Servicing your ATV is important. Here is a video about changing the engine oil and filter. This is part of a Maintenance Series for my Honda 400 Foreman ATV.
In this video I show how I drain the oil and replace the oil filter. It's not a difficult task, but one that should be done on a regular basis. If you do any sort of maintenance to your ATV, this should be a task you tackle!!!
I hope you get some tips from this video and that you see how easy it is to keep your ATV is 'trail ready' condition. Take care and thanks so much for watching!!!

How's she goin'? Welcome to the channel and thanks for the nice comments. I bought this Honda 3rd hand and it has been nothing but great the whole time I had it (14 years) . Good job Grampie . Cartridge filter . Reminds me of my dad's 64 Chev Impala . Had a cartridge filter . If you screwed the metal casing on without properly seating the rubber gasket you'd get oil all over the place . Don't ask me how I know . LOL . My Honda 30 hp outboard motor has a cartridge oil filter . Just a little thing . Darn expensive I might add . Costs more than a Cummins oil filter for my Dodge pick-up

Hello Mike, I do all my maintenance on my Honda 4wheeler and Honda 3wheeler, ( Good machines)One thing I do is keep my dipstick out while I drain my oil(Don't know if you do this or if it helps but I think it helps drain better) I know its a waste of oil but I always pour a little new oil in the machine and let it drain out. I find it helps clean out any old oil thats left in there. What ever you do don't over tighten the drain plug( I did one time on my 3 wheeler and broke it! Keep warm
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there John!!! That's a great idea to add some new oil and let it sort of flush out what's left of the old oil!!! I'm going to start doing that. I take the drain plug out when draining. Didn't show it but like you say the oil drains a lot better. I also try and raise the opposite side of the bike to get the oil to drain better too. Breaking the oil filler, ouch, I bet the was an expensive part. I broke a rear differential inspection cover once and I think it was nearly $35 to get a new one. Hondas are good machines but you have to pay for them!!! Thanks for watching and take care!!

@@GrampiesWorkshop Hello Mike , Its kind of a waste of new oil, but I like doing it to clean out any old oil, I broke the drain plug ,so it wasn't to expensive. It seemed like it was light metal to me.Broke really easy, the dealer said you barely have to tighten them,(????) I was just happy I could still get parts for my old 3 wheeler( 1984). I use Castrol straight 30 in most of my machines, to each their own I guess. Are you tapping yet? I helped the boss do some tapping today. Wasn't running . Take care

In my experience, quads are the least maintained vehicle there is. Motorcycles, cars, trucks and even boats get better looked after. Most people hardly change the oil and don't do much else until it breaks. Then there's people like you who take care of stuff and know how to make it last.

I made a big mistake and accidentally put Honda hypoid gear oil 80w90 into where motor oil goes! Can I just drain it and put in the right oil?
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 2 жыл бұрын
How's she goin'? I'm no expert but if it were me this is what I would do. I would drain the Hypoid Gear Oil. I'd let it drain overnight probably. Then put a regular Honda oil and a new filter in and run the bike for a few kms. Then drain the oil, change the filter again and refill with proper Honda Oil and install a new filter. You may have to do this a couple of times. The gear oil is thick and may take some time to get totally flushed out of the system. Good luck and I hope this helped you some. Take care!!!

@@GrampiesWorkshop started to run pretty good, getting better to shift, but how do I reset the oil pressure light, stays on quite a long time, and will have to set the idle so she won’t die when I stop. Thanks for the help and info you’re giving me.
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
@@dietrichhanshenkel653 For the oil pressure light, there is a sensor on the engine crank case that senses the oil pressure. It could be that this senor is faulty. As for the idle, there are many things that can cause that. I had this problem once and I switched to high octane fuel and the problem went away. There is also an adjustment on the carb. If you look at the carb there should be a black knob on the carb. You can turn this and adjust the idle speed. And failing all these, a good carb cleaning will often times solve your carb issues!! Another good thing I have found was a manual for the ATV. I think the one I have is a Hanes, or a Chilton. Not too sure. Search on Amazon and you'll find them!! Take care!!!

Where is the best place to order Honda parts ???
@GrampiesWorkshop
@GrampiesWorkshop 3 жыл бұрын
How's she goin'? For my Honda ATV I order parts from a local dealer in the city. If he doesn't have them he can get most any part in a day or 2. I replaced the carb on my Honda with an aftermarket one from offshore. The price was crazy cheap and I thought I would try it. So far it's been working great!! So I guess the best place to get Honda parts would be a local supplier, but Honda parts can be very expensive, so bear that in mind. Not sure if I helped with this reply or not!!
