This is correct, rent control. But it's illegal, since they pretend granny still lives there. Also Chanandler and Joey are living together, because they can't afford an apartment by themselves. Phoebe and Rachel always have roommates, too. And Phoebe has to live outside where rent is lower. The only one who can properly afford to live by himself is a college professor.

Also a source is the "Picture a Day..." spoof where the last few seconds of the spoof shows jobs and other types of Homer before "You Kent Always Say What You Want".[2] According to an interview with Matt Groening, Homer has held 188 jobs in the first 400 episodes.

Build a resume and portfolio that gains a good audience. People do it everyday on youtube. Sadly when I was growing up, youtube and things like google ads did not exist so I did not have the luxury of using my free time to do it. I however was fortunately was young enough to use to the web to learn web development and programming which is what I've been doing for 10 years with no degree and I make above the average middle class wage all simply from building a resume. I hate my job though but I am blessed.

If globalization were the cause then productivity would be down as well as would the incomes of the top earners. But those numbers are up, the middle class numbers are down. It's an unfair distribution of wealth, plain and simple. People are working harder and making less money, unless they were born rich.
@DavidTaylor-es1bt
@DavidTaylor-es1bt 7 жыл бұрын
Doc, what I saw in the 80s was a passing of power from the WWII generation to the Boomers. There were many significant changes. Much manufacturing was "outsourced" to other nations. I see what people are able to do these days and from the manufacturing perspective "productive" is not a word that comes to mind. GE is in the process of bringing large portions of appliance manufacturing back to New Jersey. But they are not bringing many jobs back. They are automating. So the economy is doing really great, but the people are suffering badly.

Three decades later he may have the same salary but he's a completely different person. In one of the early episodes he got two jobs to pay for a horse for Lisa. In a mid nineties episode he drove his car into a horse and then wiped the blood off the screen with his windscreen wipers. Homer has went from slightly dim but likeable to a complete psychotic. Bart and Lisa are almost interchangeable now. Sometimes they make Lisa stupid or sometimes they make Bart highly intelligent if it fits in with the story. I'd like to see an episode where you analyze how the Simpsons personalities have changed over the years.

The combination of the music and the topic made this video weirdly depressing. I don't even live in the US. Doesn't the US have a poor working class? In most other countries the middle class is the one that is comfortably off, below the upper class and above the working class.

Almost everybody in the US thinks that they're middle class. It's socially unacceptable to be wealthy or poor, so people either exaggerate or downplay their wealth, pretending that they're middle class. However, at the same time, income inequality is increasing, so the middle class is shrinking.

While Marge is pregnant with Maggie, Homer barges into Mr. Burns' office and demands a job at the expense of his undying and humiliating loyalty. Pre-dating this, in a prior episode, occupational hazards are such a problem at the plant and Homer organizes a safety strike, to which he is appointed as the official safety technician. He also has a stint in college following a nuclear safety incident in order to keep his job. But, to answer your question, he works at a nuclear power planet because this is a cartoon that didn't require any kind of concrete lore in the 90s, or now for that matter ^_^

The US still functions (for all intents and purposes) on the Ancien Regime model: The First Estate is the economic elite (1% of the population), the Second Estate is politicians and bureaucrats (less powerful and smaller than the First Estate), and the Third Estate is everybody else (>98% of the population).

I think the family changes with the times. He started as one of those working class people in the 80s, who could still afford homes. By the 2000s, that was no longer possible apart unless you were middle class. The Simpsons also started doing much more middle classy type things, and having middle classy type things at home.
