dont get it, his stats are better in every aspect except his efficiency. And he does that on a bad Spurs Team, imagine chet at the spurs, he wouldnt even come close to his numbers. He is 19, chet is 21 and already had 1 year to train and adapt to the nba. Just pointing out the not so god aspects of his game and pingpointing 2 times where other players got steals from is hillarious. Respectfully Chet has the luxury of playing with Shai, Jalen Williams, and Dort. He has an absolutely amazing roster around him. His roster is way better than Wembanyama's. So of course, he is going to have a better season when he doesn't have to be the first option. Shai is the focus of the defense, so Chet gets free jump shots. Switch their places and Wemby would be cooking Chet.

@lalithegde843 While he has a good coach, the thunder coach is a good coach too. They are literally a top 3 seed in the west. Trust me when I say Wemby would he averaging 25 and 12 right now if he had nearly as good of a roster as Chet. I mean look at it this way. Haliburton is the more skilled point guard to Fox. Yet Fox is getting more wins and is having a better season because of those wins according to analysts. But Fox just has a great team, while haliburton doesn't have that same luxury. Teammates are the biggest reason why Chet is doing so well. I mean look at Poole. When he had Steph, Klay, and Wiggins in 2022 he was a star because he wasn't the focus of attention. But now that he is in Washington he sucks. It's because of teammates

I wouldn't call this boy a star. He's 45th in the league in scoring and 15th in rebounding. There's nothing to indicate he's a star yet. He's average. Superstars make immediate impacts on their teams. Shaq, Jordan, Lebron, all of them had an immediate impact, Shaq especially, boy was 8th in scoring and 2nd in rebounding year one and took a 21-61 team to 41-41. Lebron did the same thing at 19, he was 13th in scoring. Jordan was third in scoring year one, team's wins went up by 10. Teams might not win a championship or even make the playoffs in year one with a star, but they'll at least improve, and the Spurs right now are -125 with him on the floor and are four games worse than they were last year. He looks a hell of a lot like Porzingis.

@ko7577
@ko7577 7 ай бұрын
@@funpuns085 There's plenty of new players that could have played in 2003-2004 and even in earlier tougher generations. It's not their fault the NBA is soft and focused on big point totals, not serious competition. That doesn't mean they're not greats. It just means to see who's really a great, you have to look at their position in the current league and see who's at the top in this league. No, they might not have put up as many points back in 1990 or 2003, but that top 5-10% of the league, they're the real deal. A lot of mid-range players, yeah, they wouldn't have been mid-range 20-30 years ago. But they still would have belonged in the NBA. And then there are some things in today's NBA that make it harder for superstars to win rings consistently. Who knows if Jordan would have won all 6 of his championships if he'd played in an NBA where Lebron could go to Miami or LA at the drop of a hat. Back in Jordan's day, super teams stayed together, you didn't have a lot of big players leaving and trying to assemble super teams. That makes it harder now. I love the young players. I just wish the refs would do them justice and let them play ball.

Him and Vic is like having 2 guys who are wanting to become an electrician. Let's say for simplicity sake they both have the same skillset, and same knowhow. Both went to school to learn the basics, but one went to school in europe where thier base power supply for appliances is 220v not 110/20 like here in the States (also europe uses a different plug than we use).Also the other one is 2 years older, grew up in America and learned the "American style" of electricity, voltages and power. After "college" the older one spent an entire year not physically working on anything, but shadowing an electrician who has 20yrs experience. Not working but watching, and being taught some "trade secrets" by his "coach/trainers" and "mentors". Now it comes for both to actually start working, one has that year of watching and learning experience the other doesnt. To make it more interesting, they both start at the same Company the older one with a year of experience is paired with a "top 10" partner, a guy who is among the nations best electricians. While the other one gets partnered with a guy named Jeremy who isnt a good electrician at all and is learning to be one, in fact just last year Jeremy was actually a plumber and is making the switch to be an Electrician this year. Who will be better to start thier career as an electrician? Who is better equipped/ready to immediately be better?

Honestly Chet is such a good "rookie" because he literally had a year to learn the NBA. He didnt play, but he watched. He had a year to get to know his teammates, thier preferences, thier playstyle just by watching them. He had a year to work with NBA coaches and trainers to learn NBA defenses and offenses, he wasnt playing but I guarentee the Coaches and Trainers spent endless hours just feeding him knowledge and insight on the NBA, he had nothing but time to watch film, breakdowns and scouting reports. Victor and Chets situation is night and day. That year that Chet didnt play ended up being a blessing. He soaked up all that knowledge, watching and learning, like a rookie QB getting to sit behind a HOF qb for a year, and is putting it to practice. Although this is his 1st playing year with OKC you can see that the entire unit is cohesive together, that's because they have all been with each other for at least a year. Victor is getting to know and play with his teammates for the 1st time, he is also adjusting from FIBA basketball to NBA basketball, shit hes adjusting to living in America😂. I expect by allstar break Victor should be playing much better basketball

He's actually not. Lebron's rookie year, his team improved 18 games, he was 13th in the league in scoring, and he shot over 50% from the field. Cavs finished 9th. They were 15th the year before he got there. Same with generational players like Shaq. First year, he's 8th in scoring and 2nd in rebounds, team improved from 21-61 to 41-41. Same with Jordan, team went from 10th in their conference the year before to 7th the year after he got there, and Jordan was the 3rd leading scorer in the league. Right now, this dude is 45th in scoring and 15th in rebounding, and the Spurs are four games worse than they were this time last year. I see nothing to indicate this is going to be a storied career. He was playing in a professional league before he arrived, not amateur college basketball. What you see right now is his career. Which is why it's all NBA marketing comparing him to best of their generation players who went on to win 4-6 rings and go to championship after championship. A lot of people are imagining that, but his game tells a different story.

