Thanks you for your comments! I do my best to keep up with them for the first few days after a video comes out, but due to the volume of comments on all of my videos, and to the general hustle and bustle of life, I must give up the fight after a while. If you are leaving a question four or more days after a video comes out I can't guarantee I'll see it, but perhaps one of my other viewers knows the answer and can help out. Thanks in advance to those who contribute and share their knowledge. Cheers and stay safe everyone!

Yep, it's a well engineered bike and a little fiddling didn't upset it. Honda's Thai bikes are around this height so it's probably designed to handle a range of geometries.

I just lowered my T7 World raid with lowering links, I'm so pleased that I did it, it's really boosted my confidence at low speeds and at standstill, the handling and riding position is the same and the bike feels much lighter and more manageable. I lowered it 40mm on the links and 18mm on the forks, I left the pre load the same but will have the option now to wind it up a bit if I load it up with panniers. The bike now feels great. I'm 6.1" so not short but it's made a huge difference.

As a 6.4, I always wondered why they make adventure bikes for tall people but include suspension that is too weak to support tall people properly. And vice versa is true for shorter people.

Honda seems to confuse. They have a shorter version already, the Thailand version. If they bring that over as a 3rd option and stiffen the suspension for standard version to support tall folks, that would cover all walks of life.

Yamaha is confused, too. The XT250 is the perfect modern (EFI) adventure bike for shorter riders or those who simply prefer to use their feet in obstacles but comes with the crappiest suspension.

I’m 5’5” and I lowered my seat about 1” and it was enough for me. Made a massive difference. I’m not doing a link as I do a lot of high speed street riding and it’s not worth the issues you can have when doing so. I’m not 100% set on not doing it but I’ve heard nothing but negative reviews from pros about doing it.

I’m 67 years old and back in the 70’s , motocross or trail motorcycles were much lower than they are today and we used to jumps those motorcycles ,take the woops just as well, maybe not as fast as today’s bike but we did regardless, so in my opinion losing ground clearance over losing control of the bike because you can’t reach the ground is the choice i would make especially if it gives the rider more confidence and you are mostly going to ride in trails and not take huge jumps like the pro do … thanks for your video it was very informative 😎

This really helped. I purchased a used 300 Rally from a taller rider who had added a comfort seat....making it an inch taller yet. I am 5'3" its fair to say the 4-hour ride home was challenging. My toes 'just' scrapped the ground with the bike upright....unfortunately once I veered off the freeway towards home, I dropped the bike at my first red light in traffic (whoops!) I did not get my hip twisted and foot planted for the stop. Luckily I had some friendly motorist leap to the rescue and help me back up...I rode off with much to think about, some bruises and a lil embarrassed. After that experience, I'm keen to start making some mods to lower it for my short-ass legs..!

sigh... so I just walked away from my 300L preorder :( at 5'6" 125lb, the 300L felt absolutely GARGANTUAN to me. not only the height of the bike, but the width as well. the whole package just felt massive. put a leg over a klx230, and an xt250 - and these were pretty much the only two dual sports (haven't found a tw200 to sit on yet) that felt even remotely size appropriate for me... so the dream of the 300L is pretty much dead now. i'm back on the waitlist for the 300LS, but i imagine it's going to be the same deal - just shorter lol. just feels like such a huge bike. 9 months on the waitlist just to walk, shucks. still enjoying my surron though!! maybe i should be looking at the ultra bee, if they ever bring that to the US...

Taken delivery of a 300 Rally today here in New Zealand. I am 5'7" and have a 29" inseam crotch to floor so I found the Rally hard to mount due to how high it is before you can get some weight onboard vertically downward to make the squishy suspension sit down to its natural height and then once mounted I am tippy toes. I can manage using the bike this way for 80% of road situations and you simply plan the remaining 20% to keep safe. However it does not make the use of the bike pleasant and having to worry about how you may deal with certain destinations or stops, which side of the bike the road may be lower, thinking ahead of time, I don't want it like this. Thick boots help, but I am getting a "seat concepts" seat and will keep the original for future resale, also going to try the Koubalink. This should be enough as per the above video.

