Testing out my homemade airboat on a frozen lake! This is made from a 30hp paraglider engine bolted to a duck boat. I've been working on it for a while now and have some other videos showing more construction detail.

Skis on the bottom would reduce friction. Old skis, from a thrift store would work.

That is a really cool build. How deep of snow do you think that could run in? I'm thinking about making one for ice fishing up here in da UP, we get a lot more snow than anywhere else in the midwest.

Nice! I should dig the airboat out of the garage and play with it some more, it's a lot of fun.

In another video you strapped on wheels and ran it on pavement. I wonder what would happen if you were to strap on some sled rails - less resistance.

I've got to build one of these !!!

It's been relatively easy to build, the hard part is finding a little airplane engine that fits on a boat!
@niceboy7613 жыл бұрын
@@saveitforparts to make that go faster pal and lose some drag get yourself some upvc pipe cut stright down the middle with grinder then put 2 strips of battening down the length of boat then slide the upvc pipe over the battens it holds itself on and the upvc actually works like an ice skate but because of the round profile of the pipe it allows it to slide left and right aswell making turning easy trust me I make sledges for kids in winter they are like shit of a shovel on them everyone asking can I make them 1 as there's brake with just being those plastic ones enjoy
@redcapphony4 жыл бұрын
Pretty cool. Do you have any plans to put a more powerful engine?
@saveitforparts4 жыл бұрын
The 30hp engine is almost too big! On flat water it gets frighteningly fast, even with two people in the boat. When I filmed this it was around 40 degrees and the lake had a few inches of wet sticky snow on top of the ice. I think it would go a lot faster on bare ice or even cold dry snow.
@NERPAATV3 жыл бұрын
Супер!

Can you reach faster top speeds on a frozen body of water? Seems like the drag should be less and that's where the airboat configuration should really shine.
@saveitforparts4 жыл бұрын
I think it does go faster on ice. I'm also less afraid of spinning out on ice, in water it feels like it could roll over if it starts spinning!

@@saveitforparts you should find a way to make it wider
@saveitforparts3 жыл бұрын
@@Kyle17206 It's just an old duck boat, I'd probably have to custom-make a hull to get it wider, and that might be heavier than the aluminum hull I have now.
@terryobright5 ай бұрын
i like how you did this, can you tell me where you got the prop guard?
@saveitforparts5 ай бұрын
I built it out of aluminum pipe and chicken wire :-P The first one I made was plastic pipe, but I had a little accident and shredded that with exploding propeller 😅

Hello. Very nice videos! Where can i find this mini air boat on the water?
@saveitforpartsАй бұрын
I haven't had it out for a while, it's kind of buried under other stuff in the garage. I need to find time for boating this summer!
@StarJackerSRLАй бұрын
@@saveitforparts Please do! I also have to get back to my boat that has been sitting for 2 years now. I bought a simonini mini 2 paramotor with 27 hp for my 18 foot narrow wooden boat that weights around 220 kg. Hope it will be enough to push my boat and cargo up river. What outboard would you compare to, the boat and paramotor setup you build? A 9.9 Hp outboard perhaps?

How did you make your turning mechanism?
@saveitforparts3 жыл бұрын
It's a rudder (piece of plywood) on hinges, with cables attached to it. The cables run through pulleys and up to a lever near my seat. I can push the lever forward or back to turn left and right (Apparently most airboats are steered like this, I guess because it's fairly simple?)

Hey I seen a video of your fanboat with wheels have u tried a single locked rear and casters on the front?
@saveitforparts3 жыл бұрын
The back is too heavy for just one wheel, it would probably roll over.
@waldosproject78233 жыл бұрын
Do you think it would work if it wasn’t too heavy?
@saveitforparts3 жыл бұрын
@@waldosproject7823 I'm not sure. The engine being up high throws off the balance, it's hard to tell how well it would work.
@waldosproject78233 жыл бұрын
@@saveitforparts thanks dude. I got the idea while wanting a sailboat set up on land to practice haha a sailboat may not be too heavy maybe the wind will fuck it up
@saveitforparts3 жыл бұрын
@@waldosproject7823 I've heard of land-based sailing, and ice sailing, and even small railroad cars with sails! If the wind is strong enough I think you can get anything to move.

What is top speed on the snow?

In this video the max was about 22mph. Bare ice is faster than sticky snow, I think I got it up to 26 this weekend (video of that soon).

There are a couple lakes up north where they're banned but nothing that I know of in Southern MN.
