You were the first home school mama on youtube I started following when we started a couple years ago. You've been so encouraging. My perspective of homeschooling have flipped completely. Going into our 3rd year and excited to feel the pull of just leaning on Him, the pull of learning to take it a bit more relaxed, a bit more simplified, just doing what fits us, and enjoy this time with my kids. I'm glad this pull is coming going into our 3rd year, as opposed to later. Thanks for your encouragement!

She was mine too! She just calms my soul to listen to her. Unfortunately, my daughter after a year and a half decided to go back. 😭 I’m missing her and learning with her. She’s in 8th grade and doesn’t want to spend her days just me & her. I wish I’d had the resources & internet we do today with my oldest way back, she’s 24 now, and I had homeschooled them all! I see how much closer families are, how much more well behaved and well adjusted homeschooled kids are. It makes me sad and feeling like I failed my kids by sending them to public school. The only curriculum we knew of was Bob Jones because 1 family we knew homeschooled. That curriculum was so intimidating. My husband and I both went thru public school. The one family we truly knew and the few families we’d been around that did homeschool my husband thought they were odd and didn’t know how to act around other kids. Now looking back all I see is that they were calm and overly behaved compared to the wild heathens running all around after church. I wish I’d known then what I know now. And I surely wouldn’t have allowed iPods, iPads, & video games even the supervised ones till they were in high school. My older 3 didn’t have it till at least junior high and they knew how to play outside and were so much closer to one another. My twins have to be entertained and seem like they don’t understand manners as well even though I deman they use them. I see nothing but benefit in homeschooling now! As long as moma can handle it and dedicates some self care time to herself.

LOVE that you made this video. It literally brought me to tears. Our first curriculum we used years ago was so tedious and rigorous, though it was a good solid curriculum, it burned us so much that anything else felt like it wasnt enough. But we were exhausted and one of us in tears each day...lol. since stepping away from that and branching out i have really been questioning year to year. I have been so overwhelmed by feelings of "not doing enough", " doing them a dis-service", ect... I needed to hear this plain and simple encouragement. ❤️ thank you!

YES!! Thank you for sharing. So many of us need this!! I am just starting out. I took my girls out of 3rd and kindergarten in the middle of the year last school year so this will be our first full year and I have been through so many of the curriculum videos and the how to plan and all the things like that to give me ideas and help me figure out what the heck I'm doing but its videos like this that I have been loving and leaning into because after all those other videos, while I have a great idea of what is out there and the many options I have, I still am not sure what is going to work for us. I'm learning and I think this is the most important time to be flexible because we have no idea what is going to come up in our home for us and we have to be able to adjust to those things. I will be saving this video so I can come back to it for a reminder and encouragement when I notice I'm straying from my priorities for our homeschool.

Wow! I love this and what I really needed to hear today was your points about curriculum. I literally cried because it was weighing on me so much! I am brand new to homeschooling and I’ve been so overwhelmed looking into curriculum. I have watched so many reviews on You Tube and blogs and all the things. I have literally had sleepless nights all week doing research on my computer and worrying about getting it right. I’ve felt sick from the stress of it. Thank you so much! I love your heart and advice. I have 4 boys. My oldest are twins going into 1st grade and I have felt called to homeschool and spend time with my kids in the most important years and I don’t want to miss it. I care so much for their minds and hearts. I want to cultivate of a love of learning and reading all the good books! You have really made me reflect on a lot and it’s put me at peace in a big way to know I can design my homeschool to our personality, passions, lifestyle, and to my kids interests, etc. the only thing I knew for sure was that we want to lay the best foundations for the Lord to work in my sons to become godly men work hard, be thoughtful and wise, etc. Thank you thank you! I really needed this specifically today. I have been so distracted and overwhelmed. Now I know how to move forward! ❤Anna

Hi, I have never in my life subscribed to a KZfaq channel. Lol we love Outdoor Boys but even they have not made the cut. First of all, thank you for being a fresh, bold and kind Light in the world for moms. I have prayed for two years about homeschooling my son ( 4th grade this coming year) , one of which I almost took the plunge but decided against it. It year feels different this time and I can feel God slowly nudging me again to homeschool. I’ve spent HOURS upon HOURS of research. Your channel is different than any others I have come across.Period! Your walk with God, your vulnerability, your books ( currently reading Present over Perfect) and the hilarious fact that like me, I wing it. Lol this thing called life, totally winging it. Anyway, I just felt like I should reach out and thank you for putting no pressure on moms and yet standing firm in who God made you to be. Nice to see there are women out there like that. I truly appreciate all of your videos.

