THIS IS THE FIRST VERSION. Of course it's not the perfect homemade scooter ever. But I've learned a lot and I'll improve my design. The electronic part it's universal for any project that you'll do. Even for electric bike or longboard. I hope tahat you'll enjoy the entire video. And stay tuned for future upgrades. Check the links belwo for more info.

One idea for the second version (Use Hall Effect Sensor to have RPM indication also you can add a voltage divider so you can monitor the battery voltages and install a small I2C Lcd to get the data on) I think it would be a very nice touch to see it on the Homemade electric scouter Keep it up XD

Well done, look for J.B. weld epoxy, this is used for heavy duty, high temp repairs. you can grind and drill it. it just might provide a durable surface for the roller. Also I would add the second bracket to support the roller. What you have now is putting a large shear force on the 2 screws holding the motor on to the one bracket.

Very cool!!!! Since you are the only one using a brushless motor for a scooter, you should consider making your own ESC and add generative braking capability and charge the batteries while decelerating… some logic to the Arduino and IGBT’s away to do that!!! Great job!!!

Keep an eye on those batteries most all esc have a constant Power draw and will run your lipo flat dead or cause it to drop low enough to short out . But great build I believe I'll try this out .

First of all: nice project! Some possible improvements: -Enable the break mode of the ESC! This way you can remove the one way bearing (one less part to fail), and you can use the throttle to break in an emergency situation. It's nice to have IMHO. -Also, if your GND wire gets loose (note that you move the handle to turn all the time) between your potentiometer and Arduino, you can't stop the scooter. To detect cable cut, just add a small resistor in series with the potentiometer (so e.g. your max. voltage is only 4.9V instead of 5V), and scale your analog measurement accordingly. If you read 5V nevertheless, stop everything, it means your cable got cut somehow. -Make sure your batteries get proper cooling, especially if you want to charge them in a closed box! Burning lithium is not funny. It's very hard to extinguish for a start. -You can use this 3d printed pusher for the ESC's button, but I would simply put a button on the box, and solder some wires to the ESC's button. It's easier IMO, and a soldering iron beats a 3d printer in speed. :) -Also, a ribbed pulley might be a reasonable addition. If you 3d print it, you can fill the place where that notch is on your motor's shaft. If you use a lathe, this is more difficult.

I've built almost the exact same motor mount for my e-bike however the motor as a generator will be pressed up against the rear wheel, during braking only, instead of standard brake calipers, The goal is to capture the power to charge a battery - probably using a super capacitor circuit & buck converter. For your pulley I'm trying an aluminum motor shaft coupler. A simpler use would be a brake light.

I give this tutorial a 9 out of 10, the only thing you didn't do was tell us about your mistakes before you made them. If we were following this video we would have to figure out where all the mistakes were and make sure we're actually 3D printing the right pulley.

We’re working on a project and using your electric scooter as inspiration. We were wondering what the specs were for the DC brushless motor (specifically the voltage), since the link in the parts list to the product is broken. We tried looking up the motor using the product/manufacturing number that was in your schematic, and noticed that it was rated for 36V and that you powered it with 14.8V. Was that indeed the motor you used and if so, did the motor draw more current/did you notice any damage with prolonged use? Essentially, we’re concerned about the potential consequences of undervolting the motor by that much. Your insight would be greatly appreciated!

1. you should definitely rethink the transmission of power from engine to wheel. This friction solution will bite you back when you will ride on wet surfaces. 2. Instead of that rubber band you can use a circular spring (i have no better translation to english). You can easy find one in a toy. Those that you drag back and let them go. Overall is a nice project for a prototype keep up.

Thanks for the great video man! I´ll try to build this thing myself.... Not experienced in electronics at all but I´ll try it. But let me ask you one question please: Is there any possibility to limit the speed with the code? (might be nice if you want to run it on the streets) Or even better is there a possibility to set the speed to lets say 5km/h if some wire/pin/cable is pulled? There are some strange laws in some countries ;-) Thanks in advance!
