Showing how I repaired a non-working power sliding door on a 2005 Honda Odyssey. This repair would normally cost several hundred dollars if you purchased the OEM parts and performed the repair yourself. If you paid a shop to do it, it would probably cost close to $1000 or more (I know from experience). Save some money and do the repair yourself.

Great video! I saw the odyssey thread, but your video made a couple points clear about the tin foil testing for code and how to test the microswitch to make sure it was what failed. Saved me a ton of time and money, thanks!

Your the man bro. I love finding people on KZfaq that take the time to really go through each arduous step explaining things, saving us time and money from trying to figure things out on our own. For real, my hats off to the people that have saved me 100s of hours to do other things in my life. For instance, in just a few minutes I can see exactly what I need to do to fix my two jenky doors on this Odyssey instead of me out there with a hammer and chisel and probably eventually a sledge just to get the bottom of it. This video is awesome. But before doing ANY of this - try the following first. Click the power door switch to off (cover the red dot). Open the door MANUALLY. It'll be stiff, but you can do it. Close the door MANUALLY. Do this a couple times. Switch door back on (so you can see the red dot). Try operating the door normally (electrically) now. BINGO! Worked for me! It's been about three weeks now...

THanks so much. Have 'repaired' both our sliding doors, about 8 months apart. They both would close, and then relax and let go, allowing a lot of road noise in. All i needed to do was lube all the mechanisms. First door took me about 3 hours, the second about 1.5 hours. Zero cost. Can't believe how many odysseys this vintage out there you see with this problem.

Thanks a million Dustin. Your fix was spot on about the little blue switch being bad. We bought 10 of them on Amazon for $7. One thing we would like to add is how to do a reset when everything's done. We got ours put back together, and the door was getting absolutely no power. So we took out fuse #7 and replaced it after a few minutes. Then we turned the dash switch for the power doors OFF, then opened the door-in-question ALL the way, then turned the dash switch back ON, then went over to the door and activated it by lifting the handle, as if to close. And, viola!, it DID close -- and has been working flawlessly ever since. We can't thank you enough for saving us the $1200 the stealership wanted (and which we were never going to pay). By the way, we also cleaned the rear latch really well, like many threads suggest. Good luck all you Ody Owners!

Jules Shepard great! I’m glad you saved some money and fixed it yourself. Thanks for the note on the reset after the repair. I did the reset by clearing the codes prior to removing the latch assembly. Pulling the #7 fuse is the method of clearing the codes without getting into the diagnostic mode via the instrument cluster/trip reset button. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for sharing the video and explaining how this works from an engineering standpoint. I agree with you that the local shop will throw a bunch of parts on it and will not know exactly what’s causing the issue. 17yo minivan starting to show its age. I just replace door lock actuator on our 2008 CRV so I know how difficult it is trying to remove and install that while working around that window track. It’s a pain. BRILLIANT!!!! My symptom was that it would close, crank tight, sit for 3 or 4 seconds then uncrank a little such that the door would crack open. I was able to switch the door to 'manual' (the slide switch above the door switches on the dash). Open and close the door manually a few times from the outside. Switch back on and now it 's working again. for now, anyway. But I will bookmark this EXCELLENT video in case I need it in the future.

My mother has an 2009 Honda Odyssey that she bought second hand andthe passenger slider as not operating correctly. You can clearly tell by looking at the beige headliner that this has been a problem for some time. The headliner had signs of getting wet from the door not sealing al the way shut because whoever did close it far enough. Si i did all the steps to reset the door and it just starts working!!! This video is great! I love the speed. It only took me about an hour to make the repair and my door has been working perfectly for months now. A few minor tips: You will also need a center punch (or thick nail) and a hammer to start the drill a hole. You will need a drill bit. I don’t remember the size. At Ace Hardware look in the stainless-steel sections for screws that small.

You're a genius! Thank you for the video. Kind of entertaining to watch. Dealer cost $1900 to replace the motor, cable broke for 2014 odyssey. User error I guess. Parts is about $400. So labor cost drives it up. We're stuck with the dealer, I'm not a mechanic. Just to get an idea what is in the door panel.