Hi! I love your insight and encouragement. I always feel better after listening to you. 💖 One of the things I wish I had known in the beginning was that not everything has to be planned out and perfect. I didn’t plan and just went completely at the pace of my boys and totally felt inadequate in comparison to some Mom friends who were Extremely organized with their children’s lesson plans. Then I went overboard and planned out the entire year- last year- and we still didn’t finish the entire lesson plan. 🤦🏻‍♀️ I’m beginning to be okay with that. If we do 90% of our lessons- I’m trying to be okay with that, knowing they learned enough. It’s becoming more about the experiences and the joy of learning. But now I have a new freshman this year and I’m freaking out about that!! 😂 Also, I can totally relate about being consistent. Last year we made a big move out of state and I was soo focused on packing up our lives and trying to prepare for our new home that my boys practically homeschooled themselves. I’m so grateful they did their work- but there wasn’t much interaction and joy. It was all book work. That’s my key word coming into this new semester and season in our lives. “Consistency.” 💜

I wish I would have known that I could have fun! I tried to recreate the public classroom and sit in the hard wooden chairs for hours at the dining table looking at my white board. When we did have fun it was for small 10 minute breaks outside for fresh air, when they really wanted to play and take a real break. I taught from 9am-3:30pm. I was pulling my hair out and after school I would tell my kids to go play and give me a break since I had been with them for hours. It was stealing all my joy and it’s such a shame because homeschool can be so fun if you let it! This year I am giving myself the freedom to just BE. We WILL take real breaks. We WILL go on FUN field trips, play games, read together, snuggle as long as we want, play outside. We WILL spend more time in course studies and less time in workbooks. I am so pumped.

Thank you for this! I will be homeschooling my son who is going into Kindergarten for the first time starting on Monday and I am a NERVOUS WRECK. I am so glad to hear you say it doesn't have to be perfect. I went to public school too, and there were so many things I loved about elementary school that I was so sad about him missing out on. But there are so many beautiful things that being homeschooled offers that public school does not. The freedom and the time with my child is what really attracted me to the homeschool world in the first place. Even if it only lasts one year, I will always cherish this time with my child. :)

I taught kindergarten for 14 years before staying home to homeschool my boys. Your boy will be gaining so much more from your individual attention and love than he could ever experience in public school. We always remember the “special” things about traditional schools and somehow forget the nonsense that we are protecting our children from by choosing to homeschool - the developmentally inappropriate expectations, active shooter drills, negative peer influence… just to name a few! Trust me, I’ve seen it all and I’m SO thankful for a new opportunity with my children. You will be just fine ❤️

Thank you for this! 3rd year of homeschooling here and what I needed to hear is “maybe you’re not the crafty Mom.” I AM the crafty Mom and the arts and experiments Mom but do you know what I am NOT? The Nature Mom. I so want my kids to go out and explore and to do the outdoor field trips or free outside time or outside school. But I hate bugs, and heat, and so many things about the outdoors, haha! 😂 And I’ve felt so guilty about that this whole time! I love the reminder that God sent us our babies for a reason and it’s okay to play to our strengths. I would still like to stretch myself and do some outdoor things with them, but if that’s not our daily or weekly life or we’re not the Ingalls Family, that’s okay.💜

This is a great video. Very encouraging. I would love some thoughts on how to motivate children once you've kind of "suffocated" the learning environment. We are trying to get back on track with a different mindset, but I don't know how to pull out of the rut of feeling like we have to do exactly what the books says, we have to do so many problems, so many pages a day, or we will be behind. it's a continuous cycle...

