In this weeks Sedlak Offroad School Enduro bike review we are testing BOTH the Honda CRF 450 L and the Yamha WR 450. After a good day out on the Enduro trails of San Diego we give you our opinion on what dual sport bike we prefer and why.

I went with Honda for the rebuild factor. I’ve been riding Yamaha for years love the yz 250t but the crf450lx is a weapon. I don’t regret my decision

how can you compare the bikes without putting the same tires on both bikes? Seems like a fundamental step required

Both tires are similar and offer similar performance it isn't that big of a deal

I have a 2005 wr 450 it's the best bike I have ever owned and I have owned a lot of bikes from Maico to Bultaco, honda and suzuki.

I ride my WR in mexico no problem, cops pull me over by no wearing license plate just a 4dlls monthly permit but still no problem.

How much do you have to spend on maintenance on the WR450F vs the CRF450L? I was going to go with the WR450F as my daily (at least 5 hours every day) for commuting and doordash deliveries but need to know how often I'll need to do rebuilds and valves and all that jazz? Does one last longer than the other or easier to maintain for street only use?

Bro every 150 hours maximum you need a head rebuild. I think the crf is better and more reliable.

How does the the crf compare to the Yamaha and you say the tires are bad? You can't review a fuel injected bike and say it has a carburetor..

Let me save you 5 minutes of your time. The video says the Honda if you want to license it for road use. The WR is better off road. The reviewer says you need to remove a throttle stop in the carb. That is incorrect. The 2012+ WRs are fuel injected. For better off road performance you need to replace the stock WR ECM with the off road version. Source: I owned a 2012 WR450F and now ride a YZ450FX.

No there's a throttle stop. U can pull it out and cut it shorter bro people do it whilst "uncorking" thier bike.

It's not a fair comparison here in Canada. You can't road legal a new WR 450 here in British Columbia. That's why the CRF 450l is the way to go.

How does the throttle control compare? I have watched reviews saying the Honda throttle is "off or on" snatchy. Is the Yamaha the same?

Pretty much all Japanese 450s will have that snatchy power - especially right before you hit the mid-range! 🤘🇺🇸 That'swhy it'sso fun! Haha Seriously though, most purchase a throttle tamer and/or aftermarket ignition and ECU performance packages through Athena GET or Twisted Development Vortex, just to lay down two of the greatest examples I could think of...

@@jonathondavis170 My WR250R throttle is snatchy. It makes it more difficult to ride on tight trails and annoying on regular rides. It's either accelerating or slowing down. I like the easy starting of fuel injection but carb bikes are much more enjoyable on the trail. I am going to order a throttle tamer and see if that helps.

The Yamaha is brutal and the airbox intake is very nousy. Quality is excellent but that brutal power is unpleasant

Hell yeah I love yamaha! Dudes don't even care if their dual sport is street legal . I mean the cr450l has nothing to do with the torqy cr450 engine . Yamaha on the otherside nailed it with adding to the yz450f a headlight

lol nothing to do with the crf450r engine, its the exact same engine just tuned down, and made street legal. all you need is an exhaust and tunor, i think you should go watch cole seelys ( a professional ama sx and mx rider for 11 years if you didnt know) videos about his 450l

This comparison is a joke. Where is the “dual” part? Honda has to upgrade the tires for offroad. Yamaha has to upgrade what for on road?

Depends on where you live and try to register the Yamaha. In Australia it’s ready to get plated off the showroom floor, if you live in California you won’t be able to register it no matter what you do to it. You are able to get it plated in other States in the US.

You need to be comparing the Yamaha to the Honda crf450x big guy. The Yamaha is an offroad racer as is the Honda crf450X. The Honda is a dual sport as the Yamaha is NOT. So you really can't put them in the same class Turkey.

No point making a comparison between these bikes if you're not running the same tires for a start. To call the 450 L a street bike just because it doesn't have full dirt knobbies on it is just absurd. Nobody would buy that bike as a commuter

So the wr450 has been around since 98?? And has had 22 years to define and iron out kinks... Yet it is alot more hassle getting it fully road legal, it is a 5 speed gear box, and is high maintenance, and is track focused. Now honda's brand new not 22 odd years to perfect there bike like the yamaha. There new 450L is 32,000 kilometers before main rebuild. It has a 6 speed gear box. And very good quality suspension front and rear. The honda is miles ahead in versatility and design. And you actually think the factory tires are worth mentioning? Mate you have missed the point completely and have not mentioned honda's best features. Fucking useless presenter.

You can not be more wrong :-D Yes, WR starts as a line in 98 but it was a completely different machine from now, not even a screw in common, just read some bike history and you will see. Yes, it has 5-speed gear box but it is WIDE ratio, opposite to 6-speed CLOSE ratio of Honda. This means 6th gear of CRF is almost the same as 5th gear ot WR (0.793 vs 0.840) Maintenance, according to official manuals, once again leaves the CRF in the dirt - every 1000km oil change at CRF vs every 2000km at WR. The suspension of WR is almost race ready fully adjustable Kayaba and CRF need some improvements to their Showa. The design - it is personal, but for me WR, again, is miles ahead. And one more thing - WR is almost 10kg lighter... How can you see CRF as a winner??

If you're riding more on paved the Honda, if you are more on dirt go with the Yamaha. I ride a wr450f I have legalized it, and it will break 100 but feels relatively light it's not the most planted at those speeds.
