My dad worked at a Honda dealership back in the 80's, and when the 85 Big Red's came out people were going through engines right left and centre. Because they were trying to save a buck and do the service themselves and they were putting the oil filters in backwards. Now this was before Honda stamped on the filter the direction it was supposed to go. I do my own service, and I think about my dad telling me those horror stories every time I install the filter.

Filter direction depends on the model. TRX420FA Rancher AT has a flat filter cover with an arrow pointing up. That filter goes in opposite of this one. Be careful, read your manual, replace as removed.

I just replaced 1st gear on my 2005 Foreman 500. Put it back together, worked great until it bogged. Filter was installed correctly but there was no oil coming out when running even with the filter out (initially I thought the cooler is at fault). Drained the oil and it has a strange color (brownish murky - new OEM oil). Opening it now again. Maybe I clogged something? What should I be looking for? It developed a smallk knock but worked ok. Thanks!

i have this same year Rancher. I always get my oil and filter from the dealer, 3qts of Honda GN-4 10w-30 and Honda oil filter is about $30. Install filter the same way the old one came out, its hard to mess up.

Quick question. I rebuilt the motor in a Honda rancher 420TM. I got it all back together. It started and ran but the reverse light pops between 2nd and 3rd. The neutral light pops between 3rd and 4th. Any help on why this happened

that's an expensive lesson someone learned because they put the filter in the wrong way, and then trying to force the machine to shift was just asking for trouble, I'd be more than willing to bet they wont make the same mistake again. I have always said, if you dont know the what and how ask someone. Asking and learning are always a good thing there is no shame in it

So why wouldn’t Honda be picking up this mess because it was their design see this is a thing I’m deadly said against you guys are great guys but I think companies should be responsible when they have major problems like this they do this on purpose to sell parts