I have a 30” inseam, and my Tenere 700 was just too tall for my comfort. I bought adjustable lowering links from Soupy’s and adjustable kickstand from T-Rex. Now I can plant my feet. I also adjusted the forks for lower suspension and torqued everything. My Yamaha dealer is making fine tune safety check as I write this. ADV bikes are tall and top heavy. I may also get a smaller ADV or dual sport for local rides off-tarmac. Yamaha XT250 has the lowest seat if that is a concern for shorter riders.

I believe from researching on you tube ect ,that installing rally raid ect suspension upgrades will increase the seat height even more . Just a thought for shorter lighter riders , why not buy a couple of heavy shot put balls ..Mount them in a container on rear rack …this would compensate for the suspension mods that have increased the seat height😊. As a prospective buyer of this bike I think it quite mad , that an average weighted rider has to spend another $1500 once purchasing the new bike …just to be able to go over a jump. Anyway hope the idea above can help someone .

Back in 1998, I use to have a 1994 Honda NX 350 Sahara, which was also my second bike ever. I'm 1640mm tall, with short to average legs, while the Sahara had an 835mm tall seat. Needless to say, on a flat pavement I could barely touch the floor with my toes on both sides, but I was determined to keep the bike. I managed to make it work most of the times, but I dropped the bike twice, once slowly getting off the sidewalk to the street and losing my balance, and another time, during a mild rain, when I stopped near the curb, on an incline, because of a stoplight. If the first time was a hard crash without witnesses, the second one was a painfully slow defeat to gravity, where I jumped from the seat and tried to catch the bike's fall, only to not being able to, with people yelling and honking horns to commemorate my shameful defeat - and that was in the asphalt. I can only imagine how hard it would be in the mud. Kudos to you and Brooke for keeping it real and keep it going. 👍🏽👍🏽

While it's normal to want to lower an off road bike, it's a good idea to improve your skills to where you can handle a high bike. I can't flat foot my enduro, 38 inches or so, and I just got used to shifting to one side and using one foot only. This technique can be used off road even on a "low side" with the back of the knee on the seat, stretching my other foot way down to the ground. Granted, the 300 is a heavy bike, but after some training, she should try it for a few weeks back "high" again.

Truth is, most folks who venture into off-road are looking to become 'trail-bosses'. Rather, it's to allow a degree of freedom of exploration and adventure on established trails that don't require masterful technique that really deserve years (lots of off-road miles) to refine... Yes, most are just the occasional week-end road warrior trying to get away from a week's worth of life in a city. 🤙

Outstanding video. Some people seem shocked that you would try it yourself but that depends on your background. If you are an office person I can understand your reservations, but no harder than changing out an engine on a 707. I like the way you focused on the results, well demonstrated by Brook. One question, has it noticeably altered the lean on the side stand to effect stability. May be worth shortening the side stand by a 1 or 2 cm (to be determined) and while you are at it weld a bigger foot on it. Thanks for posting and keep them coming.
@DifferentSpokesTV

Thanks, and it's a lot easier than changing the engine on a 707. It's a 25 minute job. You ask a great question that I should have addressed in the video. The stock sidestand was way too short in my opinion and the bike leaned too much. Lowering it actually made it better. It may be a tad too upright now and you have to be careful not to park it on a slanted surface, but it's fine in most situations.

Yeah,,,, for me, I wouldn't have bought it....or would've had it done by a shop. It's exactly what I've had to do on my '81 Yamaha XS1100.... they were made for "BIG, TALL" Guys,,, I'm only 5'10", so, when I got the bike, I sat on it and was on the balls of my 2 feet. Well, the guy at my local shop , "Mike" , seen and lowered the front triple tree some 1.5 ", and bought, installed 2 rear shocks, that were about 2.25" shorter.......it made the bike look better,,, (kinda like "Chips",,,, 80's TV show). and feel so much safer, both of my feet are safely on the ground.

