Thank you Honest Trailers for giving the REAL heroes of Pearl Harbor some spotlight. My grandfather was aboard one of those ships on battleship row and watched the U.S.S. Arizona take that shot to the powder magazine and get lifted up off the water in 2 pieces. He said it looked like God himself had punched the ship from the underside. He was part of the recovery attempt to save those trapped in the hull after it capsized and did it with a broken arm, and multiple burns. At 19 years old. Truly a different generation from today. I applaud you recognizing a few of them that were there.

Also, the Japanese never bombed any civilians, at least not intentionally. All their targets were battleships or military installations, not civilian. This 'film' demonizes them almost as bad as films from that era.

Oh BTW if you really want to see some "demonizing" of Japanese soldiers, I would advise you to go read some things called HISTORY BOOKS that fabricated blatant lies about how these angels experimented on live human beings, marched millions to starvation with their cocks cut off, massacred entire cities including women and children, and torturing Allies POWs with the most twisted ideas.

Cuban Jr played a real person, he will soon get a more historically accurate portrayal. It was very important part in history of the USA armed forces, he was only a cook, but took up an anti-aircraft gun shooting down zeros, which opened the way for black Americans to serve in roles in the armed forces other than cook. And thank you for honoring real vets, my grandfather died during the D-day invasion, Sergeant Pace, Tank leader.

I still remember when this movie came out, my mate and I saw the trailer and from memory all the trailer really highlighted (or all we paid attention to) were Kate Beckinsale and all the plane/fighter scenes. So off we went to see it pumped as all hell and what resulted? Two 12 year old dudes thinking they were going to see some sweet badass warbird fighter action and instead watching 2 hours of sappy romance drama with about 10 minutes of warbird action tacked on to the end; an accidental bro date to a chick flick. So much fail.

To be fair to Michael Bay, his films have some of the greatest sound design I've ever heard. The noises the Transformers make when they're all transformy and doing Transformative things is the best part of those movies.

2:38 that actually brings up one of the many problems of the film. If the film were to be directed by a more competent director, then it would've most likely ended looking grey and horrifying, as it should be because it's war, because it's Michael Bay, he shoots the war scenes to make them look cool and awesome and he ends up glorifying what should've been a tragic moment into a standard cool looking action scene.

The first Transformers movie was pretty sweet too, and Pain and Gain wasn't too bad. Really, Bay has potential to be pretty good, but throws it away most of the time with clichés.

Cuba Gooding Jr was the only person who played an actual hero of the Pearl Harbor attack. He played Dorie Miller, who was in the Navy and commended for his bravery. Also, that movie was TERRIBLE. I saw it in theaters (I know, I know, but I was only a teenager and was a huge history buff).

Yes, this movie did have a fictional love story with a historical back-drop. We can condemn Michael Bay all we want but somehow James Cameron gets a pass for doing the same thing with 'Titanic'?!

+Nathan Zimmerman Actually in Titanic the reason why the ship hits the iceberg is because the lookouts are too busy looking down at Jack and Rose making out after coming out of the car/sex scene and don't warn the ship in time to avoid it. That's pretty stupid, just like the Pear Harbor historical parts

I have watched both Tora Tora Tora and this piece of ****. I will admit that the attack scene in Pearl Harbor is pretty entertaining sequence of film but the movie would have made a lot more sense if the entire story had somewhat been based on reality like the two real pilot buddies. There backstories probably would have been a lot better as well. Yet, we keep remembering The Rock when it comes to Michael Bay so we watch his movies hopping for the next The Rock quality film.

+sendtherain Yes, they had a Screen Junkies show about that. But they invited people to talk about these shows. The writers of the trailers are Spencer Gilbert, Dan Murrel and Andy Signore and they work a lot on them every weak. Now compare a 2-hour-movie and a 20-hour-TV-show when you have to watch it all. analyze it, find new jokes, find scenes for your cuts and so on...

+Aussie Otaku Actually, at that time being able to swim was not required in order to be in the Navy, so them not being able to swim is justified. It was the events of Pearl Harbor that helped make being able to swim mandatory.

Pearl harbor I'm was a great romance/drama film with decent acting and we'll filmed action, it was just a god awful PEARL HARBOR movie, with more historical inaccuracies that I care to count. Still, I really enjoy pearl harbor, it's one of the few rance movies I can sit through without falling asleep.

Sigh...I can't believe this: Those two fictional male leads were actually based on REAL heroes George Welsh and Kenneth Taylor. Taylor himself called the movie "A piece of trash....Over sensationalized and distorted" in his own words. I find what the writers did really insulting and demeaning to all the soldiers that gave their lives for us, who faced danger with immense courage, and many lived through it all to share their amazing stories of bravery to the world. I admire them all so much, which hurts even more when I remember how badly the writers defiled their loyalty to our country, all for just some big cash-in for Hollywood.

I know that ww2 movies always love to have characters with wicked strong regional accents so they can really emphasize all the different types of Americans coming together. That being said, Ben Affleck’s regular vocal cadence and enunciation actually does make it pretty obvious that he is from Massachusetts. Would it really have undercut the story to just let his character be a New Englander lol? Would have let Afflek perform more naturally and would have saved us all from another movie where an American actor from one part of the country completely butchers the accent from another part. Though I gotta admit, for a guy from Boston who has heard countless actors from the South and midwest torture my ears with the way they try to drop every “r” in a word it was a little fun to watch Ben sound like a dude choking on molasses the whole movie

+koffieslikkersenior goodness gravy, let a professional answer this question. African-American sailors were restricted in what rate (i.e. "jobs") they could perform during World War II. However, gun crews, especially, anti-aircraft guns were manned by all Sailors when the ship went to general quarters. The sailor portrayed in the movie in real life was a Sailor named Dorie Miller. That gun was his battle station. He received the Navy Cross for his actions.
