I shoot targets that are smaller than an elk at 1000 yards, but I wouldn't shoot an elk at 1000. A decent gust of wind and you have a wounded animal. Didn't show where it was hit, I'm guessing it was a bit far back for a lung shot. I could make the same shot with a Savage. :)

I know it was a crazy far shot but from a marketing standpoint I don't think I would have posted a video of an elk needing two shots and then bragging about how awesome the 7 PRC is. That's like bragging about how I have the best broadheads ever and then showing a video of a deer needing to get hit by two of them to go down. Maybe take a closer shot and go for DRT or at least a one shot kill? Either way I'm sure the 7PRC will do fine

Nice shot brother! Keep up the good work. You got a bunch of people pissed off at you on here for being able to do something they can't. Maybe if some of these people watched this video on something bigger than a phone they could see the impact. I bet half of the people on here complaining about this "not being real hunting" can't stay on target at 250 yards. The 7mm PRC is an amazing round. I watched a guy on here hit a 20 inch target with a 7mm PRC from just over 3500 yards, amazing video y'all should check it out. He might have taken 15 shots with a 10 mph to 15 mph wind change. He was within 10 inches of the target on every shot accept the first 2 or 3 shots, and those were just a little low. I was amazed at how accurate that round can be in the right hands.

Thats one sweet rifle. As a fellow LR hunter i kinda get why a lot in the comments got their panties in a bunch. We owe it to the animals to provide clean ethical kills. I love shooting steel to beyond distances like this but have made a mistake or two along the way hunting and have had to suck up my pride and do whats right. Knowing your limitations is really important. A few years back I cut my hunting distances to half that range and pretty much always get bang flops since. And wont shoot unless i know and can favour for the conditions. Personally my limit is around 600m and that’s shooting big critters with big rifles, 7s and 338s in rock steady positions. There’s a lot that can go wrong out at 1000 and beyond and it’s to hard on my conscious to risk that. I’m not a fan of the marketing buy this rifle and you can shoot animals at 1000 yards. I do love the technology and how rifles are advancing and will eventually have a 7prc but shots at those distances for me will be on steel and ill still ideally try to work within 500 regardless of what calibre, bullet setup being used. Impressive speed for that short of a barrel that is certainly one handy and capable rifle. Cheers

Exponential growth is a process that increases quantity over time. It occurs when the instantaneous rate of change (that is, the derivative) of a quantity with respect to time is proportional to the quantity itself. Described as a function, a quantity undergoing exponential growth is an exponential function of time, that is, the variable representing time is the exponent (in contrast to other types of growth, such as quadratic growth).
@The_Judge300
@The_Judge300 Жыл бұрын
@@DakotaDinwoodie You clearly are clueless about math. Exponential growth doesn't have to be related with time at all. Here is a bit you can try to understand about exponential growth: The formula for exponential growth is y=ab^x when the b is greater than 1. The value of a can never be 0 and the value of b can never be 1. When using exponential growth as a relationship using percents, we use this formula: y = a(1+r)^x, where r is the growth rate, a is the initial value and x is the exponent of the base 1 + r. If you didn't understand that, you can ask someone to dumb it down for you.

