I don't think it felt forced, more awkward. Picard and her husband were best friends before his death but they obviously had feelings for each other that would just be wrong given how close they were. That and the whole fraternising with the crew thing.

That's why I felt Worf worked much better on Deep Space Nine than on TNG. There we actually saw him use his skills in combat, explore his diplomat skills in bringing together Starfleet and the Klingon Empire and engaging interactions with other characters (Gen. Martok, Sisko, Jadzia, etc.). It helped that DS9 had - in my opinion - a rich cast of supporting characters that were both good and bad, so Worf's presence fit right in.

One of the most powerful. I can't imagine anybody mocking it.

It's a popular belief, but Frakes himself has denied it in interviews. He did have moderate back problems, but claims the maneuver was an acting choice.

It is also my favorite episode. It is so touching to see Picard through a new perspective. At the end I feel he is changed, he has finally lived the family life about which he wonders in some episodes.

When he plays the flute at the end.... Such a good episode.

If I recall correctly, the director of The Inner Light is the only one who directed episodes of both the original series and the Next Generation.

Did you know he did both those things because he has a bad back? Jonathan Frakes injured his back when he had a job moving furniture, and that makes standing up long times and moving in certain ways difficult for him. So they made leaning on things and sitting down with his back straight part of his character, so he could focus on acting while having some support. He is a trooper!

Jonathan Frakes is 6'4" fairly tall but not super tall. I am 6'3" and could and have done the Riker maneuver on occasion but frankly it is kind of awkward and silly. Plus most of the time it makes him look like a tool.

I had notices the Picard maneuver but not Riker. It's so obvious now!

6'4" is about 1% of men in developed countries. So, yes, I'd call that super tall. But yeah, being tall doesn't make it not look stupid.
