Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a hormonal disorder that often can affect the appearance of the skin through hormonal acne, hair growth, and more. So in this dermatologist reaction video, Susan Yara and board-certified dermatologist Dr. Sam Ellis take a look at Lala's skincare routine.
Want us to review your skincare routine? Upload a video of your skincare routine to KZfaq and make sure it’s UNLISTED so we can view it. It does not have to be public. We’ll also need a few pictures that show your skin without makeup on. Send the video link and pictures to skincare@mixedmakeup.com.

Good luck Lala. After trialling a few medications for PCOS the main ones that have helped me are Yasmin (the Pill which obviously you don't want to take right now!) and Metformin. Metformin is used for diabetics but also helps to regulate testosterone levels for PCOS sufferers. This was recommended to me by a gynaecologist who at the time (15 years ago) was researching how Metformin had helped increase fertility levels for women with PCOS. There seems to be a link between PCOS and insulin resistance. It's very interesting! I wish you well!

Hi Lala! When I saw your acne I immediately said "OMG, we actually have the same texture! Inflamed and red, scarring on the cheeks and jawline." I've already tried alot of acne products and nothing seemed to be effective. I probably have to go a dermatologist. I love how glowing your skin is now!! How many months did you actually achieve it or notice improvements on your hyperpigmentation? Thanks for answering :)

I was diagnosed with PCOS early last year and I have almost all the underlying skin problems . Hormonal acne, a super hairy face etc. I’ve been on a sturdy skin care routine and I’ve seen so much improvement. I had to make some lifestyle changes too. Its not been an easy journey .

So nice to see your perspective on Filipino skincare routines! Filipino skincare KZfaqr here 🙋‍♂️🇵🇭 Acne bar soaps are pretty common here because they're sold for very cheap. They're usually either soaps with sulfur, glycolic acid, or potassium azeloyl diglycinate. Personally not a big fan of it for the face, but just a fun fact!

I have PCOS and struggle with acne. I’m finally getting my skin under control. Birth control is the “gold standard” to “treat” PCOS, but it’s just putting a bandaid on it. Birth control is NOT a cure and many doctors are quick to prescribe it to their PCOS patients. Women with PCOS have to work and experiment with different products and routines to get any PCOS symptom under control.
@TheDecoCottage
@TheDecoCottage 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed that is a temporary band aid, especially for those that choose to have babies. You have to go off the birth control to get pregnant (and PCOS can make it harder to get pregnant because of the hormones).

I have the same issues. I think her routine needs to be looked at my a derm, her products don't seem suffient. She may need to be on a prescription retinoid and take oral spironolactone like me. But she shouldn't just create a routine randomly, I don't think it's effective.

I’m curious if anyone has had my same experience…. I was diagnosed with PCOS several years ago and was given a combination birth control. Since then I’ve noticed extreme hair loss and hair thinning. The birth control quickly fixed my acne but has anyone had hair loss from it too? Or maybe it’s unrelated?

Im in the same boat with you and Keerti. Diagnosed with PCOS at 24, was provided birth control and the cystic acne around my jawline improved with clearer skin; and hair shedding stopped, but now I have thin short hair. I used to have thick long hair. I'm just glad my skin is in great condition now. My routine is on point now 😊 Good luck to all of us!

@@SLYkutie Stacy do you have to be careful with what you eat with regards to breakouts? I’m on birth control plus an extra anti androgen as it seems I’m very sensitive to any sugar and pms and as a result needed more than the pill to control my breakouts. Despite these medicines I still breakout if I eat so much as 2 fruits a day and around my period especially around my chin/jaw.
@SLYkutie

@@keertichand6757 well, I don't notice a difference when it comes to consuming sugars. I eat fruit but sparingly. My diet is complicated since I'm a T2 diabetic and heart failure survivor, so low-sugar, low-salt everything when I can, but even that is hard in itself.

I just wish doctors would talk more about options that realllly work that are not birth control. Been there, done that. BC doesn’t solve the underlying problem. Or at least discuss with patients what birth control really does and what it looks like to get off of it. No doctor talks about getting off hormonal BC, but most people don’t want to take it for the rest of their life.

You should definitely go see a gynecologist! They should be able to check up on you and guide you on the whole process if you do end up having PCOS. If you want to know if you are likely to have it, you can also look up syptoms on google. But if you suspect you may have it, again, go see a gynecologist!! Hope this helps

@@lalatorres683 I was talking about your photo in the thumb, but rather their faces looking at your photo. Every time @susanyara does a vid like this she and the derm make a “shocked” or “disgusted” face. And I’m sure it’s to get hits, but someone on her team needs to tell her to stop this because it’s cringeworthy every time I click on one of these vids to see what the derm says (and I know everyone else is thinking the same thing). Moreover, I know the derm is not shocked; in these vids the derms are always super compassionate, but their compassion unfortunately is not reflected in the thumbnail. ❤️
