I adopted a 1982 V45 Magna in 1990 and drove her several years before selling her and buying a car. It was my first and only motorcycle. In 1991 I rode her from San Diego to the Grand Canyon, including through the Mojave Desert. I camped overnight beside the bike on the Fourth of July. It was a tough trip solo, but I did it. The heat of the black top wore out my new rear tire. Cords showing, I limped into Needles and was able to buy a new one with a harder compound that wouldn't wear out so fast in the heat. The rear brake had a problem on that trip, too, if I remember--I had to do some type of a road-side repair, I can't remember the details of right now. I made it to the Grand Canyon. I was thankful for that reliable and powerful engine getting me home in my exhausted and dehydrated condition after a couple days in the desert and 110-degree weather. Later, on a Christmas trip north from San Diego to Cambria to see my sister, I drove the Magna through snow while passing through the mountains. The Magna also took me down the Baja coast in Mexico. Mostly, though, she served as a San Diego daily commuter. No, the Magna was not comfortable on long trips, but since she was the only bike I ever owned, it's hard for me to compare. She had a very reliable engine. Now, years later, I'm thinking of buying another, if I can find a good one. I haven't ridden a motorcycle since then. If I decide to ride again, I would ride a Magna.

I'm 18 and recently got my motorcycle permit and just bought a 1987 super magna for my first bike . It's in really good condition with 26k miles for 1,000 dollars . Drove 6 hours (roundtrip) to get it but I think it was worth it.

Even in Japan, this "v45 Magna" is a maniac bike. It is one of the bikes that HONDA sometimes says, "You don't have to record popular sales. I want to make an interesting bike." I love this BIKE ♬

First off, I think your review is spot on. My '88 Super was my second bike after an '87 Honda Rebel, which was my trainer. I did a lot of research back in 2010, and the "AhHa!" moment for me was those upswept pipes. That's what sold me. Cool, baby! I wanted something with a cool factor, and the Super definitely fills that bill. First thing I did after purchase was swapping out the fork springs for Progressives and the rear shocks for a set of $600.00 Works (Ouch!). That solved my comfort problem, of which the stock Supers rightly has. I also added a home made back rest which alleviated my fear of losing my handlebar grip when accelerating. The backrest made it possible for me to go on extended trips from my home in N.J. to Tennessee's Tail of the Dragon without straining my back. My Super came cheap. The upgrades didn't, but who cares. I've thought of selling her but haven't come around yet. And with Biden's hatred for anything fossil powered I'll probably keep it as I watch the price of gas climb. I get around 36 mpg. Thing is, I don't need two bikes, and I like my Goldwing, too. What a fella to do? Stand pat, I guess. Great review, although I don't know how you Brits stay alive riding on the wrong side of those skinny roads like you do. But best of luck and stay safe y'all.

The upward pipes, full back wheel and twin brake lights makes thus the best looking rear of a bike. Loved it since I first saw it when I went for my first bike mid ‘90s

100% agree with you about the seat and pegs. I've driven one (88 model) across Europe twice and it is murder on your rear. It's just a crappy plastic seat with cheap foam in it. Mine had a rear seat with a back rest and I'd sometimes sit on that during those trips, just to alleviate the pain. But okay, it's a cruiser, not a touring bike. This bike, rather the 1988 750cc version, is my first love. I went from a crappy '05 Suzuki to this and everything, apart from the seat, felt right. Unfortunately mine does not work anymore and never quite worked right and through circumstances took over a 2010 600cc Honda Hornet which is also absolutely excellent, but it's just not the same.

Great Video, you've got me interested in a Magna. Selling a VFR 800 Fi as I'm just to big and old for it but really like the idea of a Magna now. Wouldn't say many in Ireland though, will keep the eyes peeled :)

ive always had a love for cruiser bikes, think it was growing up in the 70s and 80s and seeing them a lot.

Love to see the city that you showing. I have a 2002 Magna and I love it but if it was a shaft drive could be better lol.

Good honest review, Thanks Have got two Honda NV750's V twins a 1984 and a 1986, the 86 model has ythe identical front end to your magna , but the 84 model has dual front disks with dual piston calipers and a fork brace Both also have hydralic clutches

I've always liked the Magna. Almost bought one until I saw it was completely smashed on the side that wasn't in the pictures! But I like cruisers, and I love Honda's unique take on the classic American formula. And that V4 sounds great - no mistaking it for a Harley!

Noticed a few rusty spots, just use a rag with WD40 to rub them away, and spray all metal parts apart from brake disk with WD40 after each wash. It's up to you as it's last keeper to make sure it lives as long as possible.Thanks for sharing, it has helped me in my descion to buy one ,just as a local fart about. I had an XV535 and XV1100 before both had terribly low ranges. I might experiment with making the tank area bigger at the top of the filler neck but I prefer to use a fully faired bike for long journeys anyway. Long may you both live! 🤘👊✌️

I think it's a savage bike man! For a 1987 it's in serious nick! The seat looks very comfy, shocked to hear it's horrible! A V4 is very unique to be fair... it's just crazy to have... The MT-07 has 68 N.M at 6,500 rpm ;) Love the feel of a punchy bike! I'll say it again though man it's a gorgeous bike & I don't think there's many floating around in Ireland. *JUST TYPED IT AND YOU SAID IT* Hahaha! Yeah it's a keeper to be fair & should be passed on from generation to generation!

