Reminder RE: the Hero’s Journey for all you writers out there: Luke Skywalker’s “refusal of the call,” for all that it’s held up as a good example, lasts for about two minutes of screentime. Refusal can be a good tool in the toolbox, but you shouldn’t have it dominate the story.

Ha Ha. Well said. The combat is actually pretty fun and the traversal is good when it works. I did find the world filled with things to do and liked exploring, getting treasures, doing dungeons, doing lore bits for areas (which largely were, this place got wrecked by the break), and fighting the elite/world boss monsters. Just Events and side quests were extremely limited to the town, due to how to world works. That's some writing yourself into a corner moment. Also that dialogue, that 20 hours of refusing the hero's calling was tiring. I beat it though and would recommend it if you can get it on a decent sale. 6/10

Have played the game and finished it on PS5 with doing as good as anything. Getting the Platinum was annoying, but still love the game's story. When you get further the story becomes better and even really good. I really miss Homer... Loved the ending.

You know it’s an underwhelming story when we talk about a major part of the plot in terms of how it checks one of the boxes of the hero’s journey instead of how it works within the story itself. Yeah sure, you can use the Hero’s Journey to structure your story, but if the audience can see you doing it, it’s not a good story. Also, the first time I saw the infamous “that is something I do now” scene, literally my first thought was that she’s animated like a freaking Dark Pictures Anthology character.
