Ive had both, currently own a 2016 DCT NC750x. My 2015 CB500x when i owned it, i got 76mpg average over 3,800 miles(uk figures). Not had the Honda NC750x DCT very long, but im getting between 82-91mpg(approx 10mpg more than the CB500x). The NC750x is a much better feeling bike, the weight helps it feel very stable with a low centre of gravity. DCT gearbox makes the bike a pleasure to ride, it handles better, i felt the CB500x was wallowing in it's front suspension handling and felt a cheaper bike. I'd recommend the NC750x over the CB500x

@@chrisw4215 Agreed the 2022 looks really nice and matured platform. However, the new price is only $500 cheaper than brand new 2021 NC750X (manual) in my area. The used prices for NC700X and CB500X are very similar, even though the NC started out as a more expensive bike.

Thank you for that helpful comparison test. However, I think, with respect, you may have left out the single thing that makes it hard for me to think of giving up my NC750X: stability in strong winds. I do a lot of touring in Europe (not at the moment!) and I have found some really good bikes (like the V-Strom for instance) can be pretty scary in those strong winds on the Spanish plains (for example). I went to a faired Bandit which was great with its heavy, low down weight but I have long legs and I'm old and I couldn't put up with the cramped position. The NC is simply astonishingly stable in strong winds because of the position of the fuel tank. You would never expect it from a relatively tall bike, but it really is planted.

this is really good to know, thank you. i recently took a trip through the desert in nevada on a tiger 800 and holy $&!:)...someone i was riding with took pity on my situation and let me ride their T120. huge difference...passed over turned semi trucks...but the lower cg and maybe less surface area made a huge difference in what was probably 50 mph constant crosswinds.

@eggsandbakey1
@eggsandbakey1 Жыл бұрын
@@Sunz-me5mo I'd probably go for the T120 and if I thought I might take it on some gravel roads, put some 80/20 tires on it. I think the T120, for what I would do with it, is the most versatile, which might seem odd because the Tiger is an ADV bike...city riding, the T120. Occasional touring on the weekend or maybe a little longer trips, the T120 (more stable really, still pretty comfortable). Occasional riding on gravel back roads, 80/20 tires on the T120 and call it a day.

Very nice comparison, well done. I like both bikes as well, though at 2m/97.5kg i have to have the NC. Last year i traded my 12' NCx for a really nice 15' NC700DCT and man do i love it! There is only one drawback that i have been able to see(imho) and that is that i was able to pull better mpg's with the 700x than i can with the dct. Beside that, i enjoy everything about the dct. It handles mountain roads, logging roads, miles of gravel and chews up tarmac like there is no tomorrow! I have held off buying an ST1300 as the NC does all of that and gets better mpg. I have also held off buying a CRF300L as the NC handles all of those places that i would go and ride with it anyway... So, the NC really is an amazingly versatile bike in every way! Enjoy the many smiles per mile the two of you can Mate. Cheers! :{)

Thank you for the comparison! I had a 2019 CB500X for about a year (and 15000 km), my first bike. I left it yesterday at the dealer, who lent me a test ride bike until my new one arrives on Friday. I was looking for an upgrade, but had this impression that the NC750x wouldn't be far apart from my CB, and you confirmed it. I ended up getting a V-Strom 650 XT. There is no free lunch though. With a feather wrist, the loaner made 23km/l in my commute today, the 500 was an easy 30km/l even with a heavier wrist. The recommended oil changes (12k km vs 6k km) and spark plug replacement (2 every 24k km vs 4 every 12k km!) will also cost more. But boy does it feel different, comfort and punch wise!

I am the happy owner of an NC and apart from the seat am VERY happy with it. If I could go back in time I would buy the DCT version as it suits the engine characteristics and the sort of rides I am doing. I thought the dct would be too complicated given I live over 250km from my nearest dealer. I found out later that the whole NC range including dct is completely bulletproof and I had nothing to worry about. Hopefully my "investment" in a Shad seat will pay dividends when winter is finally over.

I hear you on that. I have a CBR500R with full bolt-ons and a tune. Despite this the bike is still a bit underwhelming in the performance department, faster than a Ninja 400 but slower than I'd like. Still, the reliability, comfort, and fuel efficiency means that I'll be keeping my CBR500R for a long time.

Might i add yet another difference that might be interesting to some: center of gravity! Due to the engine lying flat on the very low end of the NC, the center of gravity is ridiculously low which makes low speed handling in the city a breeze. Thats also the reason why, in my opinion at least, the even heavier DCT version carries its weight very easily. To me personally, being a 185cm 95kilo chunk of austrian meatball, the center of gravity + the frunk + the DCT are killer features which pushed out all other bikes that i considered.

I found the NC very dull after a couple of month, also the gearbox was very cluncky ( donn't know if I write this word correct). The 500 is a lovely bike to play with! That is what I want. I had a Benelli Imperiale before the 500 x which I bought last week. The Benelli was also a very entertaining motorcycle with excellent fuell consumption , 20 miles per liter. In september last year I made a trip to the Nurburgring from my town Zwolle in the Netherlands. It is about 320 km away. I have ridden 1500 km is three days and I enjoyed it very, very much. But the disadvantage on the highway is you can go just a little bit faster than trucks. But on the highway the fuel consumption was even better despite the higher revs! 22.5 miles per liter! But the quality of the chinese parts were not so outstanding except for the engine which I consider surprisingly good! It had 21 HP but it felt more like 30 HP, mostly I drove the engine between 2500 and 4500 revs. The red zone starts at 6000 revs. I try to keep the speed on average roads between 30 and 50 miles. If you get used to this kind of speed you feel relaxed and safe. And sometimes when you travel with a speed of 60 miles it feels fast! With faster bikes you get used to higher speeds and it can cost a lot of money with the laserguns for speed control. And with the large amount of traffic I prefer smaller roads with less traffic, driving smooth and sometimes attacking challenging curves. I am a master of the curves, that's what I like. Most riders cannot follow me on twisty roads but now I am 62 years old and try to ride more safe and keep the speed a little lower, it is still entertaining!