Nice video 👍 Our 06 Ody keeps draining our new battery within couple of days. Pulled the #7 fuse and amp reading went from .32 to 02 ma. The wife previously mentioned that there was always an audible constants beep once the car was put into reverse or drive. Turned out to be the door alarm warning that indicated the sliding door were open and no warning in the instrument panel. I think this micro switch might be our culprit. For now I have the fuse removed, but, we lost our interior lights when doors are open, remote keyless entry, and our security. Told the wife we’ll have to deal with it until I can perform this task. Wish me luck...Once again thanks!

Great work, Dustin. I've been a Honda dealer tech since 2002, and I am impressed with your handy ability to get the job done. I have the same problem (B2038) tonight on the left side of my 2005 EX-L. I diagnosed it down to that switch and your video popped up when I searched the part number on the original switch (Matushita ABJ39242). Since the worst case scenario was $250 for a new latch, I said what the hell, and opened up the microswitch. I found a lot of powdery corrosion on the contacts inside, and packed full of grime. Gonna clean them up tonight and see if I can revive the switch.

@@rudyshoplopez7366 Jerry gave me a hint of a probability of reviving the switch. I opened the switch and noticed a bunch of black oily dirt which caused back contact. The metal parts inside of switch is stainless steel and should work if it is clean. I cleaned it very well, and put the cover back. I also used a little silicone to seal the gap on the below the cover to prevent future dirt from getting in. Reinstalled everything back. Now the door works perfectly.

Very grateful for this, BUT some caveats! I got the b2088 code and subsequently installed the original recommended switch. After the repair, my right door worked intermittently and in different fashion (when closing it took longer to do the last pull in bit), and my left door stopped working, altogether. I was not happy. Resolution: b2088 code was still showing, hence switch was still problem. It needed the arm to be bent out so it was more easily activated. Left door issue was the typical occurrence of where it needed to be reset: set dash sliding door switch to manual and then back to electronic, and press both door close buttons, or whatever the procedure is. So, I would highly recommend you get the direct replacement switch from Digikey, if you have the time. I didn't and needed to fix the issue quickly. Thank you, thank you!

Put it back light went off and door works again. 👍🏽 we’ll see how long it last but it’s working now. It’s an 2007 had it for 8 years never had this problem but thanks for the help

I followed each step here. It took me like 8 hours trial and error and it works. If you live in NYC area and you are not very handy maybe I can do it for you for few hundred bucks if I can find time. PM

Fantastic video!! If my odyssey didn’t have 215,000 on it and wasn’t all banged up, I would do this. So, for now,we will do it old school way and muscle the door open.

Hopefully everything is still working properly. Some people get lucky and resetting by pulling the fuse is a "permanent" fix. I wasn't so lucky, but am thankful that I've been able to share the repair process with people.

Dustin, thanks so much for this! My 2012 just started the infernal beeping, and Google brought me to the Odyssey forum, which brought me to search TSB 16-074 - Power Sliding Door Beeper Sounds While Driving, which brought me to you! But dayum, it's now October 29, so I have to clear my garage first to get the van in to check it out further. Here's hoping this is the problem because what should be a 3 hour job is gonna be an 8 hour job ...

Aaaas your take-apart was Most Excellent, & helped me Lots to get that B(eauty) out, here's an Add. Spring-loaded arm sticky, fails to activate upper microswitch N.O. as latch closes (should strike just short of grab-slot vertical) White wire won't connect black -stronger spring would be great, some hopes, but clean & lube while there, that alone fixed my "close, 3-second reopen"

Thank you, your video was a great help, I had code b2088 and the problem is now fixed. I'd like to add that I was able to open up the original blue micro switch and clean it out. The stainless steel arm is able to slide out and once you do that the switch pops open in the middle if you pry it gently with a small screw driver. Once its open you can easily clean the electrical contacts. Mine was caked in dirt so the contacts would barely move. I used a small needle and some brake clean spray to clean it out and then I sprayed some silicone spray to lightly lube the contacts. The micro switch parts easily clicked back together. Tested with ohm meter to verify it worked properly before putting it all back together.

Nice! I hadn’t considered attempting to fix the switch. Thanks for the technique.

This was a fantastic video! I've probably watched it a half a dozen times. Thank you so much! I was able to order an exact replacement, and got the switch swapped out pretty quick. I had to do some additional troubleshooting, and resetting to get the door to operate after I installed everything, but it has worked out. Thanks again!
