As a recent EV owner, my rather dull thoughts on if they are the future, or not...Plus, sticking it up the inside of the rozzers 🤣 The usual errors appear, I meant to say a ban on ICE car sales from 2035, not EV 🤦♂️

I have a Tesla Model 3 and I just love everything about it, the power, the comfort, the sound system is fantastic. I'm retired now (excuse the picture, it's 20yrs out of date), short journey's are best as I can charge from home. Costs about £5 which will last me about 2 weeks. I try not to let it go under 50% charge. On the rare occasion I might travel over 150 miles, a Tesla charging station at most will cost £20-£25. Charging time on a fast charger would take 20-30 mins. Enough time to grab a coffee and watch something on KZfaq.

That's my experience. I plug the car in to keep it at 100%, as the BMW system is set to 'Always charging' and it's ready to go. I don't mind popping into town now, as I don't have to worry about getting engine oil up to temperature etc. Off the line performance is addictive, even in a low powered EV!

As you have correctly (in my opinion 😂) identified, until EVs have a 250 mile range they are hopeless for anything else but pottering around town. Slightly off topic, I have an electric bicycle which I occasionally use for commuting, it's utterly brilliant, but if anyone thinks I should be using it everyday, then the cycling infrastructure needs to be vastly improved Take care out there

Yes Motty, a big range PLUS a fast reliable was to recharge. I watch a lot of EV stuff on KZfaq, and quite a few test the charging infrastructure with varying results. I guess I'll find out on my upcoming 400-mile round trip!

Electric is a real thorny one.... brave to go there. It's a layered solution to transport, with a range of fuels and tech to handle each need rather than a one size fits all answer. Regarding the i3.... some groundbreaking manufacturing went in to that car. Not perfect by any means and lots of people get them with the range extender. An expensive new car but a very good second hand car. Cheers.

For what I bought the i3 for, it is absolutely perfect. Will it replace the 911, not a hope! The i3 simply has no soul. It's a great bit of design, and still looks current to me, but it is just a machine.

Your use case is perfect for an EV but they are limited for other scenarios. My daughter has a Tesla Y and she loves it and does lots of miles. Personally I cannot be arsed with the charging grief. But if folk want an EV then why not but I am an ICE man.

Because I charge at home there is zero grief! I park it on the drive and plug it in. Then it's always at 100% charge when I need it, so I don't have to divert to a petrol station. Having said that, I did take the 911 out for a decent run yesterday, it howls on the pipe I have fitted 😂😁👍

@@MrDesmonick My mate has a 911 and a Macan (he right into the Porsche ) and been out with him when he makes that engine roars, EVs will never have that experience. But they have a place for sure.

Me personally cheap transport for commuting the bike is the Best. You can get a 125 motorcycle which does 180mpg. Obviously bikes arn't for everyone. If you already have a petrol or diesel car then it's not worth buying one, and I would always be thinking about where my next charge is or if there is a spare charger avaliable. And if your doing long miles the charging rates at the motorways or elsewhere can be up to 85p per kW, and if you need a charge you have to pay. I have a theory the govenment are controlling our movements, eventually we will be restricted to travelling within a certain range, and all electric cars will be tracked. And we will all be travelling around at 20mph. Battery cars will be replaced with a different technology for sure. Nice ride out. Cheers

Charging at home is 7p/Kw so it's an absolute no-brainer for a commuter car. I'm not sure anyone's trying to control our movements though, it's not like we live in China 😂 All modern cars are already able to be 'tracked', it's part of the satnav GPS. I can see where my i3 is at any point just by clicking on the app!
