Filho once fought 100 men in 3 hours and knocked out Andy Hug, twice. Ernesto Hoost could KO people just by blocking their kicks, and did so many times. What would happen if they were to face off in the semi finals of a sudden elimination tournament?

In the Kyokushin Karate tournaments him and Hug competed in, stopping kicks with knee shields and kicks and all kinds of variations of blending them and pairing them was pretty common. Knee bars are common in Muay Thai too but usually done in a much different way that is paired with clinching. It's actually amazing so much stuff from Kyokushin worked in K1 since it's usually a disadvantage to go from a limited rules system to a system that allows for more possibilities.

The proper Portuguese pronunciation of Filho is "fil-yo", not "filo" (with a specific inflexion in the middle that has no equivalent in English). As a general rule, "ilho" (like in "maravilhosa") is pronounced "ilyo".

Dude, that tepe to counter the hook was absolute master-level skill by Filho. We don't even see those kind of counters in high-level kung-fu films by masters like Donnie Yen. That is some next level Ultra Instinct-style fighting skill right there. These guys were on a completely different level, and whenever people talk about UFC being "high level", I can only scoff when revisiting many of the legendary K1 and Pancrase fights of old.

I trained with Nicholas Pettas in 2000 when he visited the Pacific Northwest, and watched him work with Francisco Fihlo and Glaube Feitosa. I remember NP holding the Thai pads for FF, then between rounds he’d put both his forearms on a bag of ice while providing them with feedback. Insane power from all 3 of them. The good ol days for sure…. Enshin / Kyokushin and MT background here. Edit: great work and commentary! Sub’d!

That’s badass. The sheer advanced skill levels both fighters displayed looked very amazing. Although Filho was great as a technically skilled boxer, Hoost showed why he was labeled “Mr Perfect”. After seeing everything that could be thrown at him against Filho, he greatly took advantage of any openings from strikes, counters and setups, Filho would have tried against himself. If it went on longer it would have been interesting to see if Filho may have had any response to adapt to Hoost’s genius fighting IQ

Yeah sorry I had to turn off sub notifications for these kickboxing videos because the subs were telling the analytics that the videos sucked. I've tried not notifying subs twice now and the videos get a lot of views within a week once I let the algorithm figure out who likes it on its own without the subs. I have no idea why I have to do this, didn't used to. Possible there are bots or possible that my audience is too diverse in what they like. But you will see the video on your home page once it starts ramping up, right now it's gone from 100 to 2,000 views an hour over the last several hours lol I may try it with my boxing videos too, having a lot of subs is actually inhibiting at this point which is just ridiculous.
