Completely agree with you about the honda switchgear - much more satisfying to use IMO than circuit pad types which can go wrong often. Varadero is a much overlooked adventure bike in favour of more fashionable gs.

@@timrains5011 yes it's getting on a bit now but at least you can look after it yourself, as with the new bikes there no chance

Good review that covers quite a lot of daily driver questions!👍 Currently I'm owning a Transalp 600v, you could call it the little sister of the 'Dero. Where there is a lot similar to the Dero, I'm very curious if the extra power and added weight is a plus or a minus compared to the TA. I've kinda out grown the TA and am looking to get something similar but with more power. Would a newer Africa Twin not out perform the Dero in any way? I'm curious of your thoughts and thinkings.. Thanks in advance!

Hi, yes I like the transalps and yes you definitely will feel a difference in the power especially two up or just at longer distance more power on tap so you can just cruise on the same gear if you want to and it will sit at high speed all day long, the dero is heavy but you only really notice when pushing it around, the Africa twin is only slightly lighter by a few lbs, and the power is almost the same. I have not ridden an Africa twin but have sat on a few and they are about the same height but feel easier because of the narrow seat, New bikes scare me with the amount of electronics and as always I have heard lots of horror stories about the failures. The dero is a reliable bike and the new versions are great I think the latest model is a 2019 model, it depends on what you are going to use it for, I use mine every day for commuting and go touring around the UK, I would never take it off road as my skill level is zero off road and it's heavy but I would probably be the same with the africa twin. It looks like a good bike and some of the guys I know like them but they always sell bikes after a couple of years so again not sure on a high mileage one with all the electrics how they age. My dero has now got 61,000 miles and apart from serviceable items never misses a beat, you get a lot of bike for your money and you can also fix a lot yourself with basic tools and skill level, like myself, hope this helps 👍

Sinterpads as long I can recall are not compatible with older models of Varadero without ABS with original brake discs. I would invest in Steelflex brake lines to improve response from brakes. Anyway on the test at 100kmh Varadero XL1000 stops at 39meters which is ok for this kind of motorcycle with no ABS.

Yes you are right, I have ebc pads and disc on mine it's an abs model, I feel the brakes feel fine with the original brake lines on I always found the braded lines a bit harsh but the last time I had those was a long way back.

Love my 09 model but with a 31 inch inseam i run the risk of dropping it every time i put my foot down. Roads with a camber or gravel at the side are especially tricky.

Yes, it does make you plan your route more, I'm always conscious of the road camber and gravel but luckily not had too many issues,

Have you ever had an issue with the rear cylinder header piper gasket? The gasket at the connection of the header pipe to the collector box?
@andyjdaviestjk
@andyjdaviestjk 4 ай бұрын
Hi luckily no, just the connection pipe to it the one everyone has hassle with, if you need to replace that one soak the header bolts in WD 40 or a good penetrating oil to get them lubricated and get a blow torch and warm them up especially if they have never been undone, always a tentative time undoing header bolts

Dumb question but how do you get on a bike with paniers have the same bike but 125xl version as I'm just doing my test again but I cant for the life of me get on with the side panier and back panier.
@andyjdaviestjk
@andyjdaviestjk Жыл бұрын
Hi, well you can leave it on the side stand and stand on the foot peg so you are higher to kick your leg over or again leave it on the side stand and slide your leg across the seat

@@elcapitanortz it should be fine but you will feel when you kick it down if it's coming loose, sometimes you just have to tighten the bracket up a bit where the bolt goes through but never had a problem on my big dero