I also noticed that the CB500X , at least the new model, it's more customisable for off road riding/enduro riding, it has a much more variaty of accessories for it. Ien murray I do check the valve clearance usually in accordance to the shop manual or a bit sooner. My timing chain and tensioner are still the first and I only check them visually and by feel if the chain is still tight. The bike is now between 104 and 105 thousand km and is actually also still on the first clutch. Ironically I bought a new clutch, waterpump, cam chain tensioner around the 75000 km mark just in case....funny, funny, now those parts are collecting dust.......thanks Honda. ( as an excuse I need to say that I live in Central America and parts can take some time to get, therefore I took the decision to stock up ....) I do change the oil and filter anywhere between 3 and 4 thousand km and only use full synthetic oil 10w/40 At 102.000km I changed the injectors also just because I had new ones at home. Biggest flaw on this bike by far is the suspension, back shock has been replaced twice already and front fork springs are getting weaker. I do ride most of the time with my wife as a passenger. That might really take a toll on the rear suspension. Also wheel bearings have been changed twice already, both front and back. Roads here are not all paved. Air filter is charged after about six months. That's pretty much it. Safe rides 👍🏍💪

I've got a '19 model 500x and just love it's versatility. It's great on dirt roads and forestry trails. You make a point of mentioning how easy the air filter change is on the CB, I don't know how hard it is to change is on the NC, but I find the one on the CB a fiddly pain in the arse. I don't know how many bikes I've had in the past 40 years ( I've got 5 in the shed atm) but I've never had to remove the battery and then dig around for unseen screws which always drop into the nether regions of the bike. That's my only gripe, and it pales into insignificance compared to how good the bike is.

Or rather it pushes the rear down 5-6 cms for added height. So if I could change the front wheel to a 19 inch I should get 'back in balance' and possibly also get better gravel handling? Love the bike. Just wish to make this small change to it. 🛵

The answer to your question "Which is better?" depends on any definition of "better", which might reflect ones goals. I would opt for the NC750X for it's unstressed, low revving engine with plenty of low end torque (which doesn't wear you out on very long trips), it's capability to carry a pillion, it's storage trunk and the lower centre of gravity. To me these characteristics add to more versatility. As this versatility substantially contributes to my travelling goals, for me it's better. I think the NC750X is agile and nimble enough for twisty roads, even the smaller mountain roads, but a bit more difficult to handle off-road then the CB500X. However, for me, off-road handling is a minor issue. Sure, in many extra-ordinary circumstances, a low weight bike with ground clearance has significant advantages. For that reason, I love my good old Yamaha XT600E. Wished Honda would make the CB500X at least some 15 kg leighter (or more). I like the looks of the CB500X. The new 2021 version of the NC750X now has a 3 cm lower seat height (80 cm), where the CB500X continues having it's 83 cm. Thank you for your nice and informative video and best of wishes to you both.

Thanks for doing this video! I've put ~30k commuting miles on a 2015 CB500X, and have long wondered about how the NC compares. I think a slightly bigger/heavier bike would be better on the highway. I also am intrigued by the FRUNK. But surprised by the shorter range and smaller fuel tank! I get ~210-220 miles on a full tank. Also, the valve-check interval on the CB5 is 16k miles, while on the NC it's 8k if I'm not mistaken. So while it's easier to do on the NC (adjuster bolts vs. shims), you have to do it twice as often! :)

I like the twisty turnies too much to go with shaft drive, so I got a Suzuki GS 750 ES. The only 750 that could keep up with me was the Honda Interceptor or the Kawasaki GPZ Turbo.

I had the NC first and after a couple of month I found the NC very boring to ride. Now I have the new 2022 CB 500 , what a big difference! This 500 is pure fun in all kinds of driving, maybe long trips on the highway the NC maybe the King. But I prefer the 500, it is a nice piece of playing toy! The whole drive is so much more entertaining and the gearbox is very smooth to operate. The seat position is more active. My speed is mostly between 35 and 50 miles per hour. I ride country roads the most, highway driving very little. I am a fast rider by nature but I prefer safe riding, sometimes I take smaller roads with a lot of curves and than the speed can sometimes go to 90 miles per hour, even through challenging curves! I consider my CB 500 X the nicest toy I have ever owned!

Its a good comparation but i have remark on few things. First power, nc has in this moment about 8 hp more than cb 500 and its 750cc bike which makes a significant diffrence when it comes to driving. Cb is a skinny and light bike and this characteristic is something that definitely bothers when you want to drive it on a highway, wind protection is minimal and unstable. And about after market accessories, i think they are pretty much the same but slightly advantaged for nc 750 at least from mine experience. Cheers.

After a long test ride, it makes the most sense for this senior citizen. BTW the dealer ship wants $500 to adjust the valves on a CB500 and over $650 to adjust the valves on a 4 cylinder engine. PLEASE...How do you go about taking care of the chain. My past ...with ~ 200,000 miles on BMWs. I did all maintenance. I have been reading and thinking about possible chain upkeep. Seems like all one has to do is knock of the grime with a brush or old rags, then apply Maxima Chain wax. Seems like just the outside of the chain needs to have crud removed. Since it is a sealed O-Ring type chain.... makes sense that one would not want to disturb or weaken the internal lube???? YOUR Wise and and considered thoughts are MOST appreciated !!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!! I have experience with wax from years of racing bicycles. Wax was the very best solution . All others were about the same as grinding compound after a few miles.
