I give you props for taking the time to make this video. It's instructional and overall would be a good beginner's system. For anyone considering building this I would make the following suggestions. 1st, as he says in the video, get a black box! Not hard to find online. Not sure why you would ever want to use a transparent box. So much extra work and even the base being transparent is an issue. Getting a black box also takes out of the equation the taping of the lid on to the base. Changing the water would likely involve removing the tape and then re-taping. Also, after each crop you're going to want to do a thorough cleaning which would also involve removing and re-taping. In other words, be prepared to buy a lot of reflective tape! Reflective tape is not cheap! As someone else said, I would also recommend drilling the air holes into the base instead of the lid. Very high up on the base.My other suggestion involving bubbling with this type of system where your roots are always in the water is to space out the air stones for even distribution across the container. Also, on this type of system you want to keep those bubblers going all the time and a general rule of thumb is you can never have too many bubbles whenever the roots are in the water 24 hours a day. The other problem I see with this type of system is that the water is directly below the light source. If you're growing in a tent, it's going to get a little bit on the warm side which is fine for your plants but not so much for the water as this can cause root rot. Yes, even LED lights throw off heat! You could keep the water cooler by adding another reservoir outside your tent with a small water pump and then build a return. This would keep the water circulating constantly and as long as the outside room is on the cool side you shouldn't have a lot of problems with water temperature.

Drill the air hose holes high up on the side of main box meaning access through the lid is far easier to change the water, etc.

You could have sprayed the box black then put the reflective film on. FYI: Roots do not like light either. Reminder: "96w DIY LED Grow Light - How to build it for $57" You said an update was coming, years ago. I think your definition of "soon" is incorrect. - half-joke

Great video but realistically that setup is great for lettuce..not ideal for tomatoes. .which get huge..would outgrow the area very quickly
