Hello everyone! Did you know that Honda independently produces automatic transmission for its cars? They have been doing this since the 1970s. They produce not hydromechanical "transmissions", but shaft ones. Such automatic transmissions are designed almost like ordinary manual "mechanics", they do not have planetary gears. Each speed is a pair of gears. But the gears of the gears mesh with the shaft not with a clutch with a synchronizer, but with a multi-plate clutch. In addition, the Honda automatic transmission is connected to the engine using a torque converter.
Here is such a Japanese design, and it is very reliable.
By the way, Daimler engineers were inspired by the idea of Honda. They created automatic transmissions for the A-Class and Vaneo, similar to the Japanese transmission. This German gearbox we have already disassembled.
