing I've realised about being homeless, it's not all about 'can you live uncomfortable', a big part of it is how do deal with having nowhere else to go. Like I said in the video, it's that constant feeling of 'ok, I'm ready to go home now', but there just isn't one. When it's not just a matter of time until you go home, and you can't picture what it even looks like, you have to climb over a wall of hopelessness everyday to get shit done. But I'm still looking every day for an opportunity to improve my situation, and I'm working on the idea that I can make things better. So hopefully I'll have more positive updates soon. Thank you for the comment mate. Take care and all the best.

Shaun, please, brother. You are not a train wreck, and that isn't why I watch. You are going thought a lot, it is something everyone does at some point. And this year is a hard one for us all. You have faced more than most, that's true. But I have learned to respect your honesty, your will, and your drive to get up after so many times of getting knocked down. I will be here when you decide to post... or not. You take care of yourself, your daughter, and your life. You matter to me more than the content. You are a good man, and I am humbled by your drive and patents with the deal you have been given. I will stand by you, not stair in hope of a new disaster. My wife and I both send hope you you every time we see your posts... Hang in there, you are loved by people you will never know. 🤙

My main sentiment is this too. Use this channel to vlog like this if that has a function for you right now. Just on a basic human level it would be great to see your situation improve. If that improvement happens off camera and I never get to know about it, that would be just as good for me. Best of luck

Thank you for your comment. Kids change the landscape, no doubt. I could probably tough it out here, and accept this for the time being, but the guilt I carry not being able to give my daughter even just the basics when she visits is really really hard to deal with. I do my best to make it fun, and I hide the fact I'm hanging by a thread, but at some point she's going to catch on, or not want to come here. I just feel like a shit dad. I've been working along the lines of 'things will work out soon' and I'll find an opportunity to change my situation, but I'm starting to wonder if this IS things worked out, not to say I can't do better, but maybe I'm just aiming too high. Obviously, my situation is wearing me down a bit, and this week I'm in a funk. I'll be right. It gives me comfort to hear that you are looking back at these struggles from a better place, and I hope I can update you soon with some positive news. Thank you for your message. All the best to you and your family.

Shaun, please don't worry about releasing content. We'll all be here for you whenever you can release something. For now, you need to concentrate on reducing the stress that you're under. I understand that "camping out" in the factory is a hell of a way to live. I just wonder if a caravan is your best option. As for a workspace, I would encourage you to try to have a compact space where you will be living as well as exploring options for a bigger space that you don't have to rent. Family, friends, friends of friends, someone must have some space that you could use. Please take care of yourself and try to stay positive.

hey man - im so sorry things are as hard as they are, everything youre feeling totally makes sense, you dont need to be the one talkin down to yourself. take care of the necessities first, get a roof over your head, get some time with your kid, and take the rest one step at a time. creativity looks like a thousand things (and its so important), so feed that too, but it can be whittling, sketching, music, whatever for a while things even out, and just leave the channel up for when youre ready. im tuning in from across the world, and well be here when you get back.

But I do have to step away from promising hobby content on here for now, it's just hard to do with the cloud of more important problems hanging over me right now. I hope to have a more positive update soon. Thank you so much for the comment and support. Take care and all the best.

I think the content we all most want to see is just you feeling happy, hobby or no hobby. If your path to recovery takes you away from the hobby and/or the channel, for a while or forever, then it is what it is. Your videos are a gift, not a contract, you've given us plenty; please don't feel any obligation to give us more. While I'd love to see new videos in the future, I'd be perfectly content if you called it here and had the best possible chance of getting better. Whatever you do, I'm staying subbed. Good luck man

Take your time man, youtube will still be here. I've taken 6-8 month breaks on my channel and when you come back people are usually just glad you're back. Sure numbers are down for the first couple, but it bounces back quicker than you think. As for tough times, I've definitely never had as a rough of a go as you had, but one thing I found helpful for my (relatively) dark times is trying to commit to an easy thing. You know like youtube shorts where you show off something small or just a direct to camera video where you talk about your thoughts on (insert thing here). While it seemed like a chore some days I think I realized that having that structure to produce something did help my mental well being. So maybe give that a shot and see if it doesn't help.

Cheers mate. I have to let go of making my usual content for the time being. I've just felt an obligation to the people that have supported the channel, and that weighs on me a bit (this is just me feeling like I didn't deserve what the community did for me, not the community making me feel this way). I felt like I had to release this video because I've been trying to force it now for months and it just results in half-assed projects and poor quality videos that I end up throwing away. The reality is, I'm not well, and trying to fix all the things at once is me not fixing any of them. Thank you for your comment and advice mate. I think I will play around with some short content for a while. Take care and all the best man.

