Horseshoe Meadow to Rocky Basin Lakes

Күн бұрынThree day camping hike from Horseshoe Meadow near Lone Pine California to Rocky Basin Lakes and back. Our original plan to hike a longer route was changed due to fatigue and AMS. Good choices were made and it was a great learning experience for us. Ready to go back soon. Many thanks to the young ranger at the visitor center that helped us procure last minute passes as everything is on line now much to our surprise.

I went up for the first time this June. Beautiful place. My hat is off to you guys. I'm 68 but in pretty good shape. I went up Cottonwood Pass to Chicken Springs Lake and back to the trailhead on a day hike. My GPS logged almost 10 miles round trip. I was done when I got back. My goal is to get down to Big Whitney Meadow for a night and at least have the strength to get back the next day. I was wondering if you guys acclimated at the trailhead before your hike? I didn't which I probably should have.

Please forgive the late reply. Yep! Spent the night in the parking lot. It helps. Most do it. I'll be 70 in Dec and heat and altitude get me easily. Go easy but go for it!

I am curious for a relatively skinny little guy why John packed so much stuff on a 3 day hike.
