Today I wanted to debunk the notion that getting a 300cc motorcycle is somehow a bad thing. I hear this on and off in the community and just wanted to shed light on it. Hopefully, this is informative and enjoyable!

And then 38 years later after you’ve riden everything you find yourself throwing a leg over this with a knowing smile and the thought that the two of you are gonna get along just fine.

I've ridden the Harley sportster 883. The gold wing. First bike was the 82 honda ft500 ascot. Then a 250 ninja. Now I have the 21 cbr300r. I like the smaller bikes. They are nimble and to me a lot more fun to ride than the big bikes.

I started out on a 250 and after 17yrs of not riding I’m looking for a new bike to get a refresher course on. I’m just looking for something to ride back and forth to work on, I don’t care about going 160+ cause I enjoy my family and playing guitar, for me it’s about a sense of freedom and nature.

I always wanted a bike but the thing that finally got me to take the course and actually a bike was the release of the Grom in 2014. I’ve had a few mini motos, but they are a little too slow for a lot of roads by me. My CB300R is the perfect compromise for me.

I am a 63 year old guy who has owned and ridden in the past everything from an 80 to a 900cc sport bikes. I am not the greatest rider or most skilled but being smart served me well. I always had the most enjoyment out of the 250-400 cc sport bikes, you can get more into the throttle on them and stay safe. Just because you can get a 600-1200 cc bike from a dealer does not mean you should. Very few riders will ever be good enough to safely handle a 600-1200 cc bike and I argue that those bikes really should not be anyone's first bike. Get a smaller engine motorcycle and learn the basic's take the MSF beginning rider course and after you have at least 40 thousand miles on an under 450cc bike if you really want a bigger faster bike and you know you are a good enough rider with the riding skills to handle it then go ahead.

Excellent points. Many riders who dove head long into motorcycles didn't live to your age. Heck I'm 48 and just now considering an entry into the field.

totally agree with you on starting small. Im riding more and more on the freeway and it's making me want to upgrade to a 600. But the cbr300r is so fun even if it can't break past 100!

I’ve had my CBR250R for about three years now, and I love it. Sure, it’s not very fast and runs out of steam very quickly on the highway. But I mainly stay in the city and it gets up to 60kmh more than fast enough. I only wish I had a bigger bike on long highway rides. But even then I went from Montreal to Ottawa and back doing about 130(80mph) the whole way and the bike did just fine. Top speed on that trip was ~150. Plus I pay a lot less for my plate and insurance, and it sips fuel. Amazing commuter bike.
@jamesballard6564

Yup, insurance is a major factor. Especially for first timers. 600cc+ incurs a huge increase in premiums.

Couldn't agree more. Especially on 300's not being slow. The one and only time my cb300r feels a bit slow, is when going 80 on the highway. The rest of the time, its faster than the vast majority of cars on the road. If you're a stoplight drag person, a 300 will do just fine against your typical beater mustang or riced civic, these things launch extremely well once you get the clutch down.

Struggled between the CB300R and the CB500F. Ultimately I went with the 500 because I wanted to do some overnight trips, otherwise I would have gone with the 300 hands down. Yes, they're smaller but they're very fun, the fuel economy is amazing, and I do enjoy the sound of a thumper.

300cc is fine for most riders. 600cc is basically if you want a specific engine sound found within that class, and more (illegal) top speed.

Adding a 250 repsol I just found with low miles and excellent shape and an actual repsol not a dealer converted. I think it’s gonna be fun around the back roads I’m going to help it some with aftermarket goodies but I’m not looking for blazing speed as much as off the line grunt

Had a Ninja 250 for 3 days. It was stolen, gas tank stabbed, and dumped in the ditch. I replaced it with the first of 6 lieter bikes. An 02 GSX-R 1000r, to a Ninja ZX10r, to four CBR 1000rr Fireblades. ALL of the latter tuned and moded

Lol I told my wife I was getting a 600 for my first bike because it was 75 a year for insurance and I would save so much money on gas driving to work 😈 she said yes to me getting it then one day saw how I ride and I was in the dog house for a couple days. Wouldn’t have started differently personally.

I started in a 696cc Ducati then Got a 900cc but then some guy needed a cash n sold me a Honda CBR 300cc, same one you drive in the video. I must say its my favorite. For city Driving lighter,more nimble, easy to repair enough speed for city limits (still have the 696 n 900) but drive the 300 more.

Got mine with the mindset that I would change it for a 650 later on for freeway riding but I kept up with traffic nicely when I went for my final road test. I might bump up to a ninja 400 but I don't see the use of anything bigger for my general use and the fact I never really go on the freeway...

Traded my 900cc sport bike and got a cb300r … people like huh but once you go fast it’s over you did it got the t shirt nothing beats WOT on a super light bike day in day out. You get your moneys worth and you dont have to worry as much about “all” the things that go along with a higher power bike. If you never have ridden a big bike I get it, you wanna know what it feels like but I’m pretty sure somewhere down the line you’ll downsize. It’s just not all that riding what is the least stressful is where all the bliss is at. Ride safe all you guys on whatever size motorcycle you want

It may be a "beginner bike," but small bikes are just as fun for experienced riders. Half of the 15 street bikes I've owned were 1000cc or larger, but I just bought the 2023 model of this little Honda. I guess I'm doing things backwards, because the bike I first learned on was my dad's KZ1000. heh. :) Bottom line: ride the bike you like to ride.

Shoot, my little Honda ADV150 can easily put me out in front of traffic. I can cruise comfortably in town and in the country while still being able to distance myself from vehicles all while getting 140mpg!!!
@natvega1
@natvega1 9 ай бұрын
Any problems would be from the riders weight, the bike will reflect more wear if you weigh more then 140lbs, and you won't get smooth high speed at 91mph unless your small. Big people who try to lose weight so they can ride an ecomonical bike usually end up with bone desity that actually makes them weigh more, this bike is for small people and it doesn't need more then 1/4 throddle to get to 91mph, but if your heavy you'll full throddle and only get about 70mph. A good first bike for anyone over 140lbs would be 600cc the crankshaft won't suffer from wind resistance.😮

Cool Video exactly you dont need something super fast/ these days in that price range all that is offered are sports bikes to commute weather they are the cbr300r or the cb300r which is sporty looking to, there is nothing else in that price range besides low displacement scooters, which are not a bad thing, it all depend on where you live, there are not many cruiser style or even standard style bikes in this category anymore, the Vstar 250 is one, i would like that one, but i Live in high altitude, i knew someone who had that and it for him at would not reach highway speed up here. wish there were more standard style bikes out there, instead of all these batman looking things, im young not old by the way, guess i will look into Royal Enfield

2022 model has an LCD dash and those things are ugly af. My XSR125 has the prettiest TFT dash of all is why it's acceptable. Bikes should have analogue speedos, progress isn't always better, especially when it is this ugly, and this goes for modern bike looks as well. But what do you expect from the Japanese, they love their tech, in this case though tech sucks.