So I do need to focus up on life for a minute, I'm hoping I can find a more stable and comfortable place to stay, which should be a big step in the right direction for me. Just keep going and enjoy every moment with your daughter. THAT is SO important. also good to remember that "he hobby" is to bring you joy and peace, not to bring you money. Your channel will "shift", Everyone we know who run channels have been having struggles. Life is suffering, sometimes, it feels "endless", just remember, you ARE "making progress", it's just frustrating when it's difficult to point to anything tangible. You made this video. Just saw a shout out for your channel on Facebook from a bloke who'd just discovered your channel and the situation you've found yourself in. I chimed in to let 'em know I've learned a ton from your videos and they should check out your stuff. It's all still up there mate for hobbyists to watch. No new content? No worries. Look after yourself and concentrate on getting settled first, we'll still be here. At 65 and a one-time single dad to two under six year olds, I've been in the dark place with not a pot to piss in. Believe the fact things will get better but you have to get right in yourself first. A safe and livable space, that's your prime concern. Thank you for watching and commenting. I had no idea someone shared it, thanks. I'm glad you've found some useful stuff here on the channel, it always feels good to know there was something in the videos to help someone out. After the fire I recieved a ton of support from the community, and I feel like I need to be doing more to justify that support, but I've been trying to force it now for months, and it just ends up being poorly executed and I end up binning the project before I even finish. So I think the best path forward is to find a place to live, and then tackle the next problem, rather than trying to fix all the things and getting nowhere. Thank you again for the support and kind words, I really appreciate it. Take care and hopefully I'll have positive news to share soon.

I’ve lived in shops and studios a lot, and did journeyman work while living in a van for a couple of years. A gym membership is very helpful. The YMCA often offers scholarships, and maybe there’s something similar where you are. My current shop has hooks in the walls that I mounted for hanging a hammock - for mid day naps. I don’t have kids, so this is a real difference. Sleeping in a shop is no worse than a caravan, really.

Thanks for the comment mate. The workshop is far from the worst situation I could be in, and I could probably tough it out, but having a young daughter, and wanting to keep seeing her, I need to take things up a level. We go camping or visit family now when she visits, but every visit with me is a logistical challenge to make sure we've got accomodation, while trying to hide the fact that her dad is currently hanging by a thread. It's the lack of basic amenities (like running water) that makes this place a bit of a struggle to do day in and day out. That, and knowing there's nowhere else to go make it tough. Thank you for the message mate. All the best to you and your family.

I wish you luck in the challenges you are facing and rest assured most if not all of you're viewers will wish you the same after all if you're unable to put content up for a while our worlds won't come an end but it could mean you'll be able to comeback rather than try to struggle on trying to juggle everything and end up having to chuck it in. Do you first then worry about us. Sorry about the waffle good luck

Shaun, you are truly an inspiration to us all, i know its rough but i also know it will get better!, quick question, not sure on size etc, but could you get a caravan/camper and park it by the factory thereby cutting rent?
@RFDHobby
@RFDHobby 15 күн бұрын
Thank you mate. I do have a small camper I use for getting away with my daughter, but it is VERY basic. I've considered upgrading it to something I can actually live in, but I'm still trying to see if I can find a place to park it. Unfortunately I can't put it here, and the factory is not at all a secure place, we have a bit of a problem with drunk people exploring, breaking into shit, and generally just vandalising shit. I'm pretty sure the van wouldn't survive here, but there might be something out there that fits. Thank you so much for your comment and suggestion. I'm scaling back what I thought I was going to do, to be much more realistic, so you're suggestion is on the money, I just need to iron out the details and find a spot. Take care and all the best, I really appreciate your support. I'll let you know how it goes. Shawn.

Sorry to hear of more tough times for you. Ive checked in on the channel from time to time and saw life had dealt you a rotten hand. I echo what someone said above, did u own the land of where your house was. If so prehaps you could build a base from there? It would at least be a site to house a caravan for a stop gap till you find a way to get back on your feet. The worlds really a tough place to get by in atm, your not alone in your struggles but im pretty sure thats no comfort. All the best ill keep checking in on the channel from time to time. I hope you find a solution to your housing situation so you can at least have your daughter over to stay. Peace ✌️

Thank you mate. Unfortunately, my partner left around the time of the house fire, so we had to sell the land to be able to split that. I'm currently looking at options for a caravan and a place to park that semi-permanantly, not the best solution, but possibly the only realistic one at this point. I'm hopeful that I'll find my way through this. Having a comfortable place to rest and feel safe is really important to feeling good, so that's a real priority for me. I'll get there. I really appreciate the comment, and for checking in, hopefully I'll have some more positive stuff on the channel soon. All the best to you and your family mate.

