HONDA REBEL 500 + MODS!! 2YRS LATER - DO THEY LAST??

I bought my Honda Rebel brand new in 2018, not realising the many, amazing, fun kilometres ahead! I stocked up on some modifiable accessories and have been turning heads ever since. I get asked a lot on social media groups about where I purchased my gear from (and do those accessories last?) and so I made a video to help answer many of these queries.
With the exception of the Oxford Grip Warmers, I purchased all my accessories from a company in Thailand called ZeedParts (see update on this company below). I have made several bulk orders from these guys and whilst delivery can take between 10-20 days, I have never had a problem. Their products are average to good quality and have lasted me almost 2 years already.

I reently wanted to check out some other mods from ZeedParts and their wbsite seems to be down, broken or perhpas they have since, shut shop. Who knows. Therefore, I have removed all of the links from the below items because there is no point leading you to a no working business.

Very nice!! One of the best looking Rebels I've seen! I love the blacked out look. I really like the seat, pegs, and exhaust! I'm personally not much on the belly panel or headlight cowl because they make it start to look like a crotch rocket and I absolutely loathe and despise crotch rockets with every inch of my soul. I do have to admit though that this bike is able pull them off decently somehow and I probably could eventually get use to the belly panel and cowl without hating them. Overall it's a beautiful specimen and I think you've done a great job with it!!

Much love and respect to you Jesse. Thanks so much for the positive feedback. I too was not a fan of the cowl and belly panel, but over time I learned to appreciate it for what they are. The bike always turns heads and people often ask me if it was custom made, to which I reply "Sort of!?"... haha. We now also have the Yamaha Bolt (950cc) and 2 Kayo Dirtbikes, all of which needed little to no modification, so you'll be pleased to know that there are no crotch rockets anywhere in the garage now! At this rate, we're gonna need a bigger garage soon... Thanks for the support to the channel!

The Rebels are such a nice bike and you can really customize them! No need to spend big money on big brand name exhausts either. Mine was less than AU$200 and it sounds great! Enjoy your riding and I look forward to seeing how you customize yours! 🏍

@@reinblunt Going great - did my first chain clean/lube/adjustment this past weekend :) only a handful of additions and probably the way it will be - bikes running fine so far - I don't use it for long rides - just a small commute to/from work- weather has gotten abit colder but I am prepared with proper gear so all good there. thanks for asking.

Thanks for the compliment Angry Panda! It is a sick looking bike that gets lots of attention on the roads, especially from drivers at traffic lights always giving you the thumbs up! I look forward to seeing/hearing about what you do with your bike! :) The rims take a few rides to get used to, because once you put them on the bike, you block the option for the wind to travel through the wheels, so you do notice and feel any wind a lot more than usual. For me, it took a few rides for my brain to adjust and account for these new wind feels. At first, it's a bit like "Is it windier than usual today??" when it really isn't, but once you get used to the adjustment, the bike rides as it should and it looks great too. You might find that on a really windy day, that the bike might pull or sway a bit more side to side than usual, but I suppose it depends on your riding confidence and ability. I have ridden in some really windy conditions and I just had to be a bit more focused on my handling and control. Personally, I have never found it to be a major issue. I just got used to it and then learnt to adjust my riding.

I am loving your bike man! Looks absolutely awesome! I'm thinking about getting the belly panels for my 2021 Rebel 500 SE.. would you still recommend them? I can't tell in the video but does the black colour match the bike? Or does it look cheapy in person? Also, have you experienced any of the parts causing any damage/issues from (like parts being misshaped and scratching the frame or paintwork) or is everything well tailored for the rebel?

