The Scrap Honda GX160 engine that was left for over 7 years deserves to have some love showered on it so we buy a few new parts and give it a clean. Sharon pops in to see me as well.

I have a 25yr old honda gx 160 generator that gets used every day on a building site. These engines are bomb proof if looked after.

Hi mate ! My dad was throwing out a Honda gc 160 engine to the scrap man I stopped him and took it into my workshop, I took it apart and fitted a new fuel pump and got it working I’m only 14 and did it without any help , awesome channel !! I’m from the uk

Memory jogger. Saw the Esso / Exxon sign on the wall about a "tiger in your tank" and was immediately reminded of the song I've got a Tiger by the Tail" ( Buck Owens hit). Both the song and the ad premiered about the same time, mid 1960's not sure if it was a collaborative effort or not but the customers at the Esso station loved it. I restored one of those Space Ray/Space Beam lanterns and fitted a mini halogen bulb. It works well and is very usable. LEDs are too intense sometimes.

I installed the recoil start 180 degrees out from where you installed this. For Go-Karts, this was ideal. The original bolts were flanged and required 10mm socket. Bolt in socket, apply with fingers. The OTHER technique is to install the recoil to the fan shroud, THEN attach the recoil and shroud TO the engine as one unit. Leave the choke in the ON or halfway position for a bit.

We once stripped down a bus and found a Honda generator under a side flap. It fired up straight away and went up on ebay. We got lucky on that one.

It looked lovely after its refurbishment and all restored items either put on Facebook or ebay or carboot so other people can enjoy and use the restored pieces and means it clears space for new stuff to be refurbished again and repurposed for to be used for what their meant for

My wedding anniversary today also!. An important part that you may have discarded is the rubber ring that was still stuck to the original air filter when you took it off. Hope that helps.

Hi Martin nice clean up Clean the old air filter with compressed air and refit it Its still brand new under the foam cover Refit the plastic cover... Finish with a coat of paint I think it's a gx140 or gx120 cover or engine You never said about the stamp under the tank And it looks like a reduction drive and you will find that code stamped on side of block Vsd xxx been 15 years since I played with them. No high speed shaft .. Ideal for cultivator or homemade resin mixer Plastic pawl recoil should have been bought but modern bar type fitted and basket Just watch its clear inside as some hubs catch and wear the recoil away Intially they had plastic spacers from shroud to recoil and China copied them Some poor welded examples on market so beware the spot welds don't fail I would rotate the recoil anti clock to standard just looks wrong in current form Maybe different if fitted in a restricted area or application Nice touch about the bolts seen many people lock the engine up solid Flanged bolts would have been a nice touch if you had the proper recoil instead of modifications Money spent on them instead or rob a donor engine you have as bolts will rattle free as flanged ones have locking serations Maybe the carb needs a deep clean jets out emulsion tube blown out Maybe internal vent channels and plug removed and cleaned Honda gx are a cracking engine I am sure you had a g100 too in your bulk lot just stick it on ebay and it will sell for parts to the belle mixer boys I left the trade when ghx came out plastic rubbish unreliable in certain applications cambelts in oil etc China copies have crippled honda hence why they are reducing costs to make them competitive to buyers

Thanks for the great video, I think you and your Mrs. should be on the stage (not sweeping it up though) you are a great double act, though 35 years practise helps I suppose! Maybe you could put this unit on Ebay as there are hundreds of Honda/Chonda powered machines about. The Chinese made spare parts for these engines are as cheap as chips so that makes life a little esier. Further to this, I think you have cursed me! Halfway through watching the video I received a 'phone call from my mate asking for my help as his rotovator won't start. You only have one guess as to what type of engine is in his rotovator!!! B-)

I love my air tools, still not got a air windy gun but my prize possession air tools wise is an auld Snap-On air wrench which after a bit of a service can whip off wheel nuts pretty well, had me compressor outside today doing the tyres as my service record I maintain mentioned the last time I checked the tyres was a year ago May so spanked botty time majorly for me not doing that esp as the front tyre was down to about 10 :( I don't have a large tank but the motor is a 2.5hp, bit like me really... as I don't have a larg... think I will stop right there ;)

I'm repairing Sekonda watches at the moment, done 3 out of the 4 joblot I got for silly cheap, wearing the quite smart chrono alarm Sekonda after giving it an oil, new battery and new strap, 1 is going to Sekonda for repair and the other 2 gave to relations, got some electrics on the Reliant to sort out again /sigh Finish rewiring me Vespa hopefully tomorrow then I can start on getting it cabled up and ready to sand and paint the chafing from the seat bits and get that up the mot place then some summer time roaring round the leafy lanes ftw :)

You really need a washer + a spring washer for each one of the last three bolts you put in, or the bolts will vibrate loose the original Honda's have got them.
