The Honda NC 750 X and NC750 S are bikes that often get overlooked here in North America. I attend Honda's Demo Day to find out if there is a reason. These two bikes are under 9k and 8k, and have a tonne of options. Any idea on why they haven't caught on as well as they have overseas?

I sold my Harley dresser this spring and bought a brand new NC750X. It is brilliant. The upside of this model not selling well in Canada is that I was able to negotiate a great deal on a 2014 model. I think one of the reasons it doesn't sell as well here in Canada as it should is that people like you keep calling it a beginner bike. In fact, it is far more than that. This bike will keep even very experienced riders like me (been riding 36 years so far) very happy. One last comment:sixthisoverdrive, I agree that it rides somewhat like a cruiser, but not because it's v-twin because it isn't. What it is is a parallel twin. It does, however, have the same sort of low and midrange torque as a large v-twin. For most of us that results in a bike that is far more usable than one with a high-horsepower, high-rpm motor.

I have a 2013 NC700X and absolutely love it. The funny thing is that those of us who have one know how awesome they are. Those who don't think it's okay, but don't want a good "all rounder". They want blistering speed or a cruiser. The Standard market in the USA was basically forgotten about by manufacturers and is only starting to re-emerge.

Love the way you put it. If you don't have a nc it's a crap bike until you own one the you will be hard pressed to find faults. I own 750XD and it's the best bike I have ever driven. It does not fill on type of thing completely but it covers alot and you can do alot with the bike! Love my NC! Honda power of dreams!

Interesting review. Here in UK and Europe it's not a learner bike but an economical budget commuter with the ability to go further. The CB500X is the step-up learner.

I love my nc700x! I put a skid plate on it and crash bars and a few other farcals. I took it on a 40 mile trip off road in North Central Washington US and it was great never had a problem at all. Also did a 3000 mile trip to the Grand Canyon and back and averaged 70 miles per gallon. On a 90 mile trip on a twisty two lane road at 50 miles per hour I got 90 miles to the gallon. As for comfort this thing can't be beat I road all day without a soar bum.

I get plenty of excitement with my NC700x. I will rarely go over 100mph, so it's perfect for me. It has a lot of pull. The pull is fun exiting corners cause it handles excellent. I also love the design of the bike and the engine.

My family owns a multiline bike dealership, and I've worked there for many years so I've had a chance to ride just about every bike on the planet, and out of all these bikes the NC hands down has been one of the best bikes I've ever ridden in my 20+ years of riding. Great bike!

Coming from a person who has driven plenty of bikes and you sat that! I can only agree with you! It does not fill one gap completely but it cover a few gaps! I love my NC it's in my opinion also the best bike I have ever driven! There might be adventure bike that do better on full off-road and road bikes that are better on road. But that's the thing with the nc it can do both not perfect but just enough for you to enjoy!

What makes it a starter bike ? It seems like unless it's a 1 liter motorcycle its gets classified as a starter bike. Perhaps the reason it sells so well in other countries is that they don't feel the needs to classify these types of motorcycles as starter bikes. Anyone call a Honda Civic a starter car ?
@sixthisoverdrive
@sixthisoverdrive 8 жыл бұрын
I mostly class it that way because of it's very mild powerband, the fact that you can get it in automatic, a low seat height, very neutral and light handling, and that in Europe it fits in their beginner category. All I'm saying is that if you are a beginning rider, this bike from my experience is about as easy to ride as anything on the market above a scooter.

First off, really enjoyed the review. Nicely done. I think you nailed it when you said the reason it isn't selling well in the U.S. and here in Canada is that we expect more from a big bike. I took an NC 700 X for a test ride and found it to be as exciting as a ride on lawn mower. Good looking bike, but to me gutless. I do understand it's got a more linear powerband, and it would be a perfect bike for a beginner. For an experienced rider aging or simply looking for something more passive, this would be the bike. If you are wanting more performance, look elsewhere. I was really considering this bike to replace my 1984 GPz 750. The power delivery is just too peaky on my GPz. I'd prefer more midrange with the occasional all-out. I think the Versys 650, and it's 20 HP over the NC 750 X is my choice. Still. tough to beat the NC for fuel economy. That alone would make this bike worth it to some.
@sixthisoverdrive
@sixthisoverdrive 9 жыл бұрын
GPz84 Yeah, the versys should be doing better as well over here. It is a really solid choice, and really fun to drive.

My observation is that in Canada and the US we buy bikes for recreation. In most of the rest of the world, bikes are purchased as a mod of transportation vs a car or taking the train/bus. That is why this bike probably won't sell as well here, despite it being a great machine. I currently have a DR650. I am looking to upgrade to something like BWM F700/800GS, which is what I really want. Saw this at the bike show though and am giving it a good look. It had the panniers on it, crash bars, and the TKC knobby tires. I love what it does, and how great of an all round bike it is. The only thing I am not sure of is the small front tire for gravel road use. I do ride a lot of gravel on the DR, though I do not take it "off road" so much into knarly stuff. I ride alone a lot and those are my limits! A bike like this would be great for me.
@sixthisoverdrive
@sixthisoverdrive 9 жыл бұрын
Well sir...I am just on my way to trade in my Tiger 800 XC on a DR 650. The only problem with any of those bikes that do great on the highway, is that they are quite limited off road due to their heavy weight. They will do gravel all day, and even quad trails and such, but if you want to do a lot of sand, mud, jumps, or hill climbing, they need a pro to get them through it. Also, one really has to watch the bottoms of these bikes that don't have a frame below the engine, even with a skid plate. One of the best tires for bikes above the 650 range is the Heidenau Scout. Good for both on and off road. Thanks a lot for watching.