Thanks for the nice compliments A M. Yeah, the Rebel is a great bike and there are lots of mods to sexy-fi it even more that it already is. All of these add on mods that I bought were all made for the Rebel bikes and in my opinion, all the parts look and feel like part of the bike and the colours all matched up for my bike. I never looked at the bike and thought "Hmmm, that mod/add on part looks out of place or cheap." The guys at ZeedParts make some pretty good accessories for the Rebel bikes and I only ever got nice comments about the bike while riding it out on the road. In all the time that I had the parts on the bike, they never broke or cracked or caused any issues. In this video, I do talk about the headlight cover (the cowl) which was a bit loose/flimsy but I think you can buy better, stronger ones now, so that should not be an issue anymore. In 2020 they upgraded the seat and suspension and headlight. I can ride for hours and I am still very conformable. I got a 2022 it's a awesome bike and just about every way

Hey @CC LG, thanks for the love man! My helmet is the Ex-Zero Shoei in the meduim size (57-58cm) with the Barstow Classic Noise Goggles and the Freecom 4+ audio kit. Car drivers look at me at the traffic lights in a little bit of fear, you know, until I wave at them! Haha!

I can get in about 90 minutes in on my stock Rebel seat. I really wish that the speedo angle were looking at me more & that it’s blue light was brighter. The stock angle of the speedo is a victim of sun glare.

One thing I love about the Rebel is the huge array of options to customise the bike the way that you want. I did a quick KZfaq search about found this guy who completely redesigned the positioning of his speedo. It's probably not the safest place to put it, but it does show you that the speedo can be adjusted. If you are not mechanically sound, I would speak to a mechanic or someone in your circle who might know how to reposition the speedo for you so that it is more to your liking. Have you had any quality complaint's with the diablo twin pipes? Painting chipping off or anything else. I've heard some mixed reviews about em. Thanks! Awesome video, and amazing bike!

Hey @Eliel, thanks for reaching out. With so many noisier, louder exhausts on the bigger bikes out there such as Harley Davidson, the Diablo exhaust is fairly loud, but not as loud as others, so I have never received any complaints about the pipes at all. They do form a little dirt/rusting inside the pipes, which is normal wear and tear from the heating inside the exhausts, but after 2 years of having them on, they have never rusted on the outside and still look awesome! It is a great set of pipes and gives it that badass/race sound to it, turns heads all the time. I heard about the Diablo V2 which is a newer, upgraded version of the diable exhaust range, so perhaps you might want to check out some other reviews for those too as an alternate option? But as far as my pipes go, I would totally recommend them! :)

Looks good. Very smart bike, apart from that cheap, plastic fairing thing. I want to buy the 1100 and make it look like this, plus a sissy bar. No grip warmers needed in Thailand. I particularly like the foot pegs.

Either the 500 or the 1100 are a very nice bike choice @1990. We agree that the fairing is not great with these bikes, although the newer 2021 models have stronger, nicer looking fairings. Enjoy your new bike, ride safe!

Hey Franco, I bought all my accessories from ZeedParts over in Thailand, including the seat. Their website/contact details are in the description for this video. The brand of the seat that I bought from them is called MotoLordd. It looks nice on the bike and while it is a bit comfier than the standard/stock Rebel seat, I still needed to have the new MotoLordd seat foamed inside to add some extra cushioning. This is because it was comfy for only about 45 mins of riding. I have not found or heard of any seat that you can buy for the Rebel that is super comfy for more than one hours riding, so the extra foam injection really helps and I would highly recommend that whatever seat you buy, to get it injected with additional foam to help. Rein Blunt. Does your heated grips stay on even when turning of the egnition? Mine does...meaning if a kid by accident turns them on my mc will be out of battery the next day.

What brand of heated grips do you have? The Oxford ones that I use are really good and they switch off when I pull the key out of the ignition. None of the buttons on the little controller work or switch on unless the bike is switched on.

Not when wired to an ignition on fuse. If an electrician did it, get him to redo the installation properly. If you did it yourself, get it redone professionally.

Hi @Subramaya, thanks for the question. Leg/Crash guards are best suited to beginner riders. While I am sure that I still have a lot to learn, as rider who has been riding now for a couple of years, I am confident enough to be able to ride without them. Thanks for thinking about my safety though.

