Thanks for the experienced review having used the gun for several years, you've obviously put a lot of rounds through it. I've never put 3.5 inch shells in mine, i must try some. As you said can get dirty but an easy clean, and less complicated than some other semis. Overall a very nice gun with clean lines, and a durable workhorse.

Bought a second hand Maxus yesterday and found the review very helpful. I've bought the Maxus to shoot rabbit and fox so will be using 23/4inch 30g loads and 3 inch heavier loads that risk damage to my game gun. Thanks for the honest review. The safety button risk noted.

I own a maxus and will agree it gets dirty quickly but that is typical with a gas gun. I have found a kitchen sponge with the green rough texture on one side (like as scotch brite) work awesome to clean the burn marks off the cylinder. Little bite of gun cleaner on the sponge will take it all off and look brand new quickly.

Mine shoots 3.5in flawlessly. I use 3.5 inch for ducks, geese, deer, and turkey, no issues at all. I also shoot about 300 rounds of low brass 2 3/4 during dove season without any jams. The cylinder piston does look "dirty" after that many rounds but has no effect on cycling/function. The gun has been accidentally completely submerged two times as I took a dip while wadding through flooded timber duck hunting and the gun has cycled minutes after that. Obviously I gave it a good strip down cleaning after both those hunts but the gun is durable and reliable to say the least.

Yeah Gage sounds like you took it through hell and back and came out a champion! For my gun I had to change my recoil spring in mine because it had a hard time with 3 1/2 after that it helped a lot

@@reddawng43x91 I wouldn’t exactly say that but maybe it recoils less? I got the gold deer hunter and 28inch shot barrel. A few things I liked and a few I disagreed with. I like the safety weight. Super easy to get off and take a shot. The powder discharge around the mag tube is easy to get off. Hoppes with 0000 steel wool and it comes off in about 10 seconds. I’ve never had a problem shooting 3.5. I haven’t noticed my gun getting dirty quickly. I have noticed if I shoot cheap shells, it gets dirty quickly. When you showed the plug, it was in the u lock position. That could be some of the issue with the rattling. Sounds like it’s the spring anyways which rattles in almost all guns.
@TenorOutdoors3 жыл бұрын
Completely fair Addison! I just found it a bit too easy to take off which turned into a safety issue for me. For the 3.5 inch shells, my gun just always seemed to have a hard time (fully clean, although I did have the recoil spring changed which helped a bit), and when it was shot a few times it completely logged up. I will have to look at the plug and steel wool solution which could help my problem. Thanks for the helpful comment Addison!
@addisonestes12193 жыл бұрын
@@TenorOutdoors since you mentioned your gun runs dirty, check the recoil spring in the butt. It could be filthy with unspent powder. When you take it out, be very careful. It’s about 5 for long and under a LOT of tension. Clean it really well as well as the tube. I put about 10 drops of oil in there and use a .45 cal cotton bore cleaner to run it through and it runs like a champ.