This doesn't feel right to me. If you want to demonstrate how small a target the new 7 mm PRC can hit from 1024 yards you could have used a simple steel plate to do it. There was no need to use that Elk as a marketing guinea pig. It seems like a cruel disservice to the animal. Before I start getting hate messages for voicing my opinion you should know that I am an RMEF and BHA member. I respect these animals too much to try such a long range shot like that. The worst part about it is that now every Tom, Dick and Harry (many of whom have no business shooting out that far at game) on the world wide web is going to want to go into the field and take unethical shots in copy cat fashion.
@LRRPFco52
@LRRPFco52 Жыл бұрын
Most people will be so far short of the animal at 1000yds, it won’t matter if they try. I agree most hunters should not attempt shots beyond 250-300yds, depending on what they’re shooting and how they’re zeroed. Top-tier Long-range shooters with proper training and experience regularly hit 12” plates at 800-1200yds. Middle/upper-tier LR shooters can hit a 12” plate 1st-round from 600-700yds. It really depends on training, experience, and the conditions. If the wind is at a certain speed and value, it compresses my 1st-round hit ability down to 700-800yds on 12” plates with rifles that normally are capable of 1000-1200yd 1st-round hits. You have to know your limits. I ran a private course for a hunter recently who drew a limited bull elk tag. We did a 2-day course, then a follow-up pre-hunt day of shooting from field positions at long range. He successfully took his bull at 850yds, using a Fierce 300 PRC later that following weekend. But yes, most shooters should not even think about long range shots on game without training and experience. Most do not have rifles/optics/mounts that are even capable of doing it due to reticle/turret limits, and cartridges that don’t have what it takes to get there predictably with the right bullet.
@The_Judge300
@The_Judge300 Жыл бұрын
@@LRRPFco52 You are correct when it comes to target shooting or when being a sniper shooting at an enemy. Judging the wind correctly at that distance for a good ethical first shot on an animal, is close to impossible. Shooting at an animal at that distance, has nothing to do with hunting either. This man is just using animals as his toys and to have something to brag about, and he is no hunter at all. He couldn't care less about how many animals he wounds and their suffering.

Idk man. I hit a 7x7 bull at about 100 yards double lung with a 180g 300wsm nosler accubond and it didn’t phase him. He acted like he wasn’t hit which astonished me and I had to pump another one into his shoulder to drop him. The butcher actually recovered the bullet out the far side shoulder which is pretty cool but the point is, they don’t drop so easy. I do agree with not taking a long range shot if you don’t have to, that’s what target shooting and practice is for. I’ll tell ya, those custom dials you put on your turret are accurate as hell though and has stretched my maximum distance I’ll take a shot at out to about 500.

@@dionysis84 oh they are tough critters no doubt. But there’s a difference between taking ethical shots and something going wrong vs taking unnecessary risk(long range and underpowered). The custom turrets are cool for sure, but, only as good as your load development… they are no different than a regular turret. Just a time savings from having to refer to your DOPE. If you can collect the data for custom caps you can shoot just as well of a factory cap. I like factory caps so I don’t have to commit to one specific load..

With those specs. that is a 800 yard gun max. You never exceed a 1 sec. T.O.F., at 800 yards you only have 1500 ft/lbs. at 1950 fps. which is almost to slow for that bullet to expand. That was an extreme risk, could not see where you hit the animal. This is how we get so many unclaimed animals these days. A 30-378 with a 250 grain custom hunting bullet could almost do the job at 3200 fps. , at a 1000 yards you would have 2145 fps. 2500+ ft/lbs., and 1.14 sec. T.O.F., Which is pushing the T.O.F. truthfully. That was not an ethical shot, but I am glad you were able to recover the animal.

This is why more states will move towards 350 legend. 7mm PRC looks awesome to me and I will likely use one asmy go-to big game caliber. No hate on the round and no hate on the rifle. Looks quite nice. But if we hunters can’t self-regulate what reasonable distances are on shooting at game, then gov’t (rightfully) should step in. Regardless of his capabilities at punching holes in paper or hitting steel, this shot never should have been taken. Worse this is an advertisement to sell a rifle so that other would purchase the rifle in hopes of replicating this “hunt.” A lot of animals will get hurt because of this movement. A shame, too, because the bullets, overall cartridge design, and rifle are all top notch.

