So glad you decided to re-publish it. .... I love this gal Marsha and her soap is the most perfect bar of soap and what’s so great about it is that it’s a nice old-fashioned all-purpose bar of soap with all sorts of good stuff in it. You don’t need all those fancy colored swirls. Give me a bar like this any day and I’m in heaven. .... This video is a gem beyond price. Please don’t remove it again. Please leave it uploaded indefinitely. We need it so badly. It restores our soul in what really is most precious --> simplicity.

I’ve been making Marsha’s goat milk soap for 8 years now. My 14 grandchildren where small then and love the patchouli one. Well most of them are all grown up now and will purchase the ingredients from Amazon and send them to my house, so needless to say I’m soaping this morning a 100 bars made for the lot of them.....I’m loving it!!

I absolutely love seeing the different ways ppl do things. There are so many things in this video that are such a “no no” in typical soap making. But they are done here with gorgeous results. This video blows me away! This is soap made like the pioneers made it, for sure! It makes me laugh when I think how careful I am with mixing just the right amount of lye and water, using Soapcalc to figure the correct mixture of soft and hard oils, and weighing out every single ingredient. This wonderful lady just pours in ingredients willy nilly and her soap comes out perfectly. Haha

(September 2022). By now, all your questions about making goat's milk soap have been answered in the comments, except one: "What are the *dimensions* of the mold box?" So let's solve it. 1. Lumber is sold by "nominal" dimensions, before shrinkage. The boards in this project are nominally 1 in. x 4 in., but actually they are 3/4 in. x 3.5 in. 2. The box is 5 sectors long by 5 wide, for a total of 25 bars of soap, each weighing about 4 ounces. 3. At 18:36 in the video you can see the inside width is 10 inches, or perhaps a little more. 4. The camera loses focus on the yardstick in the long dimension, but by measuring to the the halfway point, and then doubling the number, we can estimate it is about 16 inches. 5. Soap has a density of about 0.52 ounces (oz.) per cubic inch (cu in.). So a 4 oz. bar has a volume of 4 / 0.52 = 7.69 cu in. 6. The width of each soap bar is 10 in. / 5 = 2 in. Divide 7.69 by 2 to find the product of the remaining dimensions. 7.69/2 = 3.85 square inches. 7. If the inside length is 16 in., each bar is 16/5 = 3.2 in. long. Therefore the thickness is 3.85/3.2 = 1.2 in. 8. To build a 10 in. x 16 in. box, you would need 5 boards with nominal dimensions of 16 in. x 4 in. (actually 16x3.5), and two boards measuring 4 in. x 12 in. 9. Or you could buy a kitty litter box at the dollar store.

Swear by this soap. I leave out the steric acid, goat's milk and tea tree oil. I don't add the fragrances or colourings. I keep it very basic. The only soap I can use on my sensitive skin. So easy to make. Brilliant video watched it many years ago and got the recipe back then. So pleased to find it again just to reassure me I had the lye quantity right. I make it every year. This year after moving house I couldn't find my written recipe this show saved me. So glad it was still available on you tube.

I have made this recipe many, many times and I love it! Only change I make to it, is that I really HATE the smell of tea tree oil so I make it with rose, lemon, or lavender scent 😊 I have not bought any store bought soap for 5 years! Thanks so much to both of you for sharing your expertise! The most fun I have had with this soap was one Christmas while living in Oklahoma. My youngest daughter was in grad school in Stillwater. We decided that we would wrap up a bunch of these bars individually and put ribbons on each bar and took them to one of the local nursing homes and left two with each of the residents that we visited. We told them that we had made them from scratch, just like their Mama and Grandma had done. Their eyes would light up and you could watch them take a trip down memory lane. It was as much a blessing to them as it was to us!! NOTE TO SELF: let's do that for Christmas this year!

Thank you for sharing. So far ive made my own liquid Castile soap. I m at the beginning of my own all natural herbal soap and shampoo journey. I now make my own laundry detergent which has saved us a lot of money. Just like you I m a grandmother and my interest in all natural herbs and creams etc plus tinctures etc was due to my daughter having diabetes and my grandson having eczema. I have always wanted to make homemade soap ..at age 56 I finally did it. That was over 10 years ago and I love it. Have not store bought soap in over ten years same with laundry soap. Love looking for good recipes...

Just saw this for the first time. I am going to make my own soap from now on. 2 very bright women. Love Misty and her friend. I am naturally starting to become a minimalist and I like myself better for it. I guess I could go online and find where to order the powdered lye and powdered goat milk. My mother made soap for laundry and warshin' the floors. She used pork fat, not lard. After slaughtering the hog, she would render all the pork fat, she would strain it through cheese cloth, so the soap was a tan color with flecks of brown in it. Clothes were so white and she never used bleach. Yep, I'm going to make soap.

It is the only soap that does ot break me out. So happy you reposted this. I miss Missy Prepper. Hope all is well with everyone.

I promised myself I would never make this soap, and ordered it, instead. It was wonderful. Somehow, this video kept "calling me." I broke down, and bought all the ingredients. I was close to the end of making it, and remembered to add the lemon juice. Boom! My soap began to rise. I thought it was going to explode. Scared the living daylights out of me! I started to run away from it. Thank goodness common sense was stronger than my need to take flight. I then went online to see if I could repair it. I cooked it in a slow cooker for a week. I finally gave up, and was going to throw it away, but I could not fathom throwing away all that money in the trash. I put some in molds, other part I put honey & oatmeal in. Let it cure for a month, but wasn't necessary since I cooked it for so long. Turned out to be the best soap! I experimented and put some in the food processor until it was somewhat powdered, then added cold water and fragrance ( fragrance oils and/or perfume). Awesome that it retains the fragrance. It makes a wonderful body wash, especially using with a body scrubber. The lather is phenomenal! It takes a little while for the powder to breakdown in cold water (I still use it as it's breaking down, in a pump bottle). If you use hot water, you get that slimy consistency, which is why I experimented with the cold water. Also, you will have to experiment on the thickness of the body wash. You can continue to add water to it, as it depletes. LOVE THIS RECIPE! I will use this for the rest of my life. Thank you Ms. Marsha! Prayers of blessings and peace!

I have only made soap twice now. A different lady's recipe the first time using olive oil. Then tried Marsha's recipe. It is the one I will use most times now. Love the lather and how the soap cleans. Thank you so much for sharing. Now to go get some spring water down at my folks place so I can make a new batch.

I made this recipe (half) and the soap looks lovely. I am new at this and covered my loaf mold overnight while cooling and there is a slightly darker circle in the middle. Should have I just let it cool down without covering? Asking because I intend to make this again for Christmas gifts. Thanks. Update: I didn’t cover the next batch’s loaf mold and all was well. We really love this soap. Thank you!!