For those complaining why the Thai version is not brought to North America region here some facts: The crf 300 rally in Thailand has a height seat of 35.2 inches and the crf 300 in Philippines (is made in Thailand) has an height seat of 34.72 inches in Canada the height seat is 34.6 inches (880 mm). In conclusion de South East version (from Thailand) is higher than the North American one An upside world🤣

I come from a motocross background and I was wondering how to set up the rear shock with these links installed? The "sag" setting has been taken out completely and I don't know where to set the spring preload for my light weight of only 130lbs. Anyone have thoughts?

I just got my 300L Rally, and while I am 6ft tall, I have short legs at a 30 inch inseam. So the bike believe it or not is a bit tall for me. I tiptoe while on it, however I only have 50 miles on it, and I am hoping that the suspension will settle a bit more and allow me to flat foot it.

To adjust the fork legs, I'd support the bike with a stand under the skid plate and remove the front wheel. Once that's done you can adjust each fork leg one at a time. Loosen the 4 bolts and slide the fork up, then tighten and repeat the same on other side.

u can measure the lowering link from the axle nut to the seat or to any point just like checking and setting sag and preload.... but just use a measuring tape, ur s.o.l if u didnt take a measurement before the install but measure from that same point after the install and presto.... you should see that 1.75" drop difference... take care but one question is the bike powerful enough for a grown man with offroad experience but hasnt ridden in a while? ive riden but been saving for the perfect bike... looking for something supermoto or adventure-oriented... basically street legal dirtbike... amy recommendations other than the drz?

Thanks for the tip. The bike has plenty of power for me off road. On pavement it's not nearly as powerful as my Tenere but it depends what you value more. If you're mostly off roading the Rally is much lighter and better off road. The Tenere is the better all around bike but takes more skill and finesse to ride well off road. I'm also going to upgrade the suspension on the Rally as it is too bouncy and soft.

If it's like my KLX250 you can clearly see the maximum line, as the forks are machined slightly differently where they are meant to grip. Just don't go beyond that gripping area and you'll be fine. On my KLX that meant I could lower the front by just over 1".

Depends on your inseam, i once had a crf250l which altough i wasn’t flat foot it with my 31 inch inseam i had no problems handling the bike. But dont despare , if you live in US there’s a company called RaceTech suspension and they can literally lower the bike as much as you like AND made the suspension custom made for your weight and i promise you it will handle 10x better than the stock one. Standard suspension on these is really rubbish.

Fat guy with a 28" inseam here. I've been fine with cruisers and old JSM. I have lowered my vstrom 1000 with a -1" rear shock and haven't had an issue at all with it on the road. But the bike is still tippy toe for me and too heavy to learn to off road with. I also always have to add bar risers, as my arms are also short. My one question about the Rally: how is it at highway speed on hills? I mean, it ain't a liter bike, but does it hold it's speed enough that you don't get run over? I'm in Lethbridge Alberta, which means prairie highways, coulees (damn big river hills) and an hour ride to the Rockies. I'm worried that a 300 would be too small for my next bike.
@DifferentSpokesTV
@DifferentSpokesTV 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The Rally ain’t no VStrom but you can cruise at 120kph no problem. Up a hill you might need to knock it down to 5th as 6th is an overdrive. It’ll get where you want and it’s an excellent bike to learn off roading on. Definitely don’t want to take the VStrom off road.

@TerenceKaplan
@TerenceKaplan 2 жыл бұрын
@@josephedwardmartinez Anything that has off road ability, or pretentions, is tall. This is to give seating (feet under you, so you can stand), ground clearance, and taller front tire. But the tricks (seat and lowering links) used here are doable on most bikes. I think the Yamaha XT250 naturally comes the lowest, but lowering the Honda CRF300L or Kawasaki KLX300 or KLX230 would bring it into similar height as the XT.
