thats so true about him confronting and playing the role with an asian accent. its the perception. with the asian accent usually comes a character thats quiet, shy, weak, subservient. jimmys playing the asian accent with a character that has a backbone, personality, confidence. if all asian characters with accents started with that type of strong personalitied character, then people wouldnt be hesitant to do the accent. changed my opinion on that topic, thanks jimmy

@eddy963850
@eddy963850 6 жыл бұрын
I disagree. At first it kind of came off as stereotypical token Asian, but the more I watched the more I saw that he is more than just there for comedic relief, and my initial reaction was my prejudice towards the Asian accent. His portrayal is fine and he made it his own.
@mongolchiuud8931
@mongolchiuud8931 6 жыл бұрын
He can totally use a fob accent, nothing wrong with that. What I dont get is why he has to use every negative Asian stereotype for his character? My son gets called Jian Yang in school just because hes Asian.. And the character is an nerdy asian meme that does more harm to the Asian American community then good.

Who would have thought that I'd learn more about the Chinese immigrant experience from Jimmy O. Yang than anyone else in my whole life? I've been going from video to video of him and he's just great. And thank you, Fung Bros., for hosting him. I found you by looking for interviews with him, but now I want to look through your whole channel. It's not as easy as you'd think to find honest, informative discussions.

Hey, I used to watch your channel a lot in the past but had stopped watching because of all the cheesiness like upbeat music, everyone stopping and simultaneously saying the name of the dish. I started getting fed up and it felt there was no reason for me to stick around but I clicked on this video and like everything. There is a guy without any pretentiousness talking about growing up, his life and there is no loud music, and there is a food at the same time. I like this type of videos.

"Don't be afraid to disappoint your parents. That's how you pursue your dreams." I believe this isn't just limited to one specific race, this applies to anyone no matter their racial background. We all go through a time where we try to live up to certain expectations that we think matter, but sometimes, as Jimmy said, we need to pursue what really matters to us and try our best with it. Well said, Jimmy O. Yang.

I love the representation of this video because we live in a more progressive and ever-so-changing world where you can make a career out of media, comedy, artistry, or a memes account on IG for crying out loud. Let’s continue to set an example and inspire the new wave of generations that a life outside of the norm is possible. Creativity inspires growth, and growth cultivates change. Shout out to y’all for being huge influencers.

Hey, hey, don't try to spread this view so much or you'll be ruining the lives of more and more people...as it stands, the most competitive market is entertainment. It's literally built on competition. Never recommend something as risky as a creative career path. ] You need to encourage the skilled, not just anyone. Jimmy knew he was skilled. So it wasn't so much a risk as it was calculated.

Not even with just parents man. I still think about what my old Asian friends and my Asian uncles and aunts, cousins and siblings would think about me if I dropped everything to pursue music like I always wanted to. Not even to become a mainstream artist. I'd be on cloud nine just making a living off of playing music. I really gotta make that decision while I still have the chance.

The same greeting goes in Thailand “ have you eaten” it’s a way to take care of the whole community 😊🙌🏼. My dad immigrated from Thailand 50 years ago and I’m like hmmm 11 ethnicities but in layman’s terms I’m half white American and Half Thai with some Chinese and Shawn mixed in 😊🙌🏼. My children are 14 things but yeah they have my bicultural heritage. I’ve always been proud of it and gone against the grain I love hearing this conversation. It’s about acceptance and unity 🙌🏼🙌🏼😎

wow, jimmy is amazing, awesome knowledge, this guy is really commonsensical, and inspirational. thinking outside the box applies to all circumstances, even in society. go beyond what’s expected if it makes sense. he knew he had something more than just a chance, and roll the dice. i feel the same way about people in general, happiness is not a universal circumstance, that’s why most people end up where their most content, or comfortable, meaning happy. The flip side is that, some are lost in the circumstance, or might be afraid to chase the dream, so his words ring true. if you happy, don’t change it, but if your not, but your afraid to go after the happiness, then don’t be. don’t be afraid to play the piano, instead for the violin, or soccer instead of golf. what ever it is. just make sure you become capable, so you have a chance to succeed and have a back up, because like jimmy and ronnie, if comedy didn’t work out, they had great fall backs, that would still provide a great living. that’s important.