Bigdaddylove83 In my opinion, it would be about the same power, better handling, and more comfortable, with a WAY better fuel range. That is as long as you aren't talking about the v-strom 650. But against the cruiser, I think this one is a winner all the way.

Silly question but it why are you positioned towards the left of your lane?
@sixthisoverdrive
@sixthisoverdrive 9 жыл бұрын
This is the best position to be in Canada where we drive on the right. If you are coming up behind a vehicle, it is easy to see past them so you aren't just reacting to a set of lights. It also puts you in a lane dominance position. Which essentially means that vehicles merging into your lane can see you with a shoulder check or mirror check. Also, if someone is merging into your lane you have more room to warn them and manoeuvre safely before contact. Thanks for a good question.
@Quickblood1

sixthisoverdrive Sweet thanks. I live in Prince George BC. I just bought a brand new NC750x in Newfoundland through cooperation between the two Honda Dealers :) I leave in two weeks to fly to Newfoundland and ride home. Gonna be a 3 week long trip...maybe more :)

***** the trip was amazing. It took 4 weeks and 10415km to go from Cape Spear NL to Prince Rupert BC. We rode two up with all our gear and tent, sleeping bags etc. Roughly 500 lbs on the bike with me my wife and our gear. The NC ran perfectly. Stock rear tire burned up pretty quickly due to weight and hot weather. The taller wind screen I ordered from aviciouscycle.ca was sent wrong twice so I didn't have the wind screen I wanted. (Not happy with their service) we averaged about 280 km per tank. Not bad considering the weight the bike was carrying, the speed I was traveling avg 120km and that it only holds 14 liters of gas. Canada is a beautiful country and even though we took a month we missed so much. The people in Newfoundland are amazing. All the Honda dealers in Canada were fantastic with the exception of one. Thank you to Cycle North and Honda One for making this experience happen!

How can you truelly Judge a bike when all you do is ride straight ahead... Anyway, i'm looking tot buy one of these to use in belgium. Been riding a GS 500 for three years now and i'm kinda sick of it.

The goddamn antichrist I've ridden it through town quite a bit. That is actually where it shines...in town. You can usually tell pretty quick which bikes have good handling characteristics under normal use. You would need to push this bike beyond what it was intended for before you noticed any real negative traits on the handling. You will notice that of all the bikes in it's class however, it is the slowest, and lowest revving...to the point of hitting the rev limiter repeatedly on normal driving. I can tell all of that from riding straight ahead!!! lol

I didn't mean to be rude or to insult you; it's just that you have a great video with great narration but with a serious lack of twisty roads. I did hear from other people that the rev limiter kicks in quite frequently if you ride it like a conventional Twin Cillinder bike, apparently it takes some getting used to. Do you happen to have footage of the city rides on your channel?
@sixthisoverdrive
@sixthisoverdrive 9 жыл бұрын
You weren't rude man. And no...I don't have any footage in town. I was looking into one of these to see if it would be a good starter for my wife before I started the channel. It is extremely nimble, especially considering it's weight. Truthfully, where I live, there is not a tonne of twists anywhere. Sometimes, if it's not on a demo day, I will drive the bikes through town to get a feel of the handling. Honestly though, I can usually tell by an average riders abilities, if the bikes feel good or bad with breaking, turning and engine mapping. The rest I'll leave to the experts. Thanks for your comments.

Rey Rivera I believe I talk about the price, but it's kind of redundant on KZfaq, as quite frequently the price is vastly different from one country to another. As for the contact info, if you are from my neck of the woods I would be more than happy to send you to Lloydminster Honda to look at one of these bikes.

Because N America still has affordable fuel, and less congestion. For a daily rider it's tough to beat 80mpg, 8000-mile service intervals, low insurance, and legal lane-splitting. And the frunk, so I'm told! Also, the 700 version brings it into 'A2' licencing, so 19-year olds can own one (or share one with a parent).

Are the USA/Canada prices different? I rode NorCal in 2012 and the cost of a tankful in $$ was, well, weird. About $14. Which is what I paid to fill up a 125cc bike, in the UK, in about 2001. You would not believe how expensive it is to fuel up in the UK.
@sixthisoverdrive
@sixthisoverdrive 10 жыл бұрын
I have relatives in the UK, and yes, the fuel is way more there. We are about 15% higher in Canada than the US. Hard to get an exact because they price by the gallon and we price by the litre.

i can tell you why it doesn't sell here in the US. You can get a BMW F700GS for about the same price. That's why.
@sixthisoverdrive
@sixthisoverdrive 9 жыл бұрын
***** Wow!!! Not in Canada you can't! It will cost you more than two grand by the time you figure out freight, prep and taxes to get the GS. That's 20%. In the under 10k price category 2k is a lot. I have to agree though, you will get a lot more fun all around out of the gs however. They are just two completely different bikes. I think of the NC750 X as a scooter on steroids. Great gas mileage, great in town, but hit the twists and freeways, and you notice your buddies leaving you behind.

+sixthisoverdrive i was converting the price in the video to usd. NC750X is apparently $7500 and 8000 with abs. F700GS is $8900 and F650GS is $7800. Both BMWs come with ABS as standard. My point still stands, though.

Anthony Guest I have to tell this to a lot of people, but where I ride is the safest place to ride. It allows you to see atound traffic and 2-3 vehicles doen the road. It gives you the most reaction time for intersections, and is recognized as proper riding technique from the riding schools.

You are one of those charmers aren't ya. I ride about 2 feet from the Center line. It looks closer on video, and is the safest place for a bike to be. Don't believe me, then look it up in a driving manual.