Impressive numbers for power and torque. I have a 97 GSXR 600. It makes just over 90 horsepower on the dyno (yes I had it on the dyno) stock and around 50+ ft lbs of torque. To see a cruiser, 10 years older, not tuned for the race track, putting out numbers so close is pretty incredible! I like the dual tail lights! 👍 Spine is a trigger word for me. I have chronic lumbar issues. Motocross has nothing to do with that!! 🤔 I bet though, the sound buys an extra 100 miles or so of comfort!!! Dude, you have 4 trash cans.....WTF is the red one for? We have typically 2 in America. One for recycle and one for the dump. Maybe California has more but the other 49 states have 1 or 2. Texas just prays and shoots guns I don't know that they could spell recycle. Still though, 4? KTM makes hydro clutches on their MX bikes and everyone says good things about them!!! Your bike has a beautiful shaft!!! 😱 That didn't even feel right typing it!! 😂😂😂😂

Just bought a 87 super magna in the uk for £2300 Pick it up next weekend when it should have a full service and mot This will be my second ever bike. Only passed my test less than 2 month ago. Will be a bit different from my cbr600 I only got to test ride it around the block but I did enjoy it. The only thing that worries me is the brakes The brakes on the cbr are really good but I know the magna is a totally different bike. The brakes work but I will have to get used to braking earlier and harder. I hardly have to pull the lever on the cbr. I do love older vehicles. I’ve had a few classic cars so if I can get used to their quirks I’m sure I can get used to this bike. I really love the looks of this bike and have always wanted a cruiser Can’t wait to get it out on the road I fancy adding a screen, crash bars and highway pegs but have no idea where I could get some to fit this bike.

Super interesting video I didn't really know anything about the Magna , I'm a Honda X4 1300 fan had mine for 19 years a few months ago i traded it in it was minted I instantly regretted it, don't get me wrong I love the Yamaha XSR 900 I traded it for its mental and great fun....so now my bikes are Africa Twin DCT Yamaha XSR 900 and Benelli TNT 125 for fun.

Hey man love the video, glad to see you have an ocean blue one, better than the red. Not many of these around like you said, rare. I have an 87 one in pretty mint condition, has 4500 dry miles on her. I consider selling but like you it's hard to sell. If someone has the right offer maybe they can persuade me. The other thing about these bikes is they can make you money. Clothes boutiques will hire them to put in a shop or window display, so you can get a bit of rent for them, makes an even better investment. I agree with you, the price will just rise over time. Over the years I've owned 13 v four bikes. Most of them were Honda V65's. One 750 magna. And four Vmax's.

Cool video..in my opinion bikes like this have a certain brutish charm to them🤔..the brother used to have a 900 eliminator kwak,it was the same.💪

I bought my Magna new out of the crate. And I disagree with its being uncomfortable. With a bad back I find it is very comfortable. I have front pegs added. With highway pegs this bike gives you 3 positions to ride in. Laying back feet on front highway pegs, sitting up straight feet on normal, and dropping the rear passenger pegs and putting feet on them allows you to lean forward and releaves back because it lets you lean forward like a crotch rocket style bike.. Try it and see.. On long rides I position a bag behind me to lay back on and attach two large leather straps to the bars and ride it like a horse with Raines on cruse control. I also have 2 camera bags that I use that fit perfectly below my thighs and give me saddle bags. I love my two v45s. Both in red!

On the suspension being too stiff, is that something you could use a lighter oil in, or a progressive type spring?

I almost had a V65, but couldn't ever get a response out of the seller. I actually like the look of the seat... lol

I have a 97 and I put a mustang seat on and the only complaint is the fuel tank. It's way too small. When running a 100 mile trip it goes on reserve at about 98 miles. Need a 4.5 gallon tank so you don't have to stop so much. Other than that it"s a good bike.

I rode a 1987 Super Magna from Florida to Abilene Texas and back, 27 years ago.Roughly 2100 miles! It was not a comfortable bike but not the worst either. I was 20 years old and could take the punishment!!

You mentioned comfort. Is it comfortable enough for a few hours spin ? I'm planning to look at one and also a V65. But a lot of people say the V65 isn't the most comfortable long distant. The super magna definitely a better looking bike.

Do i great job on a cafe racer ... or maybe a bobber (keep the rear ) suspension ... or Corbin or Seargent seats ith the cheapest I want the Magna cuz i will fix the brakes and other limitations.

The issues i have with the brakes on this bike is that the front brakes come in really late; the first part of the lever does brake, but the real stopping power is in the last bit of squeeze. The pro about this bike for me: this thing is litterally able to FLY through corners, the only limit im experiencing is my own mind and the trust in the edge of my front-tyre. Comfortwise, i dont have the issue regarding my back, i get a sore ass when i ride for long trips lol.

I wonder how tall you are I am 6’ 1" tall and I feel very comfortable on my 87’ Magna. Hmmmmm? I think it’s one of the most comfy bikes ever.

What does fuel consumption look like on this motorcycle? I like Magna more and more :)

I wish i could install two brake lights and quad pipes on my 1983 magna

the same colour but the 700cc they made just after this 750 because of engine size tax in US . The 750cc is better as I ride it. Only dislikes were too bouncy front end effecting quick standing starts and acceleration all round. (had mine stiffened) very poor single front disk brakes should have bee twin disk because you cant stop aggressively enough. Engine cooling water system prone to rust eventually ruining the engine. Bike could have been physically 30% larger overall to be taken really seriously. Great bike and design, very quick

If you go into a corner too hot, you don't want good brakes, their more likely to cause a lowside skid, vague brakes will take speed off progressively and allow you to steer much like ABS. You're supposed to be watching the traffic and going with the flow.

Nice Vid - I get the same low back thing with my VN , I dont think custom seats are not designed for lanky dudes like us !

Most motorcycles bare uncomfortable over distance as most simply are only meant for middle distance at most, like 200km....... thereafter you get backpain, cramps in the legs etc etc.

I bought that bike new and still own it today with 10,000 miles on it. Your bike does not the original mirrors or seat. Just a observation.

These bikes also great for ladies because the seat is low and their feet can be well planted on the ground.
