We use to live in SWPA. There is a Paso Fino Farm near Lewisburg in central PA called Feather Hill Stables that raises, trains and competes in endurance riding, they can be found on Google or Facebook.

For those that can't take the concussion of a diagonally gaited horse, we see a lot of migration to the Paso Fino and the Peruvian Paso, and gaited breeds in general. It is a great option for those who don't wish to give up riding altogether.

I was a co-owner of a Paso Fino years ago. The first time that I ever rode him, I fell in love with him. Smoothest ride I have ever had. He would not get his feet wet and I enjoyed trail riding. Even when we came to a little water trickle down the side of mountain, it was a real fight with him. Because I couldn't ever break him from that, I gave up my part ownership and bought a Tennessee Walker, which is another smooth ride.

Paso finos have a tendency to hold their head like that. Those bits are usually required for showing, doesn’t mean they had to use them in this video but still. They were riding the horses a lot gentler than I’ve seen in other Paso Fino shows. Also the fino gait, the one that was showcased when riding, is highly collected.

That's their natural carriage. Some people use a tie down to keep their head a little lower. They're not a plow horse like the so-called quarter horses, which are more suited to pulling a middle buster than carrying a rider

Barbara Green the Pitter patter gait you speak of comes natural to the horse. They sweat and drool just like humans when exercising

I agree that some people push pasos too hard when riding them, but the gait is actually very natural to them. I have a paso i ride sometimes, and she quite naturally goes into the pitter patter gait. They can’t really “trot” the way non-gaited horses do. Or if they can, I’ve never seen my girl do it! LOL. Rather they have that fast gait thats faster than a trot but slower than a canter. It looks odd, but it really is their natural stride.

They are born with that gait. It's refined for show as with any other breed. Also as with other breeds, there are unscrupulous trainers and owners

It's not forced at all. I have photos and video of my 3 day old foal doing the natural Paso gait next to his dam in the pasture.

Paso Finos are hot bloods. They are not dull.

The paso fino is originally from Puerto Rico and the video said the conquistadors named it paso fino but that is not historically correct. It was not untill the 1860’s in Puerto Rico when the name paso fino was given.

La raza del Caballo colombiano es CCC. Dentro de esa raza existen diferentes modalidades de andar. Pero en la raza de paso fino, que es autóctona de Puerto Rico, no existen diferentes modalidades , solo tiene andares pero es el mismo paso fino. El ccc p4 es el que llaman paso fino colombiano pero su nombre original era paso castellano . Cuando los colombianos vieron el paso fino de PR tomaron elnombre y se lo dieron al ccc 4 y eso fue mas de 100 después que Puerto Rico tuviera ese nombre para su caballo. Esto esta todo documentado. Lo que pasa es que comenzaron a cruzarlos pensando que era buena idea pero lo que paso fue que el ccc p4 mejoró sus andares pero al cruzar ya no es ni ccc ni pf. Es una larga historia,pero el pf es de PR original.

Just because you see them move this way doesn't mean they don't move this way when not being ridden. It's natural.

They have different gaits, walk, piter patter, canter and gallop. They do all of them under saddle and field. It's genetic. They're asking for the specific gait under saddle to demonstrate it.

The Paso Fino gaits are natural. Like any gaited breed, after they're born, they'll start doing their gaits. This breed always do short strides. No arthritis issues. Not man made, as well.
