My first LO was induced, my second was natural labor and I have to say both where exactly the same level of pain and intensity. I didn’t have an epidural with either, not being I didn’t want one but because I progressed too quickly to get one. So don’t be scared about induction being more painful! Both were very fast, about 3 hour labour’s from very first contraction to baby being born.

Yeah I’m worried about the pain. I assumed it would be incredibly rapid contractions but I do hope I can get an epidural.

Thank you for sharing ur own experience.... I'm 38 weeks now n my Dr asked me for induction but I'm really scared of the total experience of what will gonna happen if I'm not naturally induced... This is my first ever pregnancy experience so don't have much knowledge about the pains n the whole journey of motherhood... Plz pray for me.....

I had 3 home births and then had to be induced with my last. For me the pain of pitocin contractions were way worse. They were so rapid (one minute apart or less, lasting a minute and a half) compared to my natural labors (with my last two natural labors the contractions were never less than two minutes apart), and they more intense. But I also gave birth within 45 minutes of starting pitocin. At one point my doctor checked me and said I was dilated to an 8 and we had a little longer to wait, and then two contractions later I was ready to push. So it was all happening very fast which I think is part of why it was so painful.

I’m really surprised that I’m not mourning the “ideal” birth that I wanted for labor/birth. I go to get induced in 14 hours, and I think it’s just been so much better for my mental health to know that no matter what, I have an end in sight!

Do you think being induced creates a shorter labor?

@@xHeartHeartbreakx No, an induction does not create a shorter labor. All an induction does is manipulate the cervix and the uterus to create contractions and cervical changes. It cannot cause a labor to be shorter. If you want a shorter labor, drink lots of water to stay well hydrated, eat healthy meals, walk and exercise, keep your legs wide when sitting, standing and walking (climb stairs and curb walking), see a prenatal chiropractor to keep spine and pelvis in alignment, and be active in birth (move and change positions).

My water had broken but I didn’t go into labour. They induced me. I was 4 cm dialated at 39 weeks. The contractions were horrible. I was having 6 contractions every 10 minutes. Baby was born 8 hours later.

Sarah, thanks so much for the amazing videos! They are so incredibly informative and usually very factual and statistic based. At the same time you are able to provide such a positive and supportive message to women. What a great combination of nurse and doula. I find myself very intrigued by doula practices and in the same aspect I want to be safe and truly understand medical practices and options for my pregnancy as well. I can’t thank you enough ☺️

I went in for an ultrasound at 38 weeks and was induced later on that night. My baby was not growing anymore. I did not know what to expect at all. This video was still helpful on understanding it all lol. Know I know for next time!

I was 40+1 with my first when I was induced (elective, my husband traveled for work and I wanted to be sure he was there). I didnt even know about the bishop score and am now curious what I was at. When I was admitted, I was only 1cm dilated. I was hooked up to pitocin at 7:30am and had my daughter at 12:55pm, with no epidural and was able to move around the whole time. Luck was totally on my side, I was definitely prepared for a 72hour labor. Now, I'm due Jan 16 and am hoping to go naturally this time. But, I'm still bulking up on all the info and binging your videos, just to feel more prepared.

Thank you for this video Sarah! I’m 41w 3d and my doctor has suggested induction. Im very surprised how this pregnancy has turned out! This is my 3rd pregnancy - the 1st came on time, 2nd was 12 days early. Never thought I’d be in this position to have to consider medical induction. Your videos have really equipped me with asking the right questions to my provider as I navigate through the when, how, what ifs. Btw, i also followed a lot of your videos for my previous birth. This came at the perfect time, thank you Sarah! I am currently 37 weeks pregnant and my doctor has discussed with me the possibility of induction at 39 weeks due to the size of my baby. I will most definitely be asking these questions because natural labor is so important to me. But I won’t forget to flex and flow if any other issues arise 😉

I would just add that size estimates in utero are just an estimates and are often inaccurate.

Cece Casiano often...they were off by over 3 pounds every Time!!!!! My kids were all taller and heavier than they thought, and in spite of not being heavy myself, I had gestational diabetes, which they knew, and said they were taking into consideration. My next door neighbor had a 7 pound, 18” long girl that they told her was a 10lb, 20" boy 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

@@morganfalkdesigns so your ultrasounds estimated them to be smaller than they actually were? Was your GD well controlled with diet only? Or were you on meds/insulin? Were you induced? If so, when? Sorry for all the questions: I also am not overweight but have GD that is really well-controlled with just diet alone.