Hey for the seat it says the color is "Black Red" however there is no option to choose one color. Do you get two seats or do you have to add in the comments which color you want at checkout?

Hi @Jxrga. I had a quick look on their website and I can see that they only have the Black Red coloured seat available in the same seat as mine in this video. It must just mean that they do not have the all-black seat in stock. Maybe try to contact them via email (zeedparts@outlook.com) or on Whatsapp (Whatsapp: +81 648 2153) which is the most responsive two ways that I have found to get a hold of them on. They have plenty of other seat options and models on their website too, many of which come in an all-black colour. I am sure all of their seats are more or less the same but regardless of which one you purchase, you will probably have to get the inside foamed up to help make it more plump and comfortable to sit on like mine is.

How much do you weigh and how tall are you ?! #newrider and own a dirtbike but, almost time to buy my first street bike.. Been looking at the Rebel 300 and the Rebel 500.. Last thing I wanna do is buy a bike that I'm gonna outgrow and get tired of.. Feel like that could be the 300, so I'm leaning towards the 500...

You're definitely leaning in the right direction if you are thinking about the 500 over the 300. The 300 is good if you want to commute to and from the city/work and maybe pop to the shops for a coffee or bake a muffin or two every now and again. The 500 is where you want to be a total badass, have all the cars turns heads at you and dominate your rides, in the city or on the highway with ease! The Rebel is one of those bikes that you can fully customise too so you can really design it the way that you like, which is a plus. It is an easy bike to learn on. It's low to the ground so you always feel stable and the fat tyres hold onto the road really well. Once you learn how to ride street, you will have a bike that allows you to flick it around whilst still being a powerful machine! And, it also won't break your bank as it is still one of the cheaper bikes in this range. I weigh about 90kgs and am 5'7.

@@bendavis2181 Word ! Actually went to go sit on a Rebel500, it was so small and I felt cramped / crushed. Don't think I can get that one. Then I went to sit on a HondaCB300F I believe ? Something like that.. Had a more upright position, felt good. Might be leaning that way.. They also have a HondaCB650.. That I think I can grow into.. We'll see..

Don’t buy the 300. If you already have bike experience, save your money and get the 500. A lot more power

That's a great question Steve, thanks for asking. As a new rider, I was going for more of the aesthetics of it, rather than for comfort. Knowing what I know now, I would still mod the bike up, but I would also invest in better rear shocks and dampening the front. Thanks for the tips! :)

I am sure there are different reasons for different people. Why do some people like faster cars? Why do some people prefer the Winter holidays to the Summer holidays? Why do some people like jumping out of an aeroplane or cage diving with sharks? Why do some people like louder exhausts? It is such a wonderful world that we live in to be able to have so much choice! :)

Because a louder exhaust makes others more noticeable by ear you are near others, you know, for the day dreamers who make lane changes without looking. The more you make yourself seen or HEARD, the better.

Hey DCD, nope, no need to remove the wheels. The covers fit on either side of a wheel with a few bolts through the middle to keep it secure :)

@@dcd5050 The brand is called MOTOLORDD WHEEL RIM TRIMS COVERS and if you look at the links in this video description, you will see a direct link to where I purchased them from, which includes photos of the 4 plates, (2 plates per wheel) and the bolts that connect the two plates together for the front wheel and the two plates that connect to the rear wheel. the seat is the best....everything else sucks....u will understand when u try to sell it... the US version rear light is so ugly..from 1960s....check the Asian market led rear lights...

Been doing this a long time so heres some wisdom though no one listens; Do not add aftermarket parts to your bike. They are cheap and dont last. Keep higher quality stock parts. Do not change exhaust. Your bike wont run as smoothly. When you sell a modded bike, you lose twice. Once for the cost of the parts and twice because your bike is less valuable to buyers. They want a clean, stock bike.

I agree @Basil, but the sad thing is that there are not a lot of solid made options when wanting to modify the Rebel so you have to use what you can. At the time, these were the best available options for us.
