The Muay Thai Library: / muay-thai-uncut-7058199 In the golden age of Muay Thai, Langsuan Phanyutthapum was a Muay Khao Monster, the embodiment of encroaching danger with a clinch like a venus fly trap. A forward-moving stadium terminator, fans knew him as the Heartless Knee Striker, but opponents knew him as Mr. Mean. And, no doubt, he lived up to both names.

Langsuan had insane knees, the kind that everyone does on the bag to feel cool but that almost no one can pull off in real life. Treating his competitors like a piece of gym equipment he would use them to support all of his weight, jumping up into positions that would be physically impossible under normal circumstances. All to load up his beautiful, painful knees. It’s rare a fighter can get away with loading up on their strike as much as humanly possible and get away with it.

Very cool to see that the Australian style karate i used to learn, in 1998, had many of these exact techniques. They helped bring Muay Thai to Australia.

Thanks for this, I didn't even know this guy existed. Also, body punches in Muay Thai seem infrequent (or am I wrong?) but he was working them in like it was nothing. His pace and body killing reminds me of Henry Armstrong, just in Nak Muay form.

Yeah the guys whole style was crazy. After doing this for years it's really rare I see a fighter that surprises me with their techniques. But I was randomly suggested a highlight reel of him and the second I saw the way he kneed I knew I wanted to make a video.

Nevertheless, whenever is possible, i take a couple of hours to translate or summarize your analysis and post them on our training centre Wpp group, linking what you show with what our instructor teaches us! The fully folded knee makes sense from a mechanical perspective because it minimizes the length of the leg thus reducing its rotational inertia. This means you get faster rotation with the same torque.

Bro I love that you chose Sugar Ray Leonard of all boxers. Legend and an interview he claims JKD or the notes turned into the book I think called that tao of Jeet kun do ; was instrumental in teaching him stricking.Hong Kong Western boxing champion , his discrption are very boxing friendly. The greatest American amateur boxer if all time (some believe it is Aaron Pryor) was heavily a Bruce Lee or JkD influenced style. Think of his speed and style a tribute to the Legend. JkD will not be the same in 1968 and 1970. Looking forward to video Master Wong!

I saw the Holmes/Norton fight live on TV. The 15th round of this fight was one of the greatest rounds of boxing I have ever seen. Jim Brown once said, "Fatigue makes cowards of us all." On that night, these two men pushed past human limits and gave everything they had. There were no cowards in that ring, only heroes.

Have you ever considered doing some videos with the emphasis on the martial arts themselves rather than the martial artists? I don’t know your knowledge base but there’s a lot of content to be had there, even on a superficial level to introduce people to them, and if you were able to consult with some master practitioners it could be a fantastic basic learning tool for imaginative fighters. Just an idea, looking forward to seeing you hit the milli mark Mr Christian.

Was hoping you would do a video on the long guard. I was recently reading through your book about it and at least to my knowledge I haven't seen you do a video on it. Even though I'm kind of short for my weight class I used long guard quite a bit. In your book you depict it with having one hand back I personally kind of used both hands forward I feel like I've seen Joe calzagi do that I've heard it called The mummy stance before... Regardless wanted to request a video.

So you know how in boxing they have different subtypes of boxers depending on how they fight? (Infighters, outboxers, brawlers, etc.) Same for muay thai, except they go by their preferred tactic. Muay Khao are fighters that like using their clinches and knees (Khao, meaning knee in thai).