Yes look for her video about the "arrive study" if you haven't already. I found it super informative and I liked the perspective of now narrowed the sample was and defining exactly which pregnancies were chosen for the study.

Very informative! Thanks! I knew nothing about a bishop score! I have my next cervical exam on Wednesday. I’m currently 40 +2 and I will definitely be asking about my chances of a vaginal birth according to this “bishop score”. Last Tuesday I had my first exam and I wasn’t even dilated, at all! She said this is normal because it’s my first pregnancy but it wrecked my nerves a bit because i just want things to progress properly.

I live in a largely populated city. One of our hospitals shut down its L&D maternity ward recently, during this pandemic! We’re still having large numbers of people getting infected with Covid-19. In order to prevent overwhelming the county hospital with an overwhelming number of women in labor at one time, local clinics are currently scheduling induction of labor for women at 39 weeks.

I was induced with my first! No epidural and I was only 18 😱 now I’m 27 and will be welcoming our 2nd living child in March! My induction only took 11 hours last time and I’m really hoping to have another good experience! It’s been a while though and I don’t think I’m as tough as I was back then! 😂

I'm being induced Dec 17th. lol Perfect timing for this video. I've watched most of your others, which are awesome! Can't wait for part 2...literally. My doctors have brought up induction 3 seperate times due to the severity of SPD/pelvic pain (or maybe bc baby's due date is Christmas)...I've been taken out of work for 2 months now and doing pelvic physical therapy. 3cm-50% effaced 2 days ago... will be 39 weeks on Monday.

My Dr just told me I needed to be induced at 39 weeks. I do have GD but diet controlled and baby's growth scan was perfect. My first 2 I went on my own. Thanks for this video bc Im freaking out!

Why would your doctor say that you "need" to be induced at 39 weeks if your GD is well-controlled with diet and your scans are fine? I'm worried about this happening to me too. I'm just worried they'll want to interfere even if everything is going fine just because of a GD diagnosis. 😣

They are inducing me at 39 weeks on the dot. No medical indications. They just think my baby is going to be too big to fit but watching you has taught me to not just listen to them. They wanted me to get a csection but I asked for an induction because I don't think I need a csection.

Hahaha MEEEE! I am 3day induction. With my first i made it to 42wks with no signs of labor, so i was induced. With my second, my blood pressure went up, and was sent to the hospital. It came back down quickly and all was good, but baby wasn’t sounding great on the monitor so i was induced at 39wks 6days, my baby was born on her due date. I am pregnant again and still hoping i will get to experience going into labor on my own

I know this video is old. I’m 38+4 with my third baby and I’ve been watching your videos since my first pregnancy. But I’m here because I’m scheduled for induction in 6 days! Went into labor naturally with my first two, had vaginal births, no epidural. That’s what I hoped for this time but I found out I’m GBS positive and considering my labors have been 7 hours and 5 hours total, I talked to my doctor about my concerns that I won’t have time for the two doses of antibiotics. My best friend’s baby had sepsis so I really want the peace of mind of having antibiotics. This way they can give me the two doses before they start the induction process. If I go into labor naturally before then, we hope for the best!

I have had 2 inductions and praying for spontaneous labor this aug. The cervadil gives me crazy contractions that stress baby and oh my word it burns!!!!!!!!! I really want to experience birth without being induced I'm going to push for a couple extra days this time as long as baby is happy.

I’m going to the doctors today to get an induction date cuz I’m 40 weeks and both my legs turn dark purple and my hands and arms do the same thing and go numb but I’m completely healthy I just can’t do anything anymore without extreme swelling and this is my first pregnancy

Ann-Sophie Hamilton the induction itself was smooth and I was only in labour for 12 hours! My baby was very premature tho so there were lots of complications but we’re good now ❤️

As much as I’d love to labor naturally, i don’t feel it’s safe for me or baby with the distance from the hospital (not just the one my OB delivers at, we’re an hour from any hospital that delivers) I think the benefits outweigh the risks that could happen for me. Thank you for the education so we can decide what’s best for us and not shaming one or the other

I just found out today I'm getting induced tomorrow, it was a total surprise, and I'm super nervous about it, so I came here to prepare mentally. 😬 Nervous, but can't wait to meet my baby. 😍

@@SithMami aww, thanks for asking. ❤️ Well, the induction didn't really go anywhere. 😅 So after 2 days of inducing, I ended up in the operating room and getting a c-section, because I just wasn't dilating at all. But thanks to these videos and the wonderful care team I had, I was so calm going in to it, everything went so well and my beautiful baby girl is now 7 months old and perfectly healthy. ❤️

currently 33 weeks but my baby is the size of a 37 week baby. they want me to have her almost 2 weeks early. so totally nervous but I love your videos for being able to get a rough feel for everything

I was induced with my first daughter at 39 weeks and 5 days , was a pretty good experience. My water bag was leaking for a while and I had no clue come to find out she had no fluid but I wasn't going into labor so I needed help .

