Every year as part of their 12 days of christmas, IEW gives away the whole Teaching Structure and Style course. You get all the materials, source texts, and lectures for 3 months. Every parent that uses IEW writing courses for their kids should really utilize that opportunity.

Their course for teaching (TWSS) is also fantastic! Not necessary BUT it was essential for me. It takes me a while to grasp things so doing the teacher training before I started S&S was so helpful.

Thank you for this! We did IEW this year for the first time with my 10 and 12 year old and it was like jumping into the deep end for sure. My 12 year old has adhd, asd, dysgraphia and he's gifted. The videos felt so long so i started to teach them but i didn't love that much. We may try to break it up more this year.

Hello, Thank you for this video which included many helpful ideas for using IEW. I’m a grandma who edits my granddaughter’s papers. I asked her to highlight in different colors the various requirements for the paper as she’s typing her rough draft. That helps me to not have to search for or remember the required stylistic techniques used in each paragraph ( I.e. strong verbs, ly adverbs etc.) which usually takes a lot of extra time. I know you said your mom highlights the portions that need correcting so maybe the editor could always use just one color for the parts that need to be corrected to differentiate it from the several other colors that show the techniques that are included in each paragraph.

I completed 1A with one student last year and will have one in 1A and one in 2A next year. We loved everything except the way of organizing the binder. I found it a bit silly to have a seperate "source text" tab stored in their binders when once they finish a week you never look at that source text again. I didn’t realize this at first. I'll definitely be adjusting how we organize papers for both of them next year.

Thank you for this video! I have a profoundly dyslexic learner, could you please share which speech to text software you use? Those we have tried have been more frustrating than helpful.

We currently just use the ones built into apple and google but I wouldn't mind exploring other options in the future as sometimes they can be a bit frustrating.

Hi! Thanks for the video. Could you please tell your opinion what is better to start for rising 5th grader 2A or 1B. We have never used this program before. But as I understand IEW is very repetitive. English is not our first language and I want to help my kid be more confident in writing

Thanks for the hacks! I hve an incoming 6th and 7th grader. We have been homeschooling for a few years, but have really struggled with writing. If they have not had adequate writing instruction at this point, would you recommend starting with level A or B?
@LifeintheMundane

So the difference between level A & B is how hard the source text is. So for my kids I started with level A because I have several kids with dyslexia. There are samples on line if you want to see examples of both.
