Honda CB750 Clutch Cable Adjustment How-To
How to adjust your clutch cable on a Honda CB750. This is a very important adjustment to have right as it affects both the feel and performance of the clutch. Too tight can cause early clutch wear or even slip. Too loose and you can have a hard time shifting, finding neutral, and again create early wear.
This video applies directly to SOHC CB750 bikes from 1969-1978 but the basic idea can be applied to nearly any motorcycle with a cable clutch.

This is great stuff! Anyway you could do one of these for the throttle assembly? Been wanting to put handle bar turn signals or mirrors but have to cut the end of the grips and may replace the grips so I’ve been wondering how the whole throttle assembly installs on a classic CB . There’s not much online that I can find. Thanks!

Thank U bro !! I just order a new cable i broke it today ruining my surprise for my father ... (Just finish repairing some simple stuff on it for sitting ). We was riding and the thing just snap right in the handle . I was able to come back shifting not using the clutch at all . I was surprise how the transmission can be so easly shift with no clutch around 2400 2800 rpm .

Thanks for the video. I haven't had to adjust the clutch on my CB750 in the 3 years I've had it. Maybe a little at the handlebars to get it how I like it, but I haven't touched the adjustment down on the engine. Is it the kind of thing that once you put on a new cable and make the initial adjustment you don't really have to touch it (on the engine side) or will I eventually have to adjust it as the clutch plates wear?
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 2 жыл бұрын
Correct this is mainly for doing a new cable or just starting fresh with a new adjustment. Sometimes a previous owner can really get these out of whack so this is a reset in those instances

Great video, thanks for posting. I just recently picked up a 1975 Honda cb500t To me, it feels like the clutch is grabbing almost all the way out. Should I adjust one before the other, Maybe try adjusting cable first on either end or start off with the push rod. And then the cable. Where do you suggest the bike should start to creep? Thanks if you could help me out with that.

Adjust per the manual. This method is similar to many bikes.

MY 81 CB750 Custom starting to Slip Real bad. While Riding, it will Rev up at random. Almost could not make it up a hill it was slipping so bad. Mech not sure if it needs adjust or rebuild. $500 ( estimate) for Rebuild. Bike only has 27,500 it but was abused by previous owner. Also Starter don't like to engage and free spins when not warmed up. Valve Rattle to beat hell and are Fully Adjusted so next time, will need a Complete Valve Job. Back Break Peg don't even feel likes it's there, so will need a Break Job also... Only paid $2200 for it back in March. Guy did throw in a Free Front Cowl that would make it look like a Gold Wing If it actually Fit. Same color even.

I would reassess what you did on assembly. Confirm all discs are there, in the correct order, and hardware is as it should be. Also measure the springs.

So it's normal to have some play in the main clutch that you adjusted to start .
@BrickHouseBuilds

You must have a bit of play yes. Too tight and you risk clutch slip

The spec for these specific bikes is 10-20mm of travel at the end of the lever. I shoot for the lower side as well as proper feel.

What could be the issue if I followed these steps and when I pull the clutch lever, the clutch doesn’t seem to disengage?
@BrickHouseBuilds
@BrickHouseBuilds 10 ай бұрын
Perhaps a cable that is too far stretched or the clutch plates are stuck together.

@@BrickHouseBuilds Actually only now I've got it. You've inspired me and really made me go down to my garage and sit on it. Turned out I didn't have the proper washer to begin with and had to file the damn thing first. It gave me quite a going over. Now it's done the way you have it and, actually, apart from just looking cool it seems to have made the clutch going more 'manly' and precise. Awesome :D Now give us some more hacks and tricks!!