I have 4 days till I hit my due date and I’m absolutely done! So I have chosen to be induced on Monday when I hit 40 Weeks, and I’m nervous as hell but I’m ready.😅

Less than 8 hours with my induction as FTM. I also use raspberry leaf tea supplements which helped. Hoping for the best with this soon to be second birth.

I was hoping for the most natural birth possible. I was induced with my first at 40 weeks 3 days. It was intense but awesome because my labor was 10 hrs. Yes, I did walk and get on a ball. I ended up with an epidural and I could get some sleep. It was a great experience and I wouldn’t have changed anything.

My daughter was about 2 weeks overdue and my child was too big and unfortunately my child had gotten stuck and my current pregnancy is very hard on me and he is a bit bigger as well.

I had an emergency induction with my first and was only in labor for 4&1/2 hours. My second actually took longer. 11 hours and 15 minutes. Both was 4cm and 90% effaced.

You can also try the midwifes brew it’s a natural drink to induce I did it with my second and it worked :) so thankful that I didn’t have to go get induced in the hospital.

With my third kid, I was induced at a week after due date. It was 3 hours start to finish. No tears, manageable hemorrhoids. They broke my water off the bat, however, I was 5 cm without going into labor.

My doctor told me 16-24 hours for my first! I was 2cm dilated and 80% effaced and was in labor for 6 hours! I have to be induced at 38 weeks because I am on daily blood thinning injections! My second I was 5cm and 80% effaced and was in labor for 2 hours! Scared how fast this baby will come!

I have metal rods in my back from scoliosis in the past, so I'm not allowed epidural as they go all the way to my lower back. I'm running overdue now and afraid I may need induction and do it all "raw". What could you recommend, going ahead with induction if it comes to it, or better to have c-section? 🤔

For my first baby I checked in at 2cm dilated & 70% effaced while 38 ½ weeks. Was given a cervix softener which made me 3cm dilated & 100% then 2 hours later my water broke naturally. Checked in at 5pm & had my daughter in my arms at 9am :) even though I was induced bc of hypertension I was already on my way to having my daughter

I was induced a week late due to leaking water. My cervix had been “unfavorable” for WEEKS and wasn’t changing. I was 2cm when I came to the hospital. The nurses told me to expect about 12 hours because at 24 hours I’d be looking at a csection to avoid infection. He was born 8.5 hours later. Everyone was shocked, my doctor even kept mentioning based off being a first time mom how surprised how quick and how well I did.

Most doctors are now automatically inducing at 41 weeks universally, which has significantly lowered the chance of dangerous newborn problems like meconium aspiration syndrome etc. Not sure where that 41 + 3 week statistic came from, most women deliver within 2 weeks before and after their due date. The newer evidence from controlled trials out of Europe reports there is also not a higher chance of c/s statistically with induction after 39 weeks. FYI :)

I’m hoping for my next baby I don’t need to be induced because the cervidil was the most painful thing I’ve ever experienced! When she went to take it out it felt like glass and fire! Hurt worse than labour! But I was able to go right to oxytocin which meant te epidural which was amazing!!

I’m scheduled for an induction on September 7th but my due date is September 14. I don’t understand why my FNP wants to induce me since I have a healthy pregnancy, no risks and no discomfort at all. She states that the reason is that there’s research that shows that 39 weeks it’s ideal to give birth and that it gives me a better chance at avoiding a c-section.

My first two labors...water broke...two hours later 2-10cm in 20 minutes. Third labor, kind of unproductive contractions, came in at 3cm, broke water, 1 cm /hour...baby was face sideways...

Baby 1, I had a small placenta and baby had stopped growing at 37+5 . I got the i the internal exam Friday morning and I was 4 cm. My doctor said get out and go walking if u want this baby out or Im inducing on Monday, baby was out by Saturday morning :) lets see how number 2 gaoea Im currently 36 weeks.