I believe the 7mm is a great suppressor host, you can use a lighter profile barrel with 1/2 ×28 threads, step it up to 5/8×24 with an adapter. And avoid the the weight of a .660+ barrel and still have a very capable, quite rifle that doesn't weigh 10lbs. All the while having enough meat from the bottom of your threads to grooves to be safe. (Vs. 30 cal bore) 7mm wm with an ultra 9 has proven to be an awesome combo. I used to use Hornady bullets exclusively, but how they marketed the eldx bullet (in reality, its a slightly tougher version of the sst, the jacket separated from the core 100% on every animal i shot) and the fact they charge for load data info,made me switch to nosler. (Free load data, and better preforming bullets on game) a choice I haven't regretted. Lr shooting on game is dumb. I will now step off my soap box.

Here’s my deal with Hornady rounds out of my 7mm rem mag, they never drop animals… I’m always having to track blood for another 50-100yards. I decided to switch over to Federal Berger rounds, shot my first buck of the season last weekend (my largest Florida buck ever) , I swear to god it dropped him right in his track at 550 yards. In my opinion, hornady is so worked up with just creating new rounds for no reason and focusing so much on how far their rounds can go….

175gr ELD-X 7PRC, BC is 0.689 according to hornady, and if we assume NM average altitude of 5700 ft, according to hornady ballistic calculator, that bullet at 1023yd is traveling at 2031 fps carrying 1603 lb ft of energy, barely crossing the threshold of min requirement for elk. And if that shot was taken at or *below 4500* ft, the bullet would be travelling at or under 1965fps with 1501 ft-lb of energy, which makes the shot 100% unethical for elk. which is exactly what happened here. the least you can do is grant them a quick and painless death.

If you are not an experienced shooter and practice all the time then maybe it would be a disgrace. Same argument could be made in many hunting situations even at close range. The elk walked 70 yards and feel over dead. Right through the lungs. Not sure how he suffered? In hunting, animals get wounded at 100 yards with rifles all the time. All I can say is the 7 PRC is a damn good LR caliber and the bullet went right where I aimed. Back straps were delicious.

Long range shooting at animals isnt new, its just the changing of the times. I can remember that if you stalked within bow range that was the stellar way.. Now if you dont shoot a bull at 700 yds then you didnt do anything worth talking about.. I taught my sons to play the wind and get as close as you can before you shoot.. Most shots in my group are less than 200 yds, anything over that is just rare...

The problem with elk is that you can spend 6-7 days hunting them, and only get a few fleeting moments where they’re visible and presenting broadside. They like to keep their distance from people during season, and they’re very good at doing that. This is why long range cartridges in the Rocky Mountain region have been popular dating back to the 1950s. Modern optics, laser range finders, ballistic calculators, accurate bullets designed to expand at distance, and precision rifles allow trained and experienced hunters to extend their ethical killing reach. I agree about stalking as much as you can, and especially surveying/scouting your hunting areas at least a year in-advance to learn the patterns of the elk there, then stick to that area so you get to know it more. Most hunters can’t do that, especially out-of-State tags.

That was a good shot. For those who complain about the long shot, there is always the fear that something will go wrong, that people are just shooting at animals and not harvesting. I have not seen that. Every time I have seen someone shoot an elk or moose at whatever distance, they go and harvest. I certainly would, regardless of distance. I paid all that money, I am not going to waste meat. It should be noted that these guys did hunt with ethics in mind. They passed up a good shot that would have resulted in a very difficult harvest. I had another person say that we should hunt no farther than 400 yards. He said he had killed at over 1200 yards but never on an animal. Which implies that he was a military sniper. Never mind that most of the snipers I have studied at engagements at less than 600 yards, what is the disconnect in the ethics? It's okay to shoot a human at over 1200 yards but not a game animal? And these guys made the correct shot. If a bunch of incompetents are going to go out and shoot an elk that far, how about some cited cases? I have only seen a bunch of suppositions but not actual evidence. Like LR shooters when you talk about your rifle's precision. They want to see the target sheets or it didn't happen. Target sheets do not lie. Unless a guy is sitting there and poking holes with a pencil. Personally, I am comfortable with 300 yards and the max distance I have ranged where I hunt is 250 yards. But I do like the performance of the 7 PRC.
