LOL, yes. The first group in Navy and White is Virginia State University. The second group in Green is Norfolk State Universtity. Both in the wonderful state of Virginia.
@318lovejones16 жыл бұрын
I know I have said it before, but dammit Imma say it again. VSU has the best tuba section hands down. I ain't never heard tubas go like that before in my life. They on some supernatural talent in that band. It's scary the way they play.
@sousaphoneMonster12 жыл бұрын
Lol my band director was a tuba player at Norfolk. I love yell HORSEPOWER!!! When he walks in the band room at practice. And I love rubbin this video in his face wen he be playin around sayin that I suck cuz I like horsepower. Our band director is cool as heck tho.

The first group is Virginia State University from Petersburg, VA. The second group is Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA. This event is the Labor Day Classic Battle of the bands held each year in the Gym of Norfolk State University the Friday night prior to the football game.

i've always liked VSU's tubas they got a style that sets them apart no disrespect to NSU, i like y'all tubas too...and of course your vicious trumpets!

That solo at 1:31 was raw boi
@Gentleman191115 жыл бұрын
The event is open to the public. Tickets run about 10 dollars or so. It is held every year the Friday before Labor Day down at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, VA.

that is so cold becuase they didn't have to scream like baritones just to prove they were cold...so much range at once. Petle tones kill everytime. that solo was too nasty!!!
@Tigerwarhawk16 жыл бұрын
Yeah some of the tones should have been rounder in quality--some edgy moments. But with that said, I was entertained and honestly impressed. That's the best tuba fanfare I've heard in YEARS, and I've been affiliated with college bands for 13 years now. Looking forward to hearing this band.

shaw got some raw tuba fanfares too
@Gentleman191116 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the section pulled a all nighter the night prior to this. Practiced until about 6AM because they shortened and changed the fanfare a few times until they had a smooth feel to it. Remix after remix.

LOL that damn intro is funny as hell.

Sorry, there is no written out music for this. It is taught from section leaders to members. You are welcome to visit out High School day the last week in April and talk with the members more about it. Thanks.

dunno if NSU was outta their comforst zone or what but i was a bit dissapointed after that strong beginning they had. Once again props to VSU and thier crazy abilities, and i know they must have praticed thier butts off for that part at 2:37-2:42 to get that right on cue. gonna have to find a way to see them in action, tho im stuck in florida so itll be a while. keep it crankin HORSEPOWER
@TheWwwaaazzzuuuppp13 жыл бұрын
@Gentleman1911 could you help me out how do you do tht thing at 1:30 i need to know how so i can play it in a song
@Gentleman191116 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the needs of the band. Since most play more than one instrument, if we need them on Baritone, Trombone, horn or trumpet then sometimes we have to move people. We don't always keep the strongest 10 either. One year we had 22 tuba players but the director was not going to let us keep everyone. The 10 are strong with the size band we have. If we get more trumpets then you could possibly see our numbers increase but right now we are just low brass heavy.

It was nice to hear Brian McKnight's Prelude Bodacious. As far as who is better...I'll leave that up to yall to decide. Both sections entertain me though.

VSU jammin as usual man...NSU, that octave change in Mission Impossible sounded like pure shit...im sorry but it really did. You guys have battled VSU before, you guys knew what you were up against.
@Gentleman191116 жыл бұрын
This was not the first year of these two sections battling. They knew they were coming into a battle. No excuse. They are a good section and they just did not prepare like they should have.

@Gentleman1911 he played tuba for tha 2007 year then he was a DM. He's the asst director at JCSU. This is Kai Parris. And no he wasn't crankin and he still can't. We settled that at practice one day lol. He even admitted I blew on him in front of the WHOLE band.
@Ceobeatmaker17 жыл бұрын
....vsu good job but tone quality always comes first! .... i think you should direct that comment to the tuba players who cracked notes and werent together on their fanfare...

I'm sorry but NSU took got phucked with no vaseline for the second time in a row. Horsepower is on a totally different level. What was sad was Bodacious tried to steal the same steps as Horsepower from last year...hands down no competition Horsepower won this battle. VSU and Hampton tubas hold it down!

@Gentleman191116 жыл бұрын
Man, color ain't got nothing to do with it. We run the squad like everyone is a tuba player. Not gender, everyone does the same thing, all or nothing. We have one white guy on the squad now and will probably have another one in 08. Everyone carries their own weight.

Can anyone tell me how band music became such a part of black colleges
@Ceobeatmaker15 жыл бұрын
hey X thanks for the love, but regardless of if they did well in your eyes or not, NSU is still a reputable music program and band so to just outright toss an F bomb on them like that to me shows your lack of respect of what their band does as a whole and individually. you can say they sucked on that day, you can say they sounded bad, but I advise that F bombs be left out the equation less you probably get cranked on by them yourself.
