Ah Drew, you got away with the "easy" fix. There is also a Spool Valve Sub-Assembly on the back-side of the engine on the passenger side that can also go bad. I will be tackling mine tomorrow for theP1009 code. I have the brake cleaner at the ready. If I have to replace one of those parts (solenoids) I will have to wait for it to arrive, or pay the dealer's inflated price. I am sticking with O.E.M. on this one!

I already did this, and i replaced the VVT solenoid, and i replace camshaft position sensor A. But a little background, originally i only had p1009 code, and the car would stalls right away everytime i went to start it. Then sometime later p0341 also came up and the car was still stalling. Then i replaced the camshaft sensor with a brand new one, and the car no longer stalls, but the p0341 code keeps coming back. P1009 is gone never to return. But p0341 keeps coming back, every third start it would return. So i cleaned this screen u showed, replaced the VVT solenoid, and p0341 still comes back. I guess my question is, if it was the timing chain, why would changing the camshaft sensor make it stop stalling and fix the p1009 code, but not the p0341 code. Can it be a mechanical failure (timing chain) and still be affected by and electrical (sensor)

I got the p30x codes and the p1009 so I ordered a new VTC solenoid and if that doesn’t work I’ll send it in to a mechanic for the timing. Thanks!

I hope it works out for you! Normally I’m inclined to say try everything yourself, although I will warn that doing the VTEC actuator has gotten me to a near panic more than a few times, is it can be very difficult to wiggle everything around and get the sprockets back onto the cams. I would recommend watching a really good video on this topic, perhaps the one by Chris fix although he does make a couple small mistakes in his video, DO NOT USE THREAD LOCKER like he does as it will go through the oil journals of your engine and cause more drama than you can imagine, it’s a really good video. If you watch it a few times and feel confident and also have a mechanic you trust enough to pick up where you left off if you get into trouble, and you’re OK with the possibility of paying to have a full timing chain done, Considering these costs tuition for your education in auto mechanics, go for it!

@@DrewGarage so I installed the VTC valve and the CEL doesn’t flash anymore (so I’m assuming the misfire is gone) 🤞🏽

Won’t always work. Unfortunately the timing chain tensioner loses tension and it causes the chain to skip a few teeth. This was my case. Only a new timing chain and tensioner was able to fix this for me. I tried the brake cleaning on the both solenoids, didn’t work.

oh man, hopefully for me it has to be the solenoid or the screening that's clogged up and can be an easy cleaned, I have a '11 tsx wagon with the same codes.

Hopefully it is! But, if it’s the timing chain for the actuator (sprocket) it’s still not that bad

So 3/4 thru vid b4 showing vvt solenoid locale and what about valve body on back right side of head that can also cause vvt issues? Ohhhh!

I have Honda Element with a K24A2 swap. When it’s cold the engine runs rough and has random misfires; but as it warms up it goes away. What could be causing that?

Shoot I’d Shay get a freeze frame of what’s going on when it happens. There are many things that could cause that. Air/fuel comes to mind but I’m no expert in this area

Thank you very much! And that particular vehicle, the engine light never came back on. At least, if it did, it was a really long time after the video, because the car was sold shortly after, and I’m sure they would’ve reached out if something happened

Great video! I have code P1009 and 0341 on my 2007 accord 2.4 liter but mine is getting a crank no start any ideas

@@dnevek6227 exactly what @drewgarage said. Original timing chain finally went out after 297,000 miles.

​@@dnevek6227pull the intake boot off and crank with a hand covering it. If there's no vacuum you're screwed, it jumped timing. My dad's did.

Hi, I basically have the same code but for bank 2 on my 2014 Ford Mustang V6 3.7. The code is P0346. I replaced the cam sensors, the VVT solenoids, I used engine cleaners, I replaced many parts such as the injectors, spark plugs, purge valve, throttle body, two coils on cylinder 4 and 6 because of periodic misfires, etc. This code only shows when I am both driving and scanning at the same time. There are all of the characteristic symptoms yet no check engine light. I earnestly appreciate anyone who can recommend what I should do next. Thank you so much.

Yikes that’s no fun. People say the old stuff was easier but as a mechanic who has worked on 40’s stuff and 2020 stuff, modern has its advantages. Codes are one of those. Always tough with no codes. Good luck

Hi! I am fairly certain it is the Vetec Solenoid =) definitely a "gizmo" "whatsit" or "widget" haha. All kidding aside, vetec solenoid or "spool valve"
