Great job Mr Taley! Thank you and Partzilla! I hit a deer on my zx10r and thought my riding was over until I found your website. I had searched the entire internet hoping it would be affordable to rebuild only to find the parts would cost more than my bike until I found partzilla! The prices your company had allowed me to purchase all new oem parts and now I believe I have everything needed to rebuild it! Your customer service and support is second to none and I am so thankful to have found your company because my bike would have been parted out before paying some of the other sights prices I had seen. I am very grateful to have found such a great company to do business with.

I've done my oil changes following your guidance and there's one crucial thing you needed to add.. the old oil filter should be inspected for it's seal and the contact area on the bike where the filter sits should be cleaned and inspected. It's probably such common knowledge that it wasn't included, but for a noob like myself, this step is crucial. After doing an oil change a few days ago my old seal was stuck and it was overlooked. After installing the new filter I test rode it and oil gushed out and caused me to high side on a turn. Check your old filter lads.. ride safe

I agree. I use a certain foam-foil adhesive from Home Depot. I can then place the sticky part on the headers/pipes and mold the foil like a funnel. The adhesive will remove easily and it keeps the foil in place so it doesn't move if bumped. I also take off or loosen the bolt for the coolant resivour so that I have a bit more room to take out the oil filter. This way you don't burn oil on the header.

bought a 2nd hand 08 cbr 600. looked at sight glass. on kick stand and it said it was high. got the bike level the oil was way over filled. when I drained it. 1.5 liters or 1.5 quarts over filled. So check oil level with the bike LEVEL NOT ON THE KICKSTAND. and he used car engine oil . I could tell when the oil was drained to correct level clutch slipping. having the engine overfilled created fluid drag and stopped the slipping. also use alfoil to cover headers and divert oil into drain pan! so much cleaner .

Tighten the oil filter by hand its easy to over tighten it using the ratchet like he did. It should never be done like that. Also use clean oil to lube your filter gasket , It's unlikely that that would cause a problem But there's no reason not to use clean oil.

What do you recommend?

Brands aren't as important as weight. We recommend oem oil as the go to. Honda oil, HP4 or GN4

Yeah a bit of a mess but that why I cleaned the pipes with brake cleaner. I would much rather do that instead of removing them.

You can fashion a tin foil funnel to get all the oil in the pan instead of messing all the pipes.
