I don't have a Honda, but I just wanted to say that I respect your kindness to share these plans for free! You've done an excellent job digitizing a very unique shape and design, and I (selfishly) wish you had a Caravan so that I could use them in my vehicle too. LOL! Well done!

Hi Amy. I’m in the process of choosing the plan for my build. Yours seems so well thought out and functional and you’ve even created and shared your templates. I especially like how one can access the Element’s side pockets and not waste that space. Every little bit helps and your plans will save me so much work and trial and error. So thank you from a 79 yr old former tent camper who will be owning a luxurious studio apt on wheels.

I was excited to download the pdf Sunday. Finished it today. Thank you so much! I would post pictures, but I’m not on Instagram. I deleted the turnbuckles in favor of a 12’ long, 1” wide webbing strap (IKEA) run through the same seat belt restraints and across the front of the shelf (guided by conduit ‘C’-clamps). Also, you introduced me to pocket hole screw construction, so I used that method to bolster the shelf and base (in addition to to top) - which made the hutch that much sturdier. Last thing for anyone considering making this would be to print-out the plans on card stock rather than lightweight paper. Anyway, thank you again for saving me so much more effort. You rock!!! ~ Don

Thank you so much Amy! I love your camper build. I had been leaning towards converting a Toyota Sienna. But the simplicity and functionality of your build has me *strongly* considering getting an Element instead and emulating your build! Your plans prove to me I could actually emulate it with my basic skills! I want to echo a sentiment I believe many others share: **Please release plans of your bed build.** That is a great design. Thanks so much for putting in the effort to showcase your build and for going the extra steps of releasing your plans! You rock Amy!

Great work Amy. Have you thought about attaching a table (with hinges) to the front of the unit. As well as working as a table, it would serve to keep your stuff in place!
@MomCat6000
@MomCat6000 4 жыл бұрын
I immediately envisioned the same when I saw that shelf top! In my version, the table leaf folds back on top of the shelf - and is a few inches shorter so it provides a lip for the small regular items that are placed on the shelving unit .... so they stay put when in transit.

SAFETYfull I am 2 years out from retirement. I spend a lot of time daydreaming of the perfect vehicle for my future life of travel and minimal living. My first thoughts were, of course, doing a build-out in a van ....but since recently acquiring a Prius, I am now considering a RAV4 Hybrid for its built-in power system & fuel savings. I really appreciate the ideas presented in this awesome video!
@SAFETYfull
@SAFETYfull 4 жыл бұрын
@@MomCat6000 That sounds like bliss. You will love retirement when it comes. Two years will fly by. Simple is usually best (and cheaper). Good to see you thinking of economy, all these additions that people put in their vans add weight and therefore fuel cost. Currently looking at ways to heat the back of the van as it is cold in the UK this time of year.
@MomCat6000
@MomCat6000 4 жыл бұрын
SAFETYfull I’ve heard if you time things out right, u can travel throughout the States staying in the 70 degree zone all year round! I currently live in the high desert Southwest where it can get really cold in the winter but further south in Arizona, the winters are mild (but the summers are brutal!) That’s one plus to driving a Hybrid vehicle- you have climate control that runs off the hybrid battery rather than the gas engine! Big Plus!! Otherwise I figured hot water bottles in a subzero sleeping bag might be a good alternative to running a heater to stay warm.

@AmyMakesStuff
@AmyMakesStuff 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Sonja! Thank you! I use some foam packaging material. It’s not totally rigid, but it was easy to cut. Even better would be to put down a really thin rug or rubber sheet over it. But the foam chunk is at least enough to make sure we don’t trip on the seat anchors.

@AmyMakesStuff
@AmyMakesStuff 3 жыл бұрын
I keep my jumper cables on the spare compartment, and I’ve had to access that before. I detach the turnbuckles for the shelf and push the whole thing towards the front of the car. Then I detach the turn buckles for the bed. Without extra stuff on the bed (just mattress and pillows) it’s light enough to lift up together with the cover to the spare compartment.
@ray32825

@@AmyMakesStuff I am going to completely do away with the donut spare and install a hitch with a 2" receiver on which I am going to attach a modified bike rack that will tilt away from the car and hold a full spare. I like your setup and I think most people have the cabinet on the driver's side and bed on the passenger's side. Are you going to install solar, a fridge, stove and sink in the future - I am sure you are going to come up with some nice modifications if you decide to do them. :)

Amy again good job. I have been out of the design world for 7 years now. Most of my design was in mastercam solids , pc based Cnc . Digitizing was just getting cheep , is there a low cost digitizer ? (I starter playing with making a PlayStation years ago a digitizer) I would like to digitize the inside of my sienna so I can get some Baltic birch laser cut into basic panel. Yes I will need to add draft in areas and I have programmed a machine to cut the draft but I’m retired and in full play mode. Would love to help some other people out like you are doing. Mechanical engineer by education, pattern maker last few years b4 retirement. The one off is no problem but the simple 2 d cad file to share would be great to share with people who need a start. Keep up great work and if you get a chance let me know.
@AmyMakesStuff
@AmyMakesStuff 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, I can't say I've really stumbled on a good digitizing method yet. I've really only been able to pull 2D contours by iteratively tracing cardboard templates (I'll try and show this in the next video). I haven't heard of any hobbyist level 3D scanner yet, so curious to hear how your PlayStation project comes along.
@richardmccombs617
@richardmccombs617 5 жыл бұрын
Yes I had skipped PlayStation to recycle bin. Realize I’m a mechanical person than a electronics. I had hoped , by now , you could get a digitizing disco ball to get a point cloud to play with. I had done some in rhino , as it handled point clouds better but digitize unit was sort of pricey. I’ll let you know if I find anything. Keep up the good work.