The reason why Wemby is getting stuffed while Chet is going ham is because Chet has a better team. Chet doesn't need to carry the team and be the #1 scoring option. He just plays to the system of basketball the OKC Thunder want to play at, and when it's time he just needs to follow Shai's lead and take over only in pivotal moments. Wemby on the other hand has Defenses keying on him, because he is the only threat on the team. The worst part is his teammates are all trying to play hero ball themselves along with him, so they never pass the ball to the open guy or make cuts when a Double comes to Wemby. His teammates are literally hanging him out to dry - it was already bad when Wemby made cuts and they never got him the ball. When they did, they got wins. Now no one on the Spurs are making those Cuts. Pops is a Hall of Fame coach, but I don't think his players are listening to him anymore.

This is ridiculous. Chet isn’t truly a rookie, he’s 21, plays next to a superstar guard and he’s lived in the United States his entire life. No culture shock, etc. to deal with. Pop hasn’t even implemented plays for Wemby. They’re just letting him get a feel for NBA play right now. He’s scoring 19 pts and 10’pts as an 19 YO. When Wemby’s 21 he’ll be complete unstoppable.

It's a catch 22 with budding superstars because as much as you want to feed him the less time there is for others to find a rythme. Victor at the least needs an outlet or a go to guy or guys to free him up a bit. Pop knows it's a crash course for Victor. Every Star takes their lumps like everyone else, & that either motivates them more or not, but it can test their metal.

@guillaumeraux 7 ай бұрын
@@ko7577 And no 7'4" player can do a full split (he does), does yoga, and has a tailor-made physical prep to last the longest. He's following Kareem's advice. The "sore hip" is just a bullshit excuse. Spurs are specialists in that, they basically invented load management. This is the perfect opportunity to rest your franchise player at the perfect time (4 days rest, one game, 6 days of rest). He was supposed to have a sore hip before the Atlanta game and still played, had a good game, and said his hip was perfectly fine after that. It's just an excuse, as the NBA does not like load management. Pretty much no player plays every game in the season anyway, especially with the Spurs franchise. Load management is normal in today's NBA, regardless of age. Only 10 in 450 NBA players play 82 games a season in today's NBA, and most of them don't play that many minutes. If there's one day in the season to rest for the Spurs, that was the most optimal one. They calculated that perfectly. You don't need to play 80+ games a season to have a long and successful career, to the contrary. Nobody does that, especially today, they know it's not optimal. Injuries are a threat for any pro player of any size, in any sport anyway. We don't have enough data with a significant sample size to have any relevant conclusion with players his size. Since there were less than 15 of them in history. He's better proportioned and physically prepared than pretty much all of them, has access to modern-day medicine and health-tracking technology, and is lighter weight and more flexible than all of them, which makes it easier on his joints.

Chet will be a very solid player for a long long time but to compare Chet to Wemby is ridiculous. Chet, who didn't play last season still got all the training, practice and team practice for a year. Also, unlike Wemby, Chet is not the main focus of the opposition. Let's wait for the full 82 game.

This is a bad take…you’re obviously not watching the wholeness of each game. Chet has way better talent around him which in turn is making life easier for him. Wemby doesn’t really have anyone to help him get in his spots or make the load offensively easier for him, beside Devin Vassel. It really doesn’t help when you don’t have top tier guards like Josh Giddy or SGA. I think with the talent that Wemby has behind him he is doing fantastic. I would take Wemby over Chet any day of the week.

The Thunder with Chet Holmgren look a lot like the 1997 Spurs with Timmy. The Spurs of today have a decent roster, but you can't compare it to the Thunders' roster. Chet has a clear advantage over Wenby in that aspect. If Wenby arrived in a team that has SGA and Giddey, he would be dominating as well because those two would create open space/easy buckets for him, which they also do for Chet. Not trying to discredit Chet but stop saying Wenby has an issue/shit is looking bad for him. Dude's almost averaging a double-double in his rookie season. He just needs time and hopefully, the chemistry with his teammates can become better. But yeah, Chet is having a better start because his entourage is a couple levels ahead of what the Spurs have to offer

Even their coach said they have no intention on competing for a chip or making the playoffs. Obviously the most efficient shot is to get it to Victor low or run pick n rolls but why would you pigeon hole a young team into a specific style of play before you’ve even had a chance to develop them and see what they are capable of? Lots of other teams found out the hard way that they already had talent they weren’t utilizing. I think that’s why they’re plays and lineups are so odd and seemingly bad. Cause they are, but what better time to test the waters than a rebuild year.

He's been playing in a professional men's league he said is tougher than the NBA. When you make a comment like that, you better do better than 45th in scoring and 15th in rebounding while leading the worst team in the NBA. People are comparing him to Lebron and Shaq and Jordan lol Those players made an immediate impact. In Lebron's first year in the league, he was the 13th leading scorer and his team went from 15th place in the east to 9th place. It was instant. Same with Shaq, he was 8th in scoring and 2nd in rebounding in year one and his team improved from 21-61 to 41-41. Generational players, players who go on to win multiple rings are players who have always had an immediate impact, whether it's big or small, there's some change in their team. I don't see that here. The Spurs are worse with him than without him, his plus-minus is -125 for the season.