If God led you to this then you are doing what’s right. I wanted to homeschool mine way back when. My oldest is now 24. But because we didn’t have the internet or resources I caved and sent them to public school. I homeschooled my youngest daughter from half way thru 7th grade and we decided to repeat 7th grade the next year because she had always struggled. But this year she decided she’s tired of only seeing me all day everyday because she’s not used to it. I wish I’d homeschooled all of mine and now feel like I failed mine. Homeschool families are so much closer, happier, more well adjusted, and behaved. I heard a homeschool moma & curriculum author say something that stuck with me. As long as you teach her to learn she can learn anything. And that’s is the truth!!! Teach her the basics of language arts, spelling, & math. We’ve in some science & history. The older she gets gear it toward her interests. You can’t teach her everything & neither do public school teachers. Public school teaches them to memorize then throw it up on paper to pass a test and forget it. All they do is cram & there is no way they can actually learn much of it much less retain it. Childhood is so precious and short. She is your baby! And your baby to enjoy! No one in my family supported me taking my daughter out except she was bullied and in a bad way so they didn’t say anything because they didn’t know what to do. But they started telling me & her behind my back she needed to go back to school and she would never amount to anything. I know what God told me & that I could teach her better because she has adhd just like me & I know how she thinks and learns. Only you know your baby better than anyone. I wish I’d had someone to tell me all of this at one time. So here is my unsolicited probably unwanted 😂 advice that I wished I’d known from day 1. You are at the best place! The beginning. Enjoy it!!! Pray. Breathe. And learn to laugh. If you stay happy and keep your mood up then hers will also. And reach out any time you need it. There are so many amazing momas on here! I’m so sad I’m not homeschooling anymore. I may show up just to listen to Jaime’s soothing calming positive voice. 🥰

22 plus years for me...but it is ever changing with each of my 6 kids!!! Each of them has and does need things so differently for some of the other's. And what works for others will not work for you. Abeka is so much...in fact everyone I have ever talked to that didn't think Homeschooling worked the used Abeka....it's a lot!!! Love read out loud. We usually read something that pairs with what we are studying..we pull from everywhere and everything because each of children very. My special needs childs does some of everything his siblings are doing because he in different places for every subject. My teacher Mom told when I started was to always remember it's " progress not perfection " I am also a director of pretty large co-op and we have stuff going all the time, STEM Club, Games club, park play day's, teen groups, nature studies, field trips, etc and my 4 still at home play sports, take music, we are involved in church groups and activities my daughter does tumbling my boys are scouts and people say all time that is to much!!! But for who?? It works we thrive and flows perfectly it sounds like alot but it is ourconsistent. And it is working and has worked for so long...I hate the invisible competition 😒 just teach, let them learn, let your family thrive

I’d like to add.. homeschool doesn’t have to be the typical 8-12 M-F schedule. I have 4 young girls and we are still working around toddlers and naps. Some mornings I can deal with the toddlers while my two older girls get some school done. Other days it needs to wait until they are in naps so I can focus with my two older girls. And with that we get a lot of school done on the weekends when daddy is around to help. Whether he’s helping make the meals or doing the homeschool with the older two. My husband has a gift for teaching more than I have that gift. I make it work and I run our homeschool but he really can and does teach them the hands on type of stuff like canning food or cooking together or gardening. I unfortunately don’t have those gifts and that’s fine. But that’s why they have a Dad. Dads can homeschool too. At night he has them read before bed. A friend of mine had her husband teach a little math after dinner. It doesn’t all have to fall on the SAHM. Maybe a grandparent is around and can help with one subject. Our co-op is a life saver with certain subjects that I then don’t have to worry about at home. Would I like to do more yes but in this season of life it’s still almost survival. We are slowly coming out of baby/toddler phase. We are in our second year of homeschool, I can’t believe how fast the year is going!

If nothing else seems accomplished in my day, a single conversation that gives God's wisdom to them (in terms they understand) just made me feel like HS is all worth it. Praise the Lord❤

The perfect curriculum is you. You who are the ultimate facilitator of a custom learning for the unique people that you are raising. You who know their hearts best and see God working in them every moment and gave them to you for that specific purpose and knew that you were exactly who they needed and that also they were exactly who you needed as a momma 💗

Thank you for this video. My take away from this - be YOURSELF!, do what works for YOU and YOUR family!! That's what I needed. The comparison game can be soooooo damaging! Love your channel as it is so honest and down to earth. Being you! Love it!
