However I've noticed the more I watch and learn about them I've become a bit desensitized to the "scare" factor. The last scene was amazingly done!! The way she held her breath in and hid under the bed was sooo realistic. It was what any normal person would do in that situation. Unlike some horror movies, this was very realistically accurate and altogether terrifying! It's funny how shorter films like this can give me the chills that even 3 hour long 'horror' movies cannot.
@christopherdunn4066
@christopherdunn4066 Жыл бұрын
I don't get why hiding under the bed though? The person knows you are in that small room. If the person breaks in and sees the window closed, then they know you did not escape and are still in the room. There are only a couple of places to hide in a room usually, under bed, and in a closet. If you hide under the bed, you are putting yourself at a disadvantage in being able to fight back, the other will have the upper hand. Best thing you could do is just be ready in a fighting stance when they break into the room, and give it your all against them.

I just remembered my dear grandmother (passed away 23 years ago), she used to tell me horrific stories about fellow villagers bumping into satan while walking at night or another one witnessing a fight among the dead, those rising from their tombs and those that emerge from the sea as they had lost their lives by drowning after shipwrecking.. Listening to such stories at night (in a village where electricity was still a luxury and the population was just a handful of people) and me being barely 6 years old.. No wander why i grew up developing a rather fd up personality.. The most chilling fact is that the night she died she visited me in my sleep, she gave me this very tight hug, i could feel her all her bones pressing hard against my body and her bony jaws sucking on my cheek.

I don't scare easily. It happens, but it's rare. This truly scared me. It was actually bad enough that for the last 2 minutes or so, I literally went to the other side of the room - close enough to my screen that I could still see what happened, but far enough away that I felt "safer." Bravo - they did a really good job on this one.

This short had so much character development and story that the 15 minute length almost felt like a full-length feature. There's quick backstory which sets up the coming horror so we know what to expect. Then, there's strong emotional characterization in the kids which transitions into adulthood and then shows relationships in pieces. And still we have the first scare on the road, the tension growing as the Skinwalker stalks the protagonist and how it doesn't immediately attack, which honestly is much scarier. The final reveal is just horrific. The movie ends right where it should. Definitely want to see more indigenous filmmakers and stories. This kicks ass! I really want Alter to make the credits section bigger. I want to know more about the cast but I couldn't read the credits because it was shrunken down too much at the end. The credits can easily take up the entire left side of the screen with the Alter logo somewhere else than dead-center. There is a crew list in the description of this video, which is good, but no actor list.

This was a really good scary short! The origin of the skin walker being Native American is true though, but I think throughout history every culture has had their version of it as well. Also I've read that being a recovering addict makes you more susceptible for these things to grab a hold on you, but who knows, I mean after all, its just a legend, right? Anyway...good job!

This is so crazy. I was just saying to a girl yesterday that I didn't want to go someplace because of a person and she remembered but forget the person's name and I said good then they shall remain nameless because of things that have happened around that and I went into how I pray against what I think is dark magic. I felt crazy talking but this is so well done. I also have to say I love that it's Native (or Indigenous...sorry I never know which to use because some people prefer Native and some prefer Indigenous so whatever the writers want here). I was just thinking the other day I have seen so much representation on Alter but nothing on Indigenous. I am not saying they never represented as there is lots I haven't seen on Alter but until now I didn't see anything....and White Ash! My boyfriend is half native and his band is the McMa or McMaw...band and he told me there tree of protection is the Ash tree. It's their spirit tree. I don't think it's the White Ash but the point about it being dipped in White Ash. And that turn around point of her not leaving the reservation to her waking up far away from it. This was fantastic. I felt like it was so deeply layered and that darkness that came behind her when she stepped outside was so foreboding and terrifying. At first I was only going to say Wow! Because I feel like I could talk about this film for days and still not shut up and I still won't have managed to say how awe -in-my-heart it got. I will say that the use of what I perceived as a face to ward away evil on the tree that was now just smoothed over got to me. I really don't know if that's what it was supposed to be. Maybe it was just a stump but I really felt the significance if not on a mental level than a spiritual one. Beautifully done. And that line about if you say their name you invite them in to prey on you...yeah, that!

While I am quite familiar with both the skin walker and Wendigo legends, I was nor aware of either being a part of Seminole lore and especially the skin walker as that is almost exclusively a southwest character. Some issues: The dialog at the beginning lacked name callingto establish characters. Not so much an issue except that the first guy (dad?) was dressed almost identical to the second guy (ex husband? ) and I wasn't sure who was who at first. Also, why did the demon come for Elaine? Because she's sad? None of the plot points (dad dying, drug addiction, mom neglect, abusive ex) attributed to the attack. We see the knife in the first act, then all the events afterwards were just filler until she grabs the knife in the 3rd act. She could have lived a happy life and still ended up in the same predicament. Music and lighting were good. Also, camera upclose helped with tension building

Oh and sorry I also wanted to say the colours on the steering wheel and it turning shot followed a bit later at the 5:16 timestamp with the eagle going by and the man with the look and then that line "don't worry dad's fine. We just need to adjust his meds again". Heartbreaking terrifying depths. and the strangeness of dad didn't make it to work today and he probably just got confused about the time again and he''ll make it home soon. You plunged us! Certified!

in these horror films that involve a person returning to their childhood homes to recover from a bad situation, why is there never another person around in that home?? I'm just wondering...
