Did you have the cam lobes built up? The cam looks great but does it now have less lift if it wasn't built up? I used to have a 400/4 when I was 17, that little bike got caned everywhere but never complained.

Stop beating yourself up on the narrative, it’s a really good talk through when time is money- and oh so clear walk through. I love the handed down experience you are sharing here , and like the best engineers, still always learning but knowing what is acceptable and what to look out for. So , as a previous 4/f1 owner, I gotta say loving this workshop hands on resto, no gimmicks, no naff music , loadsa knowledge. 👍👍. Best luck with the channel, subscribed ..

Just found your channel Jim and really enjoying the “waffelage”. Just for info, infrared temperature measurements are notoriously difficult to do on shiny metal surfaces, especially aluminium, and it’s not really possible to get an accurate reading without employing some additional measures. This is because the measurement relies on understanding the emissivity of the material being measured and also the wavelength of the IR camera being used, typically 8-14 microns for general use. The upshot is that shiny metal targets will appear much cooler than they actually are unless you use emissivity paint or tape on the target to take your reading on (Tippex also works or insulation tape). When using these measures, the camera emissivity setting should be set to around 0.95 to give you a more realistic reading. Just off to check out your GSX 750 rebuild!

I was watching to learn about the oil seal ring under the valve guides. No one seems to mention this online.

You surprised me with the camshaft Jim, when you first mentioned wear I immediately thought of Kent Cams and having them re profiled, about the only option for ’unobtanium’ such as these and the fact that buying second hand is often just buying someone else’s problem

Interesting the difference in valve spring compressed return force even though they are both in the same length tolerance. Good vids Jim, thankyou for posting

Great work Jim! I used to scream around the place on one of these back in then’70s. Mine was red and I don’t know how I didn’t kill myself! I went on to buy a CX500 brand new because I loved the Guzzis, but I couldn’t quite afford one. ( not that anyone is interested- I know)🥹🙄

Thanks for the information, learned a lot again. The 180 grid seems to be a very rough finish. For example Subi Performance uses a much more smooth finish? Can you explain the difference?

Hi Jim What is the make of the digital bore gauge you are using, like you I have been using a dial bore gauge and as I have got older, shaky hands and failing eye sight its hard work to get an accurate measurement! Great content by the way, its a refreshing change to get a wort's and all content. You posted a video on a CB550 rebuild which smoked after the event, turned out to be a piss fitting valve guide insert, I have had this a few times, had them drop when the engine is running and makes a right fuck pot of the engine!

Thanks for the comment 👍 The guage is a "Moore & Wright" one. Sorry, but I don't know the model number, and I can't be arsed to go in the workshop to find out. If I remember tomorrow, I'll let you know 👍