I spent two of the last three years living out of a truck and after it died the last year back out on foot. Times are terrible for most everyone, so please do not feel like you are in this alone or that you owe anyone anything. Get back on your feet and make some content here and there when you can. I managed to make a bunch of substitute Ork Datacards with a small group of guys and apps on my phone since I couldn't actually be building models this winter while outside because I hate doing nothing and still wanted to be a part of the hobby that I love. I still would be furthering the project I was working on but one accidental fall shattered my screen, but I'm not letting that stop me from being optimistic about getting back to it sometime soon. I get depressed once in a while about how much time is wasted because of my situation, but I still can show up to the FLGS and share my insights and knowledge about building models and terrain and while your situation is also far from ideal, you can also keep sharing your knowledge and experiences. Hoping that you keep your chin up.

Thank you for the suggestion. Sadly there aren't any spaces for me to setup (apart from where I am), and if I'm honest, I'm not sure how safe it would be to have a van out here, we have a bit of a problem with curious drunks and people that like to vandalise random stuff for no apparent reason. Abandoned factories must be a bit inticing to people looking to do some dumb shit. :) Thank you for support though, I really appreciate it. Cheers again for your comments.

I dont know anything about the place or how big it is. But isnt it possible to get some construction lumber and set up a small simple living space inside? Just the simplest walls. Or more like just dividers. A sofa, bed and table doesnt need much space. Could even put the bed above the sofa.
@RFDHobby
@RFDHobby 2 күн бұрын
Thanks for the comment mate. I have made a small room in here that I'm able to keep my bed and clothing in, it works well, I have a small heater in there so when it gets really cold I can at least go in there and warm it up a bit. The real problem is the lack of water and power. No bathroom or sinks, and only 2 power points, so I have to be selective about what I use so I don't trip the power by using too much at once. I'm making it work, but as a long term solution it is pretty rough living. I really appreciate the comment and suggestion though. Take care and all the best.

Is there not enough space in the workshop to fit a proper apartment?
@RFDHobby
@RFDHobby 2 күн бұрын
Sadly no. The space (an old boiler room in the factory) is actually mostly taken up by the landlords vintage car collection (most are wrecks and not restored cars), he rents me a space at the back of the boiler room here to have some shelves and workbenches. I have made up a small room for my bed and clothes, and this works alright as I can at least keep that room warm with my small heater, but it is only big enough for a sleeping space. The space also doesn't have water, and only 2 power points, so I have to be selective about what things I turn on so I don't trip the power. I'm getting pretty good at it though. Thank you for your comment. All the best mate.

Hey Dave, thanks for watching and commenting mate. I'm looking at my options for living in the caravan, I can scale back my workshop and take things back to basics, which might be the way. I think as far as my health goes, finding a comfortable place to exist has to be my priority right now, with my hobby fitting in around that, rather than the other way. I'm hopeful I can make that work somehow. Thank you again for the comment mate, I'll update once I have some news. Shawn.

I may not understand clearly, but it seems you are sleeping in the factory, and paying rent to keep it. Can you not make the factory more of a home? As in: get a small (3') fridge/freezer for 50 bucks, a small gas or electric stove with one burner for the same, and a portable chemical toilet, again, for about the same. An inflatable or other mattress and comforter? For 200 bucks total, you could have the basic home necessities - toilet, bed, stove and refrigerator. You could cook meals for yourself. You could poop. You could sleep warmly. For another 50, you could put up Japanese screens or other dividers to create the feeling of a room of your own within your work space. You could do this without telling your landlord and through avoiding any relevant occupancy laws by simply not talking about it. Once accumulated - over time, months, if necessary, you would have a relatively decent space. You could put a rug down for warmth, and add a small portable heater. You could add an inflatable Japanese tub - I have once done this, and it works. You must have a water source, which you must be accessing. This could keep your situation livable and stable while you sort shit out. I was homeless, twice, and while not grand, these things can make a surprisingly decent living situation. Just cooking your own food can make a big difference, not to mention having a place to crap. Downlow usage of a space is valid and morally right in an economy where houses are unaffordable. Please consider the possibility, since you seem to be living in the factory space already. Maybe you could make your factory rental a home - for a while, at least?

Hey man, maybe lean into the train wreck? I know this sounds callous but youtube allows us to be voyeurs into every aspect of life. Most people do not really share the actual train wreck. They polish it and package it or it doesn't really exist. It just sucks that this has happened. The only thing I can think of is make lemon aid which may be leaning into it. I dunno man. Document the slide. I prayed for you after the fire. I lost track when I had my heart attack last year but youtube is reminding me of you again. I hope it helps to know I will pray for you again now.
